1. heck, considering that it took me years before I dumped my 8 tracks in favor of compact cassetts... even more years before buiying my first CD player (I still play albums for time to time... on my turntable!!)... and even longer before I regulated my beloved VHS VCR to the third string 'computer room' tv in favor of installing DVD players in our living room and 'men's club'...maybe I'll just take a 'wait & see' approach, LOL
2. that's good advice that I also followed when shopping for anolog cables
3. coming from polks myself, I was set to buy a Synergy F3, C3, B3 but intead chose to go the Referance route... Not because I thought so much less of Synergy, I just liked Referance better. As for the subs... Night & Day my friend !! Subs have come a long, long way in just the last couple years, let alone the last 12 since our subs were new... while I think the SW12II is great for most music (I still have & love my old SW10II) you will find it can easily be overwhelmed by action movie sound tracks (war of the worlds had mine smacking the excursion limit harder then a 2x4 hitting your head) & bass heavy techno & hip-hop that the new (and very BadASS, imo) Sub12 easily handles... especially when listening at 'realistic' levels personally, I have been struggling over justifying a Referance series RW12 over the Sub12 and as such have not yet purchased either (I also want to replace some widows in our house before upgrading subs as well since I am bothered by there rattles far to often)
4. I thought the RF-3II was long gone I thought it's the RF-35 replacement...
5. No, but was seriously considering ituntil I opened my wife's gift to me this past Christmas... anyway, I found some time to tonight to play around with the setup features of the Harmony 880 my wife got for me... I now have it working exaclty as I want it to.. this thing really is SWEET! I highly reccomend it
6. one would hope... btw, I would have to go back to the drawing board with regards to the TV / Equipment stand I recently built to hold that beast...
7. boat tail as looked at from above??? if so, all the better for the type of placement I am stuck with in my home!
8. All the better, I actually prefer my tweeters to be on the high side of a seated listeners ear... the dispertion will still cover you just fine when seated, and do much better when standing...
9. I'm interested in the RF35s if the deal is right....
10. My wife got me the Harmony 880 for Christmas (e-bay for $150 shipped) I think I have a little more work to do in programing it as I'm not quite as happy as I thought I'd be... the "fat-Finger" thing is a given BUT: 1. sometimes when I watch reg TV I want to enjoy the sound through my Klipsch speakers (like during an HDTV concert) while most of the time, like for the news, the TV speakers are fine... Can the Harmony 880 be programed for more then one "Watch TV" macro? 2. I don't know how you do it because when I'm already watching TV and push the "Watch DVD" macro, it always shuts the TV off... another problem is that if I already have the dvd player on (to load the disk) then the "Watch DVD" macro shuts it off I don't want to ***** to much because I know I need to update my Harmony 880's programing to address the replacement of my old VCR with a new Comcast (Motorola) dual tuner DVR/cable box but all of this is made a bit more frustrating because to operate my individual componants, I always have to scroll through little used commands to get to the basic ones :\ While I know my budget doesn't come close to being able to afford it, my wish is for a universal remote touch screen remote that truely mimicks each individual componant's remote on the screen, in color, while including a health list of intelligent macro's
11. I just had Comcast take back the CableCard and set up the motorola dual tuner DVR... so far so good!
12. I voted for the Sony... my folks got the same 60" model your considering and it is awesome... the only way I would prefer the Pioneer Plasma is if placement is to be in a bad spot in a room that has a lot of south facing windows which your wife will not let you apply 'treatments' to for dimming during daylight viewing... (that and the price concessions you mention)
13. I wouldn't even consider using the speaker level inputs if your reciever has a LFE or sub RCA pre amp output
14. I have heard the Klipsch Quintet II setup w/ the KSW-12 at a friends house and think that for a small room, small budget system... or where the listener doesn't demand high volume levels in a larger room. It's awesome!!
15. All Time = Farris Beuller's Day Off - I somehow have managed to watch this flick more times then I could possibly count current fav = KungFu Hustle - no doubt about it, where I found kung pow dissapointing to the point of being un-watchable, Kung Fu Hustle ROCKS!!
16. I watched it on Comcast cable on our Sony HD Rear Pro and enjoyed a beautiful picture... I was plenty dissapointed with the way the game went though
17. that fumble scared the crap out of me.... WTG Steelers!
18. 135 mph... Holy Moly, I've drove one of ours from one jobsite down the road about 2 miles to a second site we were doing and 35 mph is PLENTY fast to be driving a backhoe
19. dang... you went and got me pissed off too. I'm just as sure that the prirates will have the movie makers copywrite protection efforts thwarted before the first player even hits the market I want my HDV!!!
20. Better bass? A subwoofer is fed from the pre-amp, not the power amp. Only if your talking about a 'powered-sub' (which I agree, is the only type of sub worth considering) and then, only those freq sent to the sub if your talking about 'mid-bass' (80 Hz+) from his mains, then he may well have a valid point . . .
21. I have had Dells in my house for years and really like them. at work I just got a new commerical grade HP/Compaq that has proved to be fine
22. I have been toying with the idea of purchasing one of these two subs myself... From what I found, the Sub 12 can be had for about $475-550... right there with what the RW 12 can be purchased for. I personally like the appearance of the front firing, copper colored RW12 much better... even with the grill on. while the additional 4dB is significant, I want the best 'musicallity' (if that's even a word) btw, I can hardly turn up my current sub without rattling the crap out of my windows. With that in mind, I think the money in my "Sub-Woofer-Fund" would be best spend on a couple tight dbl pane replacement windows at this time [:@]
23. after the debacal last year, I wouldn't expect to many soldout hotels . . .
