  1. Congratulations Mark. Hopefully you don't retire from this forum. [] If that craving kicks in again to hear an xti.....give me a shout and I'll send one your way. []
  2. That's how I like to listen to my music.....with the mids turned down just a tad. It allows the bass and treble to be more present.....especially the bass. I could never understand how some guys whoset their tone controls or eq with the mids turned up could listen to music that way. Subs can be a PITA to dial in for music.....but when you get it right it's awesome. You might want to try an eq or a crossover to get the sound you want. That's what I do. I have to.
  3. Dean, I pulled out my crossovers and now I can't get them back in. I got some duct tape designed specifically for RF-7's but it ain't sticking. I'll call you tonight about 9:30 and you can walk me through it. It shouldn't take long.
  4. Yeah, the 30's have the ability to move internal organs around. At what point did they seem to lose their bass?
  5. Never made it... Is the place going to have the full line on display? What is the name of the place again? I might take a swing by on Monday if they still have them on display. My gf has a doctor's appointment at the University of Chicago and I might be able to talk her into taking a detour. James http://www.edgeaudiovideo.com/As far as I know, they're carrying Klipsch and Mac gear now. I thought the Palladiums with the Krell gear was really impressive. Big bucks though.
  6. Hey James...... Did you ever get up to Palatine to hear the Palladiums?
  7. Atta boy. [Y] Where's the party dude?
  8. My goal as an audio enthusiast is to go back to being 17. Wine.....women......and song. [Y]
  9. I've heard the Palladiums on two seperate occasions and own Reference speakers. I would tend to agree with that statement. I would love to hear Jubs someday.
  10. What model Behringer x-over? CX3400 2/3 way stereo, 4 way mono. 24 dB/oct Linkwitz-Riley slopes, phase inverting and mute switches on each output. I like it because it has knobs and I'm messing with different drivers and horns all the time. I can make quick adjustments on the fly and immediately hear the changes. I'm usng a CX2310. I'm finding that setting the input gains as low as possible (-6 in my case) has given me the least amount of noise and best results overall. I realize that by eliminating this link in the chain would probably yeild a cleaner sound........but being able to make these adjustments is giving me the sound I want.
  11. Now you know where I'm coming from.
  12. I'm curious to know how many of you guys are bi-amping........and how are you doing it with what kind of results? Also, guys that are active bi-amping......what kind of active crossovers are you using presently? Crossovers used in the past? Good ones.....Bad ones....and why? Thanks, Scott.
  13. Yes, you can... I thought the Merlin used the same circuit as the linestage section of the Blueberry? Unless Mark changed something, it won't work with the great majority of solid state amps without altering the frequency response. When I owned the Peach ll......it had a Hi-Z and a Low-Z mode switch for this purpose. I could be wrong but it was the only JMA preamp that could serve this purpose. That was a slick preamp......especially with the HT bypass. []
  14. MD 20/20 brings back memories........The problem is I don't remember them now because I couldn't remember them then. uhh? [:S]
  15. Good power amps like the Bryston 3B-ST and QSC Powerlight running with a tube preamp -- I'm comparing the sound to things I've owned in the past. When I first brought the Denon home and hooked it up to some RB-5's for a test run I thought it sounded about as pedestrian as you can get. When I joined the forum, I had RB-5's being driven with a 200 wpc Luxman amp and Anthem tubed linestage -- I remember what that sounds like -- barely in the same ballpark with the Denon. It did open up a little after the first few days which stopped me from taking the thing back. Since my focus was on HT performance and not 2-channel critical listening, I was willing to live with it. O.K., if HT receivers aren't lacking in "clarity and detail" compared to the "better" set ups, then what are they lacking in when we compare them? I think most of the money goes into the front end of these units -- and then they tack on 7 power modules. Thanks Dean. So, are you gonna pair up one of these Emotiva amps with the Denon? I take it you're running the Denon by itself right now?
  16. I've had two Denon receivers and I never would have described them as lacking in clarity and detail......interesting. What would you be comparing to? These Emotiva amps have got me interested.
  17. For Sale (2) RSW-15 subwoofers. I'm the original owner and they are three years old.......in excellent condition. (both are black) Sorry, I don't have pics because I don't own a camera. All I can tell you is that they are basically in the same condition as when I bought them. I have orignal boxes and receipts. Located in between Chicago and Milwaukee. Will not ship. I would be willing to drive to meet half way if reasonable. These subs were in the same spot the entire time I've owned them......stacked in a corner, never had the gain above three. I will sell them seperately for $700.00 each. Thanks, Scott.

    SUB-12 OWNERS

This is also the method I use to get the most out of my subs. When I first started using subwoofers, I used to adjust the crossover on the sub as well as the receiver. I later found out that by doing this I was "restricting" the sub's performance.
  19. When I'm drinking beer......my ss sounds better. When I'm drinking wine.....my tubes sound better. (when I had them) When under the influence of caffeine......my stock car stereo sounds better. hmm.....
  20. I picked one up a few months ago for fifty bucks in excellent condition from a guy that restores vintage gear.In this hobby.....that was some of the best money I ever spent. [Y]
  21. RF-7's and Bose "Lifestyle" all in the same breath.........oh no you didn't. []
