  1. I seem to recall that driving a solid state amp with a tube preamp could be risky. Something about DC leakage from the preamp at power on (even with cap coupled outputs). Some SS amps can handle this, some can't. What is it in the amps circuit that determines this? I'd also be curious to know if anyone has successfully used combinations of the following: pre: Juicy Music Blackberry amp: McIntosh MC2120 H-K 730 Thanks! Steve.
  2. Yes, but he's selling the JBL Sovereigns to he can BUY JBLs (4350s). Steve.
  3. [ 9/28 - The buyer reneged on the deal, so they are again available. $1050, obo, pick-up only from DC].
  4. Hi. I'm not sure what the finish is - the model number has faded away, and I'm not familiar enough with Klipsch speakers to know by sight. Does the included picture help?
  5. [ 9/28 - The buyer reneged on the deal, so they are again available. $1050, obo, pick-up only from DC]. Hi All - I was high bidder on E-bay for these rare birds three weeks ago. However I bit off more than I can chew in how much work it would take to make them look good again. Fortunately for me, Frzninvt's 62's came up for sale and so I would now like to sell this pair. Forum members have placed these vertical Cornwalls as 64s or 65s based on the driver serial numbers (the speaker serial numbers have completely faded). The good news is that the drivers on these are in excellent condition and sound great (I listened to them with a new pair of BEC's B-types, but I'll put back the originals for sale). Otherwise they need work: one cabinet has a black water stain on one side. The finish is a bit rough. The grill clothes are UGLY and you'll probably want to replace them. $1050, obo. Pickup only, from Washington DC. Steve. sfcw65@nih.gov
  6. Does anyone know of someone who can do similar work in the Washington DC area? Thanks, Steve.
  7. Hi Good2BHome, Can you tell me how you arrived at those dates? Is there a listing of driver serial numbers available? (I'm interested since I was the high bidder). Thanks, Steve.
  8. The new post editing is broken under Mac OSX Safari. I'm having to use Firefox.
  9. There was a link to http://www.dagogo.com/Print/47LabNARU.html on the SP mailing list a few weeks ago. It's a memoir of the "Jazz Cafes" in Japan in the late 60's. It's a wonderful read. Also some mention of the big JBL & Tannoy systems employed. I wound up buying CDs (from HMV Japan) of the Getz, Dolphy, Simone & Jarrett albums mentioned in the article. Really great stuff, the Dolphy & Simone live concerts in particular. And "Sweet Rain" is beautiful too. (Still need time on the Jarrett, though... [:^)]). Steve.

  11. Thank-you Frzninvt and Gilbert! (Now all I have to do is win the auction). Steve.
  12. Hi All, I'm thinking of bidding on a 60's pair of Cornwalls on e-bay. These do not have removable grills, and the grill cloth on them looks like it's had a hard life. Can they be easily replaced? How? And what would be a good source of cloth. Thanks for any help, Steve.
  13. And I wonder what kind of bandwidth you could expect out of transformers for a PA amp!

A Forte I's PR area would be ~113 sq in, and a II's PR would be ~177 sq in. But I'm not sure what you mean by the "total area behind the speaker". Thanks, Steve.
  15. Ok, so some are feeling pretty good about this positive review of the Belle Klipsch - BUT, what about the fact that the reviewer felt it was necessary to replace all of the wiring to make it sound listenable. Not to mention a couple of hundred hours of "breakin" time, and "that any Klipsch speaker requires considerable user tweaking". Do you really trust the opinions of this guy? Steve.

Thanks, Steve.

  19. I've come to this thread way too late and it looks like it's winding down, but I'm curious about people's listening history in arguments on SET on this forum. Who here have been long-time Klipsch owners and have tried SET and prefer it - vs - those who are SET owners who have become Klipsch owners because of its high efficiency, and prefer that combination? Steve.
