I thought that the Teac A-L700P tripath amp was discontinued. I learned that, in fact, it is available once again.

Guess what's in THIS box(this is hard)?

Dean's VRD's? -
Eric - Great idea! You could also add 30 pounds of lead weights to make the amp seem meatier and more substantial.

Tractrix squawker horn for the Belle and Khorn
raypenn replied to Al Klappenberger's topic in Technical/Restorations
Al - Looks like your project is coming together nicely. It also looks like this topic is on track to set a record for number of views (although I am sure that some of us keep coming back to the topic multiple times for the latest information). Can't wait to "hear" testing and listening results. Ray -
What suggestions do you have for a good bang for the buck preamplifier for use with the TEAC tripath A-L700P? Thanks.

Congratulations on your new acquisition. They look awesome and also look to be an excellent match to you AV furniture and carpet - and Golden Retriever as well! Enjoy! -
Cleaning, selling, and fulfilling a LONG-standing obligation

You must have one of those huge 60 FOOT monitors! (measured diagonally, of course). -
In the topic about the Jubilee (now over 1000 views!) Dean mentioned a recent article on replacing the KHorn tweeter. I did not see that article. Did it suggest that the tweeter should be replaced? If so, with what? Thanks.

Thanks for the information and your other posts, Gil. It sounds like you are the Forum's resident historian!

You make some good points, Joe, especially for more expensive items. However, I think that some people set a limit on what they will pay, and enter that as their maximum bid early, because they might forget or not be available to bid as the end of the auction approaches.

I have a pair of Belle's built around 1971. I always assumed they had the K-400 horns that I have read about on this forum - I didn't know any better until I looked today. The horns are actually K-500. Does anybody know the differences between the K-400 and K-500, and when the production change was made? Thanks.

Never thought I'd hear sound better than Khorns
raypenn replied to Daddy Dee's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Let's hear it Dean. We can take it! -
I have read a number of posts that mention ringing of the horns, and ways to damp the horns to prevent this. This may sound naive, but can somebody describe the "ringing" sound? Is it subtle? Is it only at high volume levels? Thanks.

Gramas - Personally, I would try the Home Depot route like you suggested. I could never hear a difference between "normal" speaker cable and the monster or other exotic cables when used with efficient speakers. As others have said, this makes me wonder how much of the other differences we think we hear are real or just the result of advertising and group thinking. You can't change the power wires in your walls, so why would the last few feet from the wall to your equipment make any difference? Having said all that, if it looks great and makes you feel proud of your system, there is nothing wrong with that.

There are quite a few FM stations already broadcasting in both digital and analog formats. The new digital broadcasting is referred to by some as high definition radio or HD radio. My understanding is that the new technology will also spread to AM radio in the near future. It is not expected that stations will discontinue analog broadcasts for several years. Ray

I suggest that you do not use copper shielded cable! I previously had copper braided cable in my former house, and it worked fine for regular cable TV. I recently moved, and my new house (about ten years old) has copper braided cable running through the walls to each room. I thought this is great until I tried to activate Comcast digital cable TV and internet service. I found that most of the basic channels 1-99 worked fine, but the digital channels and internet would not work at all! I found out that the copper is the problem (not the copper center conductor, but the copper shielding). I ran new cable with aluminum braided shielding up the stairs to the rooms I need most, and everything works fine. Now I just need to figure our how to run the wires up into the attic and down the walls to hide the cable. The existing wires are apparently stapled to the studs, so I can't simply attach the new cable to the old cable and pull it through. Anybody else have this problem? Ray

Can you please tell me what the differences are between Altec horns 811, 811a, 811b and H811? Are they all equally suited for a Belle modification? Thanks.

I understand that there are a number of FM stations in major markets that are broadcasting in digital format. Has anybody heard these? Who makes receivers that can capture the digital signal? Thanks.
