  1. its not really talent its more like having time and nothing else to do. as i am working on a H1 to match my main lascalas in the same finish built from scratch and then ti will do the same for my H2s look for a thread in the future i will try to pm you a link if i remember. have fun with your project and take your time there is always no hurry to make things look as good as you would want to. i also have the cast frame crites woofers and love them,
  2. this is a project that i built it has 2 - 12s ported with the k400 and k77 at the moment it used the heresy 1 12s i never got around to getting the new heresy 3 woffers it i tuned the box to 34 hz and man does it sound good i just dont think i like the size any more. i am using a standard lascala xover type aa. it has an absoulute butiful sound and maybe a little more output cause of the 2 12s. im in the middle of building a really nice H1 for my center now any questions ask. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/103089.aspx?PageIndex=1
  3. My personal choice would be an alpine i have been running alpine since 2003 and on my 3rd radio from them none of which has ever given me a problem. Ijust got the urge to upgrade. still have my previous 2 for what reason. i dont know just cant let go. they also make a marine grade radio with a marine grade coating on them 2and also have the features you are looking for. i wouls also look at geting a clear cover plate that mounts over the face to prevent direct water from getting on the radio (it may be protected from alpine with seals i dont know) check alpine electronics usa for there marine radios they have a full marine line. i have 0 experence with the marine grade products but if its as good as the regular line its worth it. i also have the car line pdx amps and love them and wouldnot trade them for nothing else cant beat the sound and size package.although i dont care for the mids and high speakers just dont like the sound i prefer jl audio for my speakers
  4. thanks for the info on the port acting as one. ans as far as the image i belive i already have that image on my computer but thanks again.
  5. Let me start by saying that I have read a lot of the cornscala and Cornwall port topics but I have a couple of questions that I either never found or missed over. For starters I will build a prototype before I get the real 1” mdf with my choice of exotic wood on it I am thinking about using from brookside veneer. And have the veneer go horizontal around the speaker. Not like the traditional vertical grain. http://www.veneers.com/list_veneers.htm?2-1-Medium Zebrawood Color: Medium Part No: 650/00/Y17 I’m planning on building a split cornscala with the unfortunate inside dimensions of 22.25x22.25x22.25 so I will be able to have a 22.25 with for my port. All sides of the box are hopefully going to be 1” mdf pending transportation. What I want to do for looks is to have the look or the look of 3 separate ports on the bottom of the cab. (These will be seen) aesthetics. My 3 ports will be seen on the front of the speaker and only the woofer will be covered with a grill. The woofer that will be used is Bob Crites cast woofer. Cornwall/cornscala general questions I know that the port in the cornwall is of a shelf type with 3 port openings are the spacers in between the ports relevant to make it act like 3 individual ports or does it just act like 1 big slot port What I am looking for are some opinions and advice on what to do the space between the ports will be 1” so each port will be 6.75 wide but how high should I make it. Right now I am going with 2.5 which will give me a port area of 50.625 sq in if I go with 3 separate ports Should I just go with two 1” dividers on the front of the port to make it only one shelf with the look of 3 separate ports? tuning frequency what would you go with this is and open question it does not half to be the same as the cornwall could be a personal preference right now I think I will go wit 37 Hz. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated
  6. here is my heritage centerchannel link http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/103089.aspx i did k400/55x ? not v k77 and 2 k24 ported I really enjoy the sound that comes out of it in my shop there is no home theater room for it yet or aplace for it but if i build it it will come. Nomad02rider has heard it he was impresed at the output especialy in the low end. This design can be simplified for esier construction i just went all out with it.
  7. I thought of makeing a set of clear plexiglass ones kinda like the plexi Khorn ones. I knew of a place in south florida that could get 3/4 plexi for 120 a sheet a few years back but i dont know if they are still there or if price went up. wish i had the time to do this. Your project i dont know how the diiver elements would hold up to the humidty especily the paper woofer cone wouldnt recomend it for that one.
  8. yep thats about where i was going with that idea mostly ftom the hf section pointed down but from the back would work too. I really wish i had plexi ramps in mine. i would really like to show off my exotic wood on my LS in low light. If i ever do this there will sure be a pic to follow
  9. Ive been wanting to do this for a while and wish i would of thought of it when i was building my lascalas. I have always wanted to light up the dog house my first choice was to use small leds and make a small hole and drill it till just befor th bottom of the back ramps and light up from the top and bottom of which i can still do. Of course i would need to fill the holes up to prevent the little bit of sound waves from making any sort of noise like a whistle sound or just some kind of annoying sound. Although this brain storm just came to me as i have been thinking or remaking a pair of LS bottoms out of 1" mdf and be able to use different tops so i can try different things in the future. Lets say maybe a corn bottom. having two seperat peices would allow for this. But what i am really thinking is to build the lascalla ramps out of 3/4 plexiglass this way i can feed this area from the back and try out different was of lighting up the dog house. am i the only one that has thought it would be neat to have the lower section glowing in low light?
  10. Build it. Go For It. I Did heres my link to my project if it helps any. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/59662.aspx?PageIndex=1 the only thing i wish that i did was to make the sides 1" mdf ah maybe if i run across som more veneer i will till then i will jusht have to enjoy mine. I would of probaly made it two peice also. i have a pic of how i glued the dog hous when i run across it i will post it
  11. I did not realize that there would be so many posts about this. I wanted a simple answer but more knowledge is always better thanks everyone. Now I will add some of my brain dead input that I have with no proof of fact. If the tweeter cap is in line with the mid cap the value in type e would be 1uf if in series, type A would be 1.73uf if I am correct. I thought I saw some one that said that you could directly connect to input in this case it would be just simple 2uf Type AA would be 3.29uf? How much does each change the xover point? To little to worry? Wouldn’t if I used tap 3 and 4 it be just a parallel connection through the autoformer on the input any way the same as using the same tap or does the resistance value of lets say tap 4 change if 2 speakers are connected to it. [*-)] [*-)] [*-)] [*-)] [*-)]
  12. on autoformers with regards to tap questions can the tweeter and squaker be on the same tap setting or must only one tap be used per speaker. If only one speaker per tap is there anything wrong with using 2 autoformers.
  13. Yes the box is ported with a slot port under the k400 if i have to change the port to a different tuning i can change it i made it so this can be done right now it is tuned around 38hz ish and sounds pretty good but i definetly need the little mor sensitive k28s
  14. sorry for the double post but my comp said it didnt allow double posts and then i view the topic and it did not post so i started again ooops [*-)]
  15. well my first atempt at my speaker grill did not look like i wanted it to as you can see from the pic below So i had to start over an come up with a new idea and this is what i came up with as you can see it definitly makes the speaker look beter at least to me. BTW does anyone know the best way to repaint a k400 to make it look new again
  16. This was my first attempt at my speaker grill as you can see it does not do it justice I was not happy with it so I had to come up with a new idea And this below is what i came up with. to me it just make the speaker just look more elegant than the plain old square black grill sorry for the smuge of dust on the grill. You have to love the temp. speaker stand BTW does anyone know the best way to refinish the k400 to new black paint and what paint should i use I thought i had some internal pictures on this camera but i guess i forgot to take thoes pictures yet.
  17. just an update to the project. I am almost done with the build. i had to take a few days off from it i wasnt happy with the look of the black grils i made for them so i took some tim to ponder a new idea. If my plans go well this week i will have them done and be able to post some finished pictures up soon. still need to get new woofers first. K-28 is the winner in my choice of driver for this project. also thanks for all the comments
  18. happy birthday Bob best wishes to you have a great one
  19. The veneer that was used for both project was pomele sapeli. I am just glad that i getit for free it is a lot of $$. As for the lascala how i glued the inside pieces it was on a industrial press that presses full sheets of veneer on to plywood. I have acess to this with the company I work for. We do not sell to the general public. we only deal in large quantities. I have an example in my project lascala post from some time ago and no they are not fully done yet still nees xover and woofers BEC will be gettin my business soon and if funds are good so will ALK. Here is the link to the lascala build http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/59662.aspx?PageIndex=1
  20. Yes it is a monster. On Monday my grill cloth arrives with the grill pins so I will be able to finish up the front until I decide on which woofer to go with. As far as sound is concerned it sounds really good to me but I have to tweak it a little. I am using a heresy type e xover right now and still deciding on how I want to set up the network. Right now the only way I have tried it out is at my jobs shop which is a large production warehouse. Needless to say there are a lot of echoes but it does have a real live sound to it. Some times I can get the 12s to bottom out as this is being tested only as one channel of a stereo setup I don’t think I will have to worry about that as a center channel use but that is why I am considering using different 12s. Believe it or not I have no place to use it right now so it will be used as my shop speaker or I will put into my storage shed till I get my own place to live. I don’t build things for my today I build it for my future so I have my dream in the future. The main plywood is Quilted Pomele Sapele or as my shop calls it just Pomele Sapele. The accent edges are cherry wood. Just in case if any one asks. Thanks to all that have posted with compliments and to all that will post in the future.[] her is a pic of my mains all matching veneer inside and out except one panel []
  21. This is my interpretation of a heritage center channel. I originally got this idea in my head because I started to get bored and wanted something to build and the attached picture is what I ended up with. Then I started searching for heritage center channel in the forum and found every ones thoughts on it and I realize that I was not far off in my plans, but found none built with 2-12s built like a traditional center channel. I originally started out with a box that had 2 12s but was not happy with the plain black box that I built so I built a new better one to match my main lascalas. What I ended up with was a box 14 tall 48 across and 25 deep. This box sits on a stand which makes the top of the box at 30 inches with feet attached. I will probably build one more set of risers for my stand so I have 2 options as to the height I want it to sit at. My box is (from my memory) is 7cuft and tuned around 38 Hz. My box also has interchangeable woofer plates that can accept a speaker as large as 12.75 in diameters. Right now it is using a k24 temporarily. My project is not yet finished but I thought it has finally reached a point that was worth sharing with fellow forum friends. I originally posted in technical about which 2 12s I should go with and haven’t got any response. If anyone reads this one and has any input before I make a choice it would be much appreciated http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/102889.aspx [] [] []
  22. Help with a center channel driver selection please. I am building a heritage based center channel with k55m w/k400, k77m and 2-12 inch woofers I have the cabinet 90% done need to trim out the front wait for my local wood shop to get in some cherry wood in before I post any pics. My choices would be my unused k22’s, or to order a pair of k28e’s from klipsch. I have a couple of other ideas such as the eminence delta 12lf http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=290-416 , and or Eminence Deltalite II 2512 Neo 12" Driver Eminence Deltalite II 2512 Neo 12" Driver http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=290-593 these would be a few of my choices. My box is 7.66 cuft without any displacement and my port opening is 16.75x1.75 I have it tuned to the upper mid 35-40 hz range and with the k24 it rocked my shop pretty well I’m just looking for a little more. What I am wondering is what would your choice be if you had to choose 2-12” drivers for my cabinet. Any other choices are welcome its just that the max outside diameter has to be no more than 12.75”. Any thoughts are welcome I just want it to blend with my heritage setup I have lascala mains.
