  1. Here's a couple I found while cruising the internet. Haven't tried either one, so I can't attest to their effectiveness. Sorry, I don't know how to post the link. http://www.ethanwiner.com/basstrap.html and http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9714 Larry

By the way, Brian Johnson did a pretty good job of replacing Bon Scott, (Back in Black was the best selling album ever by them) even though I was a huge Bon Scott fan. Also, Paul Rogers (Free, Bad Company) is the new lead for Queen. I always thought he had one of the best voices in rock, but don't know how it will sound with Queen. Could be interesting.
  3. I think my wife only knows three words: TURN IT DOWN!

A heat gun makes the job much easier when removing the rear panel. Real easy to do, and while I had them apart, I sent my crossovers for an upgrade to DeanG. Couldn't be happier. Good luck! Larry

Nousaine (measuring the passive design with a slightly smaller external amplifier than the pci comes with) notes the 20-39 @ 32Hz at 115 and the Klipsch website notes the sub12 @ 30Hz at 117. Testing criteria are probably slightly different, but the results appear similar. Klipsch says bottom end for the sub12 is 24Hz (which means it probably drops off a bit higher than that). The 20-39 drops off just around 20Hz, maybe moderate to 18Hz. Two different sounds. One smaller with some kick, and one that will shake the room more significantly down low. ---------------- So, just as an example, let's say I am watching the depth charge scene from U-571. From what I understand from what you said, the Sub-12 might be a bit louder, but the SVS would deliver more impact that is felt? Correct me if I am wrong. tdkamerica....good advice on checking the return policy. Thanks, Larry
  6. RUN.... do not walk...and BUY THEM! That is a killer deal.

Oh by the way, don't be too surprised when the studios and theatrers try to pin the blame for declining attendance on the CE companies for producing electronics, speakers and video displays that rival the theater. Yeah, that would be a real pain if the FCC decided that the CE manufacturers needed to put a chip in their units that limited how loud they could play! You never know these days. Just joking...........I hope! That would start a real war of the worlds! Larry
  8. Thanks for the input. I wish Best Buy had a better listening area to demo the Sub-12. I have heard the SVS before and was very impressed, but I would rather introduce the Sub-12 into my Klipsch family if it really can handle the heat. Guess I'll bring along my LFE demo disc to Best Buy and see if they ask me to leave. Larry
  9. to purchase the SVS 20-39PCi, then along comes the Klipsch Sub-12. I've read some positives here concerning the sub 12. Would I be happy with it over the SVS? I am upgrading from a JBL PSW-1200 (120 watt, long overdue I know!). I would like to stay in the $600 and below range. My room is 12'6" W x 16'L x 10'H. Other equipment is listed below. My listening habits are probably about 80% movies and 20% music, and I do enjoy some serious impact from dvds that offer it. Thanks in advance for any input. Larry

I concluded it was not (not that the 1068 was bad at all - I just didn't see that much difference from the 1066). I did find the 1098 to be very, very nice. If that's in your price range, give it serious consideration. If not, the 1068 (and the NAD) are both very good units and I'd say both favor performance over bells and whistles. ---------------- I'll second what Darren says. I have the 1066 as well and couldn't be happier. Don't think you could go wrong with either choice though. Good luck!
  11. For you blues rock fans out there, check out Joe Bonamassa. You won't be disappointed. Great young guitarist who is very old school.

Dean just did the crossovers on my KLF-20's and I am major league impressed. Also, add me to the list on suggesting the Rotel. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Also, I agree on this 70 recordings thing....I was just listening to Aerosmith's "Rocks", remasterd, and was disappointed in the bass.
  14. I just got my upgraded crossovers for my KLF-20's back from Dean on Friday. After using liquid nails on the cabinets and putting everything back together, all I can say is WOW! As Dean said in his email to me, "It's for real, it works, and the difference is not subtle: Smoother, more open, and substantially less abrasive at high SPL's. No equipment upgrade does what this does." I have to totally agree with ALL of the above....especially the high SPL part...I probably damaged my hearing even further,..lol. I must have spent about 4 hours yesterday going through the cd collection and I am very impressed. I wish I had found this forum much sooner A huge THANKS to Dean for his work, and the quick turnaround time (7 days back and forth, incl. holiday). I highly recommend this upgrade for any of you KLF-20 or 30 owners out there. Thanks, Larry

I can't wait to get mine done, as I've heard some good news from those who have. Thanks, Larry
  17. Dragonfry, while I can certainly appreciate your knowledge of the subject, your method of delivery could definitely use some enhancement. I now realize how broad my original question was, but I was not asking this in an attempt to turn my simple room into a recording studio or La Scala. I would be willing to bet that less than 1% of the people on this forum have rooms which you have so eloquently described. Would I like to have a room like that? Hell yes, and I'm sure others here would also. But the reality is, most of us don't have that dream room, and never will. What you don't see as personal attacks, I, as well as others here seem to view them as such. I do not know you personally and you do not know me, or others here I presume, yet your verbal tirade against those that you view as inferior is laughable. Again, I am not implying that you do not possess a "higher knowledge" on this subject, just that you might exercise a bit of common coustesy to the great horde of poor ignorant souls that you address. To those that responded with some suggestions, I thank you. Moderators, for all I care you can close this thread, as it is serving no useful purpose. Thanks, Larry

I noticed that the two braces are glued in as well. Should I remove them also and liguid nail them too? Also, where exactly did you put the additional braces?
  20. Well, I got it apart and decided to go ahead and do the other as well. And while I'm at it, I'm going to get the crossover upgrade from DeanG........if he will answer my email..Dean where are you?????
  21. It might sound better thru some Monster cables and Bose speakers though...........
  22. Well. hot damn! Guess'n I better throw away all dem egg cartons that granny been saving for me, and dem tater sacks that i was a fixing to use for deffusers too! Sheet, i thunk i'll just re ware papa's old motorola and we have us a hoe down! We'uns down har in texas ain't too bright on dem big words, ya nos? Seriously though, while i can "see your humor", thanks for turning a newbies simple request for a bit of help into your personal soapbox. I think I'll just go back to lurking here. Ya'll have a good'un, ya hear! Larry
  23. Check the postings from texas42. He had a pair of KSP-S6's for sale.

And where if any are the other listening positions located and how important is good sound for them? Also, is this a dedicated listening room or do we need to compensate for WAF and all that? The most important seating position will be the two center chairs in the row of 4. 90% of the time it is just the wife and me using this room. Obviously, I like to go in and crank it up with music when she's not home or otherwise occupied. And yes, unfortunately, I am dealing with the dreaded WAF, so anything I do will have to be at least somewhat aesthetically pleasing.
