  1. thoughts and prayers for your Mother, you and the family... Bill
  2. I understand...I only want 2 channel for this but I didn't understand about the other amplifiers active with Bi-Amping and Bi-Wiring...thanks! Bill
  3. Perhaps I notice this more because of the smaller RB-5 speakers but at the cost of a second set of speaker wires connected to a receiver I already own I find this experiment worth it... As the RB-5s are the only speakers I possess that allow this, I'm good with that and I don't feel the need to find a way to do this to my kg2s, Heresys, Quartets or Chorus lls but I really appreciate all the information you have shared with me and hopefully the knowledge I'll maintain from it... Thanks guys! Bill
  4. going from regular set up to the Dual Amp drive netted me a slight increase in volume... going from regular set up to the Bi-Wire AND Bi-Amp netted me a slight increase in volume AND a slight increase in detail with perhaps a larger soundstage... Bill
  5. this may help some who try this with their multichannel receivers...with thanks to dbbabba
  6. no worries at all and as always, thanks for the help...I have an XR57 on its way to me to try...I missed out on the description that the Center Surrounds section are inoperative and I am hoping this just need an adjustment I can make on the receiver itself with one of my remotes (the XR57 on its way to me has no remote either) but I only want to use it for 2 channel anyway...just hoping this won't affect Bi-Amping and Dual Amping... Bill
  7. great news and hat's off to Roy and everyone involved in bringing this back in upgraded form. Bill
  8. Quiet_Hollow when trying the Bi-Wire/Bi-Amp settings, do I still only have the left and right speakers set up for 2 channel stereo listening or do I have the Center and Surrounds as well as Sub-Woofer settings activated on the Multi-Control and Input Selector??? I checked this and of course was surprised to see all of this activated...I naturally deactivated everything while continuing to listen... Bill
  9. Hello Larry...sadly no...I sold them last year to a Forum member...I never had the proper room to really hear them sing and it was time to let someone who did enjoy them. Hope things are well with you and yours. Bill
  10. after messing with the receiver for most of the day I am giving up on it...everything lights up, powers on, AM and FM section is getting signals but the receiver will no give me any sound...no hmm, hiss, static...no noise at all. Tried AM/FM and CD...nothing...the receiver has not been used in about 10 years and some interwebz reading leads me to believe the caps are past it...These may be getting dropped off at the nearby Goodwill shop...Thanks,Bill
  11. Listening to some Diana Krall...Girl in the Other Room (a very nice recording) and I think Quiet Hollow jjptkd have described it pretty well spot on...the RB-5s are really singing. Thanks guys Bill
  12. well, since starting my last thread on gifting updated/upgraded kg2s or RB-5s to a friend, I decided that I had never tried the RB-5s in Bi-Wire or Bi-Amp mode using on of my digital Panasonic SA-XR receivers (SA-XR70 to be exact) so why not now while I have some stuff pulled out and taken apart? listening to the same music I had been "testing" the kg2s and RB-5s before on, Oink Floyd/The Division Bell I'm currently listening in both Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp... A quick primer for those who don't have speakers or a receiver capable of this I'll share and feel free to respond if I did something wrong as this is my first try... On the Panasonic SA-XR70 I need have speaker wire connected to both A and B panels (what would normally be for 2 sets (4) of speakers... Next connect to both sets of terminals on the rear of the RB-5s and remembering to remove the gold colored jumpers between the terminals... Push both A and B on the Panasonic front to initiate Bi-Wire...check to see if that's lit on the receiver face... Check to see that Bi-Amp is lit... The Panasonic SA-XR70 is 100wpc and should be using more than 1 amp each for the high frequency and low frequency of each speaker... thus far, it sounds like it could be a bit louder than it was before initiating Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp but I don't notice much of a change...I'll keep listening Please feel free to share or relate any flaws in my set up or your own experiences and thoughts. Bill
  13. well it appears I completely misunderstood the situation...the friend had some equipment from a move and wanted to know if I knew what to do with it...a home theater with Bose Acoustimass stuff...and an old JVC surround sound receiver Thanks for the feedback everyone Bill
  14. I know this is tough...the kg2s were my first speaker and were about half the retail price of the RB-5s but side by side with the volume adjusted I can't make up my mind... Perhaps the difficulty is that the kg2s sound more Heritage line than the RB-5s???...thanks for the response Bill
  15. I have a pair of nice RB-5s and a pair of updated/upgraded kg2s...both in the same room hooked up to the same equipment...my quandary???...which set to keep.I have a friend who is looking for a set of speakers and I am currently speaker heavy...I have other Klipsch speakers and currently have upgraded/updated Klipsch Chorus ll, Quartets and Heresys...all of these have Bob and Michael Crites Titanium tweeter modifications (except the Heresys but they have the Crites Tweeters in them) and have updated crossovers...The RB-5s are stock and sound very good, especially for their size...The kg2s are very nice, with Crites titanium tweeter mods and new Crites crossovers in them...money wise, I have much more in the kg2s (my first set of Klipsch from 1989) but in listening to them both, they both sound great...the RB-5s being more efficient do not need as much volume but both speakers are very detailed...so...the quandary...which to keep and which to part with???...any help, advice you'd care to share would be appreciated.Bill
  16. Merry Christmas...God Bless us everyone Bill
  17. mark1101, that makes total and logical sense to me...I have been trying some different combinations and was hoping not to have to pull everything out yet again but I'd bet the Heart is the same way as your Jolida... The Heart will go in with my EICO HF-81 (freshened by Craig at NOSValves)... Thanks, Bill
  18. in order to get the intended sound out of one of these, should I be using the digital out or the analog outs???...I have a Heart CD6000OSE and it has no owners manual (just for the Marantz unit it's based on)... I know Daddy Dee used to have one of these units, anyone else???thanks for any help you might provide...Bill
  19. they really punch well above their weight...thanks, Bill
  20. thanks guys...Bill, I can imagine that the only Klipsch "bookshelf" speakers to knock off the RB-5 would be the RB-75s...enjoy those...I'm listening to Diana Krall right now and the sound is so clean and tight...I know whomever bought your Mahogany RB-5s will love that finish (mine are Black Satin)... S'Funny but while waiting for mine to arrive, willand, oldenough and Audio Flynn's prior posts on RB-5s gave me a lot of information to absorb...thanks! Bill
  21. Picked up a nice pair of RB-5s on the Forum (thanks dm465531) and just now hooked them up to a Panasonic SA-XR70 digital HT receiver set up for 2 channel...using the COAX connection for CD and listening to some Pink Floyd The Endless River... Very clean sounding speakers with nice punch...I'm usually a Heritage guy but I must say that these Reference RB-5s are a really nice sounding speaker...clean with nice bass about a third less size than my kg2s and smaller still than Heresys (but with more bass)... Just thought I'd share...I plan to try the Bi-Wire/Bi-Amp function with these speakers but I'm in no hurry to get there just yet... Highly recommended...both the RB-5s and dm465531...even if you like Heritage...I know Steve Phillips is happy Bill
  22. arrived just a bit ago...FedEx was unkind to them but dm465531 packed them well...I am two songs in and these sound very nice...CLEAN sound with nice bass...Pink Floyd The Endless River time now... Pleasure doing business with you dm and thanks! Bill
  23. congrats to you both...thought these had sold already...Mahogany is beautiful... Bill
