  1. I love how you've disguised that rear Klipschorn to look like a corner hutch! Ingeneous! And if you ever have any horn-haters over, and they complain about "ringing", you just tell 'em it's the phone! Good job, t-man! fini
  2. I'm with Doug. Well, not physically. I'm in CA, he's in AZ, which are touching, but I want to say right now, I've never touched Doug with anything other than my words, and he me with his. As a Dad m'self, I commend you on your research skills that led you this forum. The most helpful people on the web are right here. You will get more bang for the buck used, and there are many posters that will offer opinions on specific speakers you may find, say, on eBay. Does your Dad like to mess around with things like audio, or is he more of a "set it and forget it" kind of guy? Part of the fun of vintage speakers is finding out about their history, and talking (here) with others who have them (not that the current line-up doesn't get a lot of air time on the boards). Good luck, and keep us informed! fini
  3. Ikea has some pretty cool stuff. Don't know if there's one near you, though. fini This message has been edited by fini on 02-07-2002 at 10:36 AM
  4. Ed- I took a look at that last photo before finishing your post. I thought it was you taking that last step (I guess testing your heart, docs standing by...)! I agree with your conclusion that an exact match center is important. In my HT front array (KSP-400, KSP-C6), the center uses the same components as the fronts (minus the built-in 15" subs!) and sounds awesome. It is probably Klipsch's least appreciated (or least discussed, here) speaker series. Nice work, Ed! fini

  6. If I may interject: Who says we can have only one "annoying pest" around here? (Nominating myself) fini
  7. "Klipsch- Do they make you horny, baby...do they?" "Got Klipsch?" fini
  8. I believe it's something that happens to your speaker cabinets when you use canned worms for speaker wires. fini
  9. Well, I just can't stay out of the thrift shops and flea markets, looking for that hidden gem, Grandpa's old fashioned Hi-Fi, discards of "upgrades" (that may, in fact be downgrades). The only "tube gear" I find (which is rare) is encased in big ol' consoles. Anything salvageable in these beasts? My latest thrift shop purchase was a Nakamichi SR-3A receiver. It had a 90 day warranty, so for $40, I figured, "What the hay." Here's a shot of one (thanks again, Mike): http://www.oaktreeent.com/web_photos/hi-fi/NakSR-3A_collage.jpg I've got it hooked up to the Cornwalls with some generic 12 ga. monster wire, and it sounds great! I've been playing a lot of lp's on my quite modest JVC QL-A2 turntable. Does anyone here have any experience with this Nak receiver? fini
  10. But wouldn't it hurt the worms to use them as speaker wires? fini
  11. Would that be a K-tel release on vinyl or on CD? fini
  12. Aw, we wouldn't be kiddin' with ya if we didn't like ya, ya big oil-rig nut! fini
  13. Are we talking about the guy on first, or BenG? fini
  14. And the blood is on who's hands?... fini
  15. You might try posting this querry in the 2 channel forum. Lots of folks into tubes there. Good luck. fini p.s. a photo might help.
  16. Surely he'll do himself if it goes to two pages. fini
  17. mdeneen, The Sound Well just sold, via eBay, a pair of Cornwalls. Clipped and Shorn went down to check them out durring the auction, but missed out on getting them (as you know, he now has a pair he's quite fond of). Don't know if they have much older, exotic stuff. Do you have any recomendations here in Sonoma County? fini
  18. jazman- Do you have any reccomendations for shops here in the Bay Area inwhich to see and experience vintage and new tube gear? I'll bet Clipped and Shorn would love to go on a short road trip checking out some cool gear. This request should probably have it's own thread...later today. fini
  19. "Teletubbies IX: What's Under That Rock?" DD5.1, DTS-EX, RSVP.
  20. Just curious...I didn't care for it AT ALL. fini
  21. Although, it's better to call 911 and find out it was only gas pains, than to think it only gas, then to pass yourself. Keep up the good work and watchful eye, Indy! fini, old fart
  22. May I be the first (here) to say "WECOME BACK, O HORNED ONE!" You've been missed! How's Mom? Hope all's well! fini
