  1. yeah, well I do want to hear what griff and his pals have to say. why, do some want to shut others up? it's a forum for goodness sakes. one exchanges thoughts and ideas, not stifle them. if you don't want to read it, just press page down again.
  2. Good suggestion. I may grab that DVD at lunch today! Thanks.
  3. IMO the KG line are sweet sounding speakers. Also, you can pick them up on ebay for very little money. I got a pair of oiled oak KG1.5 for only $46 !! Hard to beat that.
  4. To satisfy your curiousity, I'd try it if you could do some kinda of trial run. I'm curious myself.
  5. I don't know if you can go wrong on this one. First, both are still around. Says somethin' about how they were made. My dad had a Marantz ("had" because my little brother pawned it while I was away from home). Anyway always thought the Marantz sounded great and was cool lookin'. Seems like it's a what sounds better to your ears question.
  6. jump from 2.0 (or 2.1) to 5.1 is "muy gigante" IMO. I've got one room with each. I much prefer movie and music in the 5.1 room.
  7. Good eye, I didn't catch that difference. Anyone else know if that difference is meaningful?
  8. Probably there is a model number on the back of the speaker.
  9. Anyone know what the difference is between a KG 2.2 and a KG 2.5? I don't see any differentiation when looking at the Klipsch specification.
  10. The issues against monster due not lie solely on their litigious nature. Other business practices warrant complaint by a reasonable person. I'm a little tired of every time that I walk into an electronics store that I have too hear somebody remind me that after I must be sure an supplement my purchase with some really great wire. I'm not naive enough to think that he's really serious. He's been coached to say that because he knows he'll make double or triple the profit margin on that part of the sale. These salesman could just keep that kinda of nonsense where the sun doesn't shine.
  11. I see that you've modified Monster's "brand" name. Nice touch.
  12. hey, I think a new pair of cornwalls showed up on ebay. I believe they are of the vertical version. Good luck, I know several of ya'll are lookin' for them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5741755508&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
  13. This probably needs to be a separate thread, but ya'll jump right into these discussions about crossover upgrades and the "how to" angle, but can somebody kindly explain why one would want to perform a crossover upgrade. My simplistic mind wants to buy the best speaker I can find and leave it alone. Since this is not my trade and I've never embarked on a project like this before, I'd be terribly afraid that I get the electronic upgrade correct which may give me a slight improvement, but I'd not re-assemble the speaker box, or insulating material just rate and get a considerably worse sounding speaker. Nevertheless, I'd love to know what you guys are trying to accomplish with these upgrades. BTW, I'm not an electrical engineer, so keep it simple.
  14. In austin, there are 3 or 4 Best Buys and they are packed with humans and buyers. 2 Conns and the parking lot is EMPTY. 2 Ultimates, a few folks, nothing like BB. 3 or 4 circuit city with moderate traffic. BB seems to rule. Large stores with lots of buyers and employees. One Home Theater with moderate traffic. Sadly, there is no specialty stores with high end equipment. Use to be a great one, Hi Fidelity. Long time austin store that I bought my Forte IIs and Nakamichi equipment at in '89. There are a few who have little equipment and specialize in building an entire theater, but no Klipsch equipment. Traffic count in these store really counts. Those are the boys who will be here for the long term. Really means the same thing as the wall street analysis above.
  15. damn. that happened fast. austinite here who had some interest. Dallas isn't that far. Congrats on the fast sale.
  16. Similar symptoms can be from exposure to Radon also. Radon is an indoor air pollutant that can accumulate in old houses. There are relatively expensive test kits for radon out there also. Try to eliminate the CO issue first. If not, let me know if you need help getting a radon test kit.
  17. I prefer to buy the CD because I get the artwork, the lyrics and an image on the CD. Also, every couple years or so I wind up buying a new computer. I dread the day that I'm trying to move all the music that my wife has downloaded onto the computer that I'm typing on now. I've tried to move my tax preparation files from an old computer and I almost needed to be committed to an asylum trying to complish moving those files.
  18. There is about 4 forum members looking for an academy center. good luck, be deligent about finding one on ebay and be aggressive. If you find one with a BIN offer, scope it up without hesitation. I got lucky and bought one about 4 weeks ago.
  19. Here's the other thing. i've lived in suburbia since my beginnings. There simply are not very many other people around with the kind of equipment (big compressor, welders, etc.) that will turn on their equipment and have the ability to create a power surge. If I lived in say midtown manhattan, and somebody were building a skyscraper down the street, or somebody were digging a giant utility down the street or more importantly obtaining power from the same substation. OK, maybe I need a power conditioner, but I live in suburbia. Nobody will create a power surge because their air conditioner kicks on. Pretty well understood that the biggest power draw in anyone's home is their air conditioner. Now, my logic becomes nonsense when I recognize that the uncontrollable source of stray power is a lightning strike, but power and cable where I live is buried. I've never heard of a lightning strike of buried wires. Anybody want to call this b******t? I'd actually like to hear why.
  20. Great lookin' speakers. Ya'll are making me want to buy more, older speakers.
  21. I got to say I love my HK/Klipsch combo also
  22. Hey, check out the thread for a pair of Chorus's in Orlando for $175. Those would pair up tremendously as surrounds if you have the room for them.
