  1. Ray......The Marantz looks sweet!! Quite a few months ago, I was eyeballin a PM-7001 integrated......Read some very good reviews on it and for $599.00 it was tempting. I ended up scoring a model 3600 preamp for $300.00............built like a rock and sounds excellent.........I never looked back. Marantz and Klipsch......[Y][Y]
  2. I run the Ultra/2 and RSW-15's with RF-7's...........can't go wrong with these subs combined with 7's.[] I used a Sub12 with the 7's for a short while.........step up to the big boys and you'll be very pleased.[]
  3. The LF-10 is a kick *** little sub.............for a little room.[Y][Y]
  4. Thanks again, Mike. A cheesefest mini-seminar would be cool.[]
  5. Thanks, Mike. I forgot one thing.............this is important.[] My preamp (Denon 3805) for this particular system has a built in eq that can be manually adjusted. I'm telling you, the ability to use the eq in the reciever and the active crossover really gives me the sound that I want............What do you make of this??? And just to be clear..........is what I'm doing considered a bad thing.............or is this something that's not really hurting anything?
  6. Yeah............I was previously doing this with XLS 802's. Since I got the XTI's hooked it up the same way and just really, really like how it sounds. Haven't gotten around to figuring out the DSP yet...........but I intend to. RCA out of preamp to XLR into the active crossover............. XLR out of the active crossover to XLR into the XTI 2000's.............. With the jumper removed on the back of the RF-7's.............one amp running the HF's..........the other amp running the LF's. It seems like a couple of you guys that really know what you're talking about don't believe in "Fool's Bi-amping". I very much respect your knowledge but............Like I said, I've gone back and forth and keep going back to the Fool's Bi-amping method. Call me crazy but it sounds to me that it is actually scratching the surface of true bi-amping..........and if I had the equipment etc. to do real bi-amping, I would. In the meantime........without anything scientific to back it up, except my own two ears and a lot of experimenting............"Fool's Bi-amping" wih an active crossover is a very cool "tweak", if you will..........and I will keep it this way with no resevations, until I do it with the DSP.[Y][Y][]
  7. I have been going back and forth with Fool's Bi-amping using multiple XTI's and an active crossover..........."To my ears" the Fool's Bi-amping ALWAYS sounds better.........I wish it didn't in a way because I could use the extra amps elsewhere in my house.[] I have always been in favor of having tone controls...........Could it be that because I'm able to tweak the active crossover that's the sole reason I prefer this method?
  8. I also have the Sub-12..........you won't be disappointed.[Y][Y]
  9. Properly tuning multiple subs can be tricky..........even a pain in the butt. Be patient, keep experimenting, listen to the pros here (I'm not one of them) and when you get it right you'll absolutely love it.[Y]..............location.........location.........location.
  10. I'm diggin' my XTI's........"Fool's Bi-amped" with a cheap active crosover!![Y][Y]

    Two Subs

One good sub is better than two mediocre subs.
  12. Yeah..........70's and 80's hard rock for me, probably forever. Heavy metal is wearing out very quickly. In the last couple of years in this hobby..........I'm intrigued by smooth jazz. Not to crazy about classic jazz but smooth jazz's sound quality blows me away. I started listening to it on Sirius.........got to know some of the names and proceeded to buy quite a few cd's now. It makes a beer drinker like me want to start drinking wine.[D] Basically, this hobby has turned a metal head like me into someone that is on a quest to find anything that sounds good. Klipsch speakers made that possible.[]
  13. A subwoofer project that has a sole purpose of pissing off your neighbors..............??[8o|].............Let's hear the story.
  14. I have some that are made by "Hosa". They don't seem to be the greatest quality though.
  15. Wow............maybe I better finish watching it. I remember John Mayer sounding really good.
  16. I have the first dvd and have really enjoyed it (although it's been quite some time). On the first one there was a group called the "__________ family band;" were they on the second one as well? David Robert Randolph and the Family Band...............I don't think so but when I get home I'll check. I only watched about 3/4 of the new one.
  17. I bought the DVD a few weeks ago.............I like the first one better...........2006 I believe. If there are more, I was not aware.
  18. Edgy........no doubt.[N]Fatiguing.........depends on how many beers. Grainy...........depends on how much crap is in my ears after work.[] Like I said........it just ain't clean man!! LOL[]
  19. Good luck Gary........curious to hear the solution.[8-)]
  20. Yeah........Holy Hill is a beautiful area, especially for a ride on the bike.[]I don't ride unfortunately but you guys are more than welcome to visit my place for some food, drink and great tunes. A little off the beaten path about 25 minutes west of I94 on hwy 50..........ten minutes from Lake Geneva.[Y]
  21. And, it's a good part of the fun. You are hearing notable differences in amps that are of relatively similar design. Now project the differences onto entirely different topologies, different design goals, principles etc., and you can see just how big the world is. 10-4 that.[]
  22. Actually, SW of Milwaukee..............Twin Lakes. My sister lives in Kenosha and I do a lot of work there. In fact, I'm working there right now at 158 and H..........the new Rustoleum building next to the DMV.
  23. What did you have in mind? Hang out a bit, it's always nice to hang out with speaker types like us and maybe get some good ideas where to part our stuff for a few days as well as sleeping place thoughts .....more of a bike weekend than anything else, but we are wanting to make the trip I'm about 50 minutes south of Milwaukee............would like to meet up with you guys...........or stop by my place for a cook out and some tunes.August............sun, hot weather.............can't wait.[]
