  1. @ JM What we can build these days..... several years ago halfway decent would have cost you around 1100 USD. Now 700 USD isn't looking bad, and anything excessively past that is uneccesary now.
  2. All HD players have to decode the HD audio signals internally. It's how the new HD formats were engineered.
  3. Pay attention? Pfft, thread proclaims sections slow, so attention is given. Beggars need not be choosers.
  4. I'm beginning to believe that "Klipsch" is a not a company, it is a disease. I think I've been infected. Amy, quick, get this line to marketing!
  5. How much did it cost to future proof? For others wanting to jump on the multi core bandwagon, 190 USD can net you a 2.4 ghz Intel Quad Core at Fry's for a limited time. Who says the US dollar is worthless ....... []
  6. Jay, what do you need a quadcore for? To play Crysis, Alan Wake?
  7. The only "new" PS3 SKU I can think of will be the special edition "Metal Gear Solid 4" variant that may have the game, and different color. Nothing special, unless you’re an uber MGS fanboy who must have yet another MGS toy. Amazon used to run special when the HD cat fight was ensuing; BOGO's and plain free discs. Right now, as far as the PS3 is concerned, any place is as good as the next.
  8. The RF has a finer sense of refinement than the Synergy lineup. I personally can't stand them (not the subs mind you ) , but many enjoy them; to each their own. But congrats on building your HT!
  9. Sorry Harry, but Vista require newer hardware, and pretty much non Nvidia graphics solutions.
  10. The first wave of PS3's had the guts of a PS2 inside the PS3 to for full backwards compatibility. Sony has since then ripped out those parts and is rumored to be going to a software emluation model; the same that the 360 has been using since its release. With software emulation, only a few games will be backwards compatible, vs the entire library Sony so arrogantly boasted of in the months leading up to the PS3's launch.
  11. Trey I have one, I'll post it on here when I have time to game... which might be another week. What do you play on LIve? Halo 3, COD 4?
  12. B&K sounds great with Klipsch, but so did the Halo A-23 I a few years back as well. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Now if you want a B&K amp.......
  13. Don't be to confused; its quite simple. If your HD device doesn't require HDMI for HD audio and video output, as well, if your reveiver/pre/pro allows analog MPCM connections (DVDA, SACD) then you are set for the current HD codecs. Per HD-DVD and Blu-Ray specs, the audio files are unpackaged/decoded at the player level, and then sent to the receiver/pre/pro for playback. Those packages if you will are TrueHD, DTSMA etc, which unpacked are nothing more than super high resolution PCM files. I beleive there was talk that future interations of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray specs would allow for the audio files to be sent for decoding to the receiver/pre/pro instead of at the player level. Hope that helps, and anyone else with more current information, please correct me.
  14. No, you are correct. That is why Toshiba is listed as part of the companies that may be paying up. Though I know this may be commonplace in the current marketplace, it rings back to just a few years ago when it was discovered that a third party vendor owned the rights to rumble/vibration technology that was used in video game controllers in Microsoft's XBox and Sony's PS 2. Unlike MS who avoided litigation and settled outside of court immediately when the controversy started, Sony dragged their feet all the way to the courthouse. Judge decided that Sony must stop the sell of all their consoles since rumble tech was standard in every controller that they made. Sony averted that financial disaster by paying the royalty fees on top of court fees. As a result, Sony balked at the idea of incorporating rumble tech into the almost similar PS3 controller saying it would interfere with the Sixasis tech that was being incorporated. In reality, the previous court decision probably inhibited their inclusion until a licensing agreement was sealed.
  15. And may the Ivory Tower prevail yet again.
  16. Oh no! Now i know what I must buy after grad school []
  17. @ mdeneen I have the same resoultion, though on a Dell monitor. It doesn't display right with the window maximized of course. Its a cosmetic pet peave of mine, and a no 1 rule of web development that I adhere to: no pictoral backgrounds.
  18. Lots of neat info on there Amy. Can't say that I like the design, especially the huge background images that look so funky when viewing the site on different monitor resultions. Joe
  19. Certain games allow for cross platform multiplayer: ie.: Shadow Run. It allows for both PC and 360 players to frag each other. Its on a game per game basis. I beleive that the casual 360 arcade games can be cross platform played via PC Xbox Live players as well; ie.: UNO, Chess, etc. I'd add my gamertag, but school doesn't allow me the luxury just yet...
  20. Me thinks they got it from an un authorized dealer.
  21. + 1 for the PS3. Its is the ONLY future proof player on the market. When profile 2.0 becomes standard, countless players will be bricked in regards to accessing newer content. Shame HD-DVD died. @ Indy The newer machines will probably have a larger HD which serves no real practical purpose. Have a PS3 and want a larger HD? Switch it our yourself and do not wait for another SKU to roll around. In terms of BC, Sony has made a clown of themselves. Good Ole GrandDad Ken lamblasted MS for their limited software emulation of certain titles on the 360 claiming that Sony, master of all that is good would include full hardware based decoding of all previous gen titles, PS 1 n 2. Unfortunatley, the cost factor severely wounded Sony which, in the 2nd round of PS3's threw out full hardware based BC leaving a bit of poo on Sony's face in the eye of countless gamers and many others scrambling to find 1st gen PS3 for their precious gaming needs. Alas, rumor has it that Sony is going the full software emulation route, the one chosen by MS which has proven rather succesful. Unfortunatley for Sony, there is no grace for any of their actions, only shame and a horde of gamers, pointing figners and laughing at them like the dejected kid on the school playground that they are. Whew, so how's everyone doing today? []
