  1. That makes a lot of sense, it never occurred to me. I suppose I should crank up the patience knob and sit put for another few months until the DVD.
  2. If Abba wasn't bad enough, for some strange reason Yanni is playing in my headphones... mix a sleepless night of cramming for an electric circuits exam with some hunger, sore muscles and a horrible tasting juice and bam! even Yanni sounds good
  3. prodj101, fantastic looking speakers! I've heard the factory 2.5s at a showroom, they're very musical. Do these contain the Scan-speak 18W and the D2010? Hows that 6 1/2' woofer? I hear its got good bass for its size in that proac-design. How does that 18W sound? I remember it being slightly soft but quite smooth. Nice job building those yourself.
  4. Yikes, thanks Nick I'll edit that post. My memory served me wrong, its been a longtime since I saw Swingers.

    Serenity

    Anyone watch Battlestar Galactica?
  6. Gift her a ticket to Prog Power fest, that ought to smooth out the hate A very close friend of mine just got his first engineering job and his job took him down to Atlanta for a month or more starting yesterday. First thing I did when I found out, rang him a call and told him to get his butt down to Prog Power.
  7. I'm seeing Gamma Ray in may as well, though I can't remember the date off the top of my head. Or was it june? My friend is responsible to get the tickets. Simone Simons sang for Kamelot, and man.. shes a HOTTIE! ;-) Kamelot put on a good show, the venue they chose was kind of small/cramped and the sound was merely OK but the show itself was very nice. They played a good mix of songs from various albums, especially the last three Karma, Epica and The Black Halo. I'd love to see Epica live, will check if they're coming up to Canada anytime soon. I haven't heard a lot from them. If I ever travel to europe, I'll time it so I can go to one of their metal music festivals in Germany or somewhere, they have so many across the Atlantic and their line-ups are always fantastic.
  8. Dream Theater concert? Oh, I am so envious, especially as I've yet to see them live myself. The concert is in Atlanta, GA, at Earthlink Live. The "ProgPower VII" word is a hot-link to the ProgPower USA website, with all the information, including the all the bands that are playing. I've flown there myself from D.C. and took the subway up to the mid-town area. The subway stop was only a couple blocks from the Earthlink Live venue as well as the hotel I stayed at. I've already made up my mind that I am going. Simone Simon's group Epica is playing as well? DAMN! Thats cool man... and Evergrey! I envy you Skonopa, you've seen some great list of metal bands, but in order to return the envy I'm seeing Dream Theater in 10 days (march 22nd). And the best part, no crappy opening bands, just 3 straight hours of pure DT dosage! Its gonna be mind-boggling wonder how it'll compare to Kamelot's performance..mmm...

    Serenity

I liked Serenity, and more so because I watched Firefly once in awhile. That fight scene at the bar like place was nuts man! Summer Glau can bend and twist allright.
  10. and Swingers as well...directed by *refer below*
  11. Frampton Comes Alive - Peter Frampton Live at Donnington - AC/DC S&M - Metallica (really good sound quality, and the DVD is quite amazing) Unplugged - Clapton
  12. Nick, how was last night?? Waiting for a review I'm so psyched to see them this 22nd. I have to agree with rockbobmel, Images and Words was their best era.
  13. 11 days till I see DT at the Massey Hall in Toronto its gonna blow my mind!
  14. This thread has made me wonder why acoustic treatments are so important, google search gave me some great info. Does anyone have any document or website link where I can learn the fundamentals of how different horns perform, say like a comparison between the stock klipsch and the altecs that everybody is after. Just wondering why exactly some are better than the other.
  15. I was browsing through my univ's library and came across this dusty worn-out little book called Hi-Fi Loudspeakers and Enclosures by Abraham B.Cohen. I read it for an hour or so and decided to take it out for a few weeks. It is an excellent read for anyone wanting basic knowledge of speakers, enclosures, room treatments, crossover, dampening and all the fundamentals. It even extensively covers the theory on horn loaded speakers and has a bunch of comparisons. I havent read a whole lot yet but from flipping through I found a section on the folded-horn LF section design of the Klipschorn for 2 or 3 pages. Very interesting, the author also talks about folded-horn designs of the University Classic, Dean, and the Lee Catenoid system. Also a lot of information on enclosure types, port design and tuning, resonance and all sorts of "goodies". I'm quite excited to start reading every page, will take me a few days along with school work and other social activities to get through this book. It also contains excellent graphs for comparison between different designs and such. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn the fundamentals, it can be found used on Amazon I think. Any further suggestions on other books are very welcome, I'm still a rookie so nothing too technical yet. I need to learn the basics thoroughly.
  16. I like the originals better as well. I have an original of Zeppelin II, a late 70s one I believe that I picked up at an used store couple years ago. It was in mint condition, its marginally better than the remastered. I can't tell the difference much in my system, I'm still a newbie. But on my roomate's dad's system, the difference is quite audible. First thing that comes to my mind is better bass.
  17. I can't wait to get outta school in late April, my folks currently live 10hrs north of Toronto. Up by there the next nearest town is over 250miles away, and a thousand or so lakes inbetween. Many of which aren't even explored by many yet because those little northern towns are home to 1500-2000 folks too far apart. Thats what makes the fishing so amazing. I can't wait to throw out my spinners for some bass, and hook up some leeches for those delicious Walleyes. Man... the wait is agonizing, I can't wait to get back out and fish again.
  18. Very nice collection of guitars, especially that Jazz Bass (although im not a bass player). How do you like the neck on that Ibanez? I find it too thin for my liking, but that Telecaster has gotta be one very clean tone machine. nice stuff
  19. I find that some of the best discussiong regarding soundcards are in the Audio forum in AVS Forums. There are many that are good for 2-channel listening, such as M-audio's Audiophile card and a few others.
  20. Lets face it, people are constantly modding and upgrading their equipment all the time. Some changes might've been quite minor, while others, drastically alter the way your system performs. There are tons of mods to speakers, amps, room treatments etc etc... but personally through all the years of being an audiophile, which single mod or upgrade or change has had the most impact on your system?
  21. The market by the waterfront would be Toronto's and one of north america's oldest market - St.Lawrence Market. Its flanked by vintage wine store, a beer market, and a antique market across the road. Awesome place for fresh food, especially fresh meat and seafood. And if you are ever in town, PM me we'll have a blast. I haven't met any Klipschite up here yet..... the Delta, thats right in the heart of d'town , a few mins walk to Eatons and a further 10min walk to entertainment district. sweet
  22. You seem to make some elaborate meals! You dont live in Toronto and vicinity do you? darn, I'd so pay someone for homecooked ribs
  23. delicious milk chocolate with a decadent filling in the center.... wow this stuff is good
  24. Well well, some nice largemouth bass
