  1. If your ears ring, its too loud and hearing loss can occur. Walk out of the venu or turn the volumn down. Larry
  2. HI, I'm in. I know Craig only from this forum and from his posts I know he is a man who I would like to have as a friend God bless your dad Craig Larry Citro
  3. hi, It'll probably be in the living room with the Forte speakers and the Cary SLI-80 as this is the system that gets the most use. I'll try it first with the Cornwalls and Wright mono 3.5s just to get an idea of how "bad" the old Kyocera player is. The B&W speakers and the Soundcraftsman amp & pre is an anaolg being used with a Music Hall MMF-5.
  4. Thanks for all of your recomemndations. They were helpful. After some thought, I ordered an Rega Apollo CD player from Uptown Audio in Ronaoke VA. Very nice folks on the phone line. They have a lot of high end gear and specialize in analog. They have 6 complete analog displays in their show room. The owner said the Rega is the most analog sounding CD player he has ever heard including players up to several times its price. I ordered one. I will update you all as to how it sounds. good listening all,
  5. Hi, Kudos to you for donating the best you can give (your time and effort) for a great cause. Have fun !! Larry
  6. The Cornwalls ( with BEC crossovers ) sound about as good as the Thiels with the old Kyocera, except for the bass. The mids and highs are glorious with tremendous presence and soundstaging. That being said I am looking for a new source and at present am considering a Rega Apollo, Music Hall 2.52 with the Underwood mods, an Ah Njoe Tjoeb 4000 with the upsampler and a Jolida JD 1000. Anyone have any experience with these players ? Thanks, Larry
  7. LOL, Mr Wright did just fine by my amps. You DO know that if you send those amps back to Mr. Wright, for a mere $250, he will update them to current standards..... [li] [li]
  8. SET and tight bass are mutually exclusive. You choose one, you can't have the other. Yes I know, just hoping for the impossible. I do remember way back when my dad and I built a pair of Karlson enclosures with Electrovoice 12TRX speakers and we did stuff the box with some kind of padding or fiberglass.
  9. driven by a pair of 500 watt ss monoblocks and some megabuck cd player playing some of my CDs at a high end dealer in Philadelphia. The Thiels have a 8" woofer, a 7x11" passive radiator a 3.5" mid which has a coaxial 1" tweeter and are phased aligned with a 6db per octive crossover to the mid/tweeter which has a mechanical crossover. 87 db sensitivity and retail for about 4400 dollars. see here: http://thielaudio.com/THIEL_Site05/Pages/models/Current_Models/CS2_4/cs2_4nws.html So how did that compare to my Cary SLI-80 and Forte Is with a 12 year old Sony CD player? Clearly better with a more defined, detailed high end, tighter but now lower bass and mids about the same but with better imaging. So now I'm thinking I sould go ss and Thiels. I go downstairs and fire up the 1979 Cornwalls with Wright Mono3.5 with a 20 y/o Kyocera CD player and except for some indistinct bass ( which may be related to the flea power of the 2a3's) they sounded as good and as real as the Thiels, a bit different in balance but overall as good. Now I'm scratching my head and putting my wallet back in my pocket. How can speakers so different and so far apart in age sound so much alike ? Don't know but kudos to PWk for getting it right the first time. The only thing I'd like to do is tighten up the bass a bit. I know a ss amp would help. But I want to stay with the SET amps. Would putting some fiberglass or other material in the enclosures help this. Any suggestions appreciated. good listening Larry
  10. Your going to be real impressed when you fire them up. Wright is right way to go. I have a pair of mono 3.5s I bought from cyotee and they are the most natural sounding amps I have. Larry
  11. here's a quick panorama of the area ... done in PS
  12. It's a great gift and do it. What's so great about it ? It's the thought and effort you have put into creating a unique gift that only you can give him. No matter how it sounds, he will love reciecving it and you will love giving it. Memories that will last for the rest of your lives will be created. march on and let us know how it all works out Larry
  13. hi, Thank you for the replies. I'll try some or all of these and see what works for me. A story about cleaning things. My other hobby is astronomy and I have some expensive scopes. The optics get dirty and you have to clean them occasionally without scratching the 2 or 3 micron thick silver coating on the mirror. I tried all the suggested remedies such as 2 or 3 drops of ivory soap in a gallon of distilled water and passing soaked cotton sawb over the mirror from center to outer edge just once and repeating with a clean swab until the whole mirror is cleaned. This takes about 100 to 200 swabs. Well, I figured there must be a better way. So I got a five gallon container put a lot of drops of Ivory soap in it and after blowing off the dust from the mirror I dumped the the solution on the mirror. Gravity drained it and then held the mirror and climbed into a hot shower to rinse it off. Rinsed it again with distilled water and, Presto a prisitne mirror without any scratches. I posted this on an astronomy web site and the only suggestion I got was the next time I should climb into a hot tub with the mirror as it might be more romantic. Well, so much with sharing ideas out of the box with the public. Thank you for your serious suggestions. Larry
  14. hi, i've seen him twice live. Great,, just great. GOOOOO Larry
  15. Hi. I'm using Wright Mono 3.5 set amps ( 3.5 watts a channel ) with my Cornwalls in a 26 x 14 foot room. There's plenty of volume and enough bass to satisfy me with jazz and acoustic vocals. I have Forte's with 80 tube watts as a 2ed system and the little Wrights sound better to me. Coltrane, Evans, Davis, Monk or whoever they all sound great. Larry
  16. hi, http://www.wrti.org/ WRTI, Philadelphia, Pa jazz 6 pm till 6am, classical 6am till 6pm. Larry
  17. hi I'm using the AES ae-3 preamp with my Wright Mono 3.5s and Cornwalls. The sound is great. see here http://www.upscaleaudio.com/product.asp?itemid=27&catid=29 Larry

  19. hi, Beyond the Sea starring Kevin Spacey. About the life of Bobby Darin. All the songs are sung by Spacey. Larry
  20. hi, I read on other forums that the price of the Gold Lions is too high for the performance given. I have the Tung Sol solid gray plates which are highly regarded and imho a great tube. The best prices I've seen are about 600.00 a quad. Amazingly, the JJ Telsa KT88's to my ears are just as good and far less money. A great tube and a great bargin. Larry
  21. Actually, after a divorce, I think they are invisable. They go --POOF--- and you can't see them anymore. Larry
  22. Hi, Is a 6dj8 a better preamp tube then a 6sn7 ? Larry
