  1. Oh oh... anyone near Mt Shasta that can go check to see if Fini's stuck up on the roof? No, didn't get stuck up there, but this old world started getting me down, and I found a paradise that's trouble-proof. Hey, it was only a 9/12 pitch! But the dormer (which I was siding) had an 11/12 pitch. Good ol' Grandpa messing with me... Having a really cold ale, and it tastes good!
  2. Beer...again! I'm getting things together for a trip to Mt. Shasta tomorrow. I've got to climb up on the roof and re-side a couple dormers. I'm hoping 1.) It's not too hot, and 2.) My pain meds work. I'm not worried about falling off the roof, just going up and down the extension ladder, and dealing with the 12/12 pitch. I am going to take as many breaks as I need. The good ol' sciatica has been flaring up lately.
  3. Luxury! You had it easy. We were so poor, I had to scratch the shape of a skateboard in the dirt and pretend I was riding all over town. Duuude! You were riding the freaking Earth!
  4. When I was a kid, we made our own skateboards out of a stick and some old Conestoga wagon parts. Whittled my first turntable out of an old redwood burl, I did.
  5. I know the feeling. BTW, when are you coming out west, Uncle John??! []
  6. Picked up a couple of nice original jazz lps today. Charles Mingus's Pithecanthropus Erectus, and The Charles Lloyd Quartet's Love-in. Both in VG++/NM condition. Unfortunately, no turntable set up at the moment!
  7. I guess this thread is the propper place to report my Shih Tzu Ted really likes corn. First, he went crazy over popcorn (one kernel at a time, of course). He has since move on to corn on the cob, carefully biting off the kernels. I think he's sort of a combination of typewriter and round and round type of corn eater.
  8. Some of the prettiest birch Cornwalls I've seen. Beautiful amber glow. Go get 'em back. []
  9. Only a pair of Heresys? Man, you got off cheap! Congratulations on the upcoming festivities!! 'Bout the same here. Anyone know anything about French Art Nouveau glass? [] I picked up 4 sconces today (at the dump!!) that are marked Muller Freres Luneville, and have been spending a little time on the internet researching. They've got nude ladies on 'em, always a plus. Sierra Nevada ale here.
  10. duder, you are awesome! Thank you so much. I went by the local hobby shop today and bought some 5000 cst differential fluid. The more to experiment with, the better. PM on its way. I'd like to pay for postage, at least!
  11. Ugh, tile setting is tough! I'm a carpenter with knee/back issues. I wore myself out, basically. Good for you! You must be in great shape!!
  12. Do they have openings where you work? ;^) "I'll have what he's having..."
  13. Bruce, mostly I'm trying to figure out the viscosity to use. The silicone oil at the hobby shop comes in a whole range of weights.
  14. I finally got around to trying a few oils. It is a royal PIA to put this back together, due to the super-small screws and my enormous mitts. The 20W turbine oil was too thin. The arm still dropped too fast. Next I tried the 300,000 cst silicone oil I had on hand WAAAY too thick. Might work with 2-pound tracking force. I have various motor oils here I could try. A hobby shop in town (catering to RC cars and planes) has various silicone lubes. I might try them. Anyone have any other suggestions? In this application, would 20W-50 motor oil act more like 20-weight, or 50 weight?
  15. Well I didn't have many pic's to go on but the G-28 is on the slim side so I thought they would go with the new and improved smaller Amy. Also I didn't want to press my luck, she is very tight with the pic's of herself, but she does sneak on in hear and there. Good call. That's why they (should) pay you the big bucks.
  16. dtel, have you done the required calculations to be sure the G-28s are a good fit for Amy?
  17. I think you and I should apply as a team. my flying saucer is rounding Uranus, so I should be there in time to include my name on that application, .. well that is assuming I can clear your asteroid field, While you're at it, mind wiping out a couple of Klingons?
  18. We could have guys send in pictures of their wives and girlfriends, and we'd make recommendations on what speakers to use, based on their preferences for top end or bottom end extension, and if they're into extreme slopes. Very scientific.
  19. The problem is you may think you've set it up right for them, but if there's a failure, the dogs are not going to be able to tell you when you're tooling around air-conditioned Target or Walmart. I'd suggest just dealing with the dogs up in the cab, or leaving them home.
