  1. Please let us know what you think of it. Thanks!
  2. Just a friendly reminder bump to my fellow forum members. December 31st is the cutoff of the Emotiva online sale. Thanks to forum member jhoak I was able to pick up my Emotiva amp at an even better than Emotiva sale price! I'm still considering getting their new 7.1 pre-amp.
  3. I'd highly doubt that the surge protection feature would be turned off with the unit itself turned off. It should just turn off the power to whatever you have plugged into it. Easiest thing to do is look at the manual or look online for information on the unit, it should tell you there.
  4. At least with Emotiva you have 30 days to return it but somethings tells me you won't be doing that once you hear it hooked up to your Sony.
  5. I've been very open about the fact that I paid $275 for my near mint Forte IIs. I paid more than that for my new crossover networks and titanium diaphragms. Let's just say if I ever sell my Fortes, I won't be asking $275 for them. []
  6. Awesome. You'll have a home theater setup better than 99% of the population. Enjoy and make sure to stick around - we're always here to help!
  7. Everything you mentioned will lead you in a positive direction as far as performance and sound quality. 1) Center speaker moved higher will put it closer in line to the drivers in your RF-83s (A very good thing) 2) Emotiva amp = big-time upgrade. Honestly, the UPA-5 will serve you absolutely fine and save you a lot of money. My Forte IIs are 99dB sensitive. There was a quantum leap in sound quality at ALL volume levels with my Emotiva UPA-2 that I just got last week. If the top shelf of your TV stand can support the weight, just set your TV on top of your center speaker. Otherwise if you do the wall-mount idea for your TV, think about getting a small stand that will have your RC-64 sitting up another foot or so right in line with the drivers in your RF-83s.
  8. I watched the new Star Trek on Blu-Ray yesterday without my subwoofer. Let me tell you, a properly set up pair of capable front main speakers do not need a subwoofer. I was very, very impressed. (Thanks to my cat chewing through my subwoofer interconnect my subwoofer is out of commission until I order a new cable. [:@] )
  9. You don't need to match the ohm rating of the speakers. It would be a good idea to match the speakers sound-wise though. The Reference series is voiced totally different than the Heresy from the Heritage series. I'd recommend keeping the Heresys and getting something like an Academy center speaker if you want the best matching sound.
  10. A subwoofer isn't a need, but they are nice to have. If you want to stay with Klipsch the Sub-12 is an excellent choice under $500.
  11. Welcome to the forums Marcel! I've enjoyed having floorstanding speakers as surrounds. Gives a very full sound. The RF-82s are very, very nice. The RC-62 center speaker will match very, very well. The RC-64 would be a large upgrade over the RC-62 but I believe the RC-62 is better matched to the RF-82s. If in the future you ever would decide to upgrade you could go with either RF-63 or RF-83 fronts and then you can use your RF-82s for side and rear surrounds.

    LCD TV

In the XBR series the higher the number the newer the TV. Not sure about the letter differences but I do believe the Bravia XBR is their top TV.
  13. All of us have stories such as yours. Its when you find out that its such an easy fix that makes you look back and laugh. Enjoy your new Klipsch!
  14. I was able to listen to the Hotel California disc early this morning before my 8am workday. My wife went to work at 7am so I had a little alone time. This amp is absolutely incredible. I will eventually upgrade to an all Emotiva-based system. I want to get their new pre-amp so bad it isn't even funny. But, if I did that I'd need to get at least a UPA-5 amp to run my surrounds. Oh well, its only money, right?
  15. 1) S-3s. If you're going to go with the 3 series up front, you'll want them for the sides/rears too 2) Dolby and THX (99.9% sure of this) recommend direct-radiating speakers like the B series for rears. 3) Very much so!
  16. At the time I didn't know if an outboard amp would help the stereo performance of the Onkyo. I heard enough people comment on the musicality of Marantz receivers so I decide to jump the Onkyo ship and I'm glad I did. Too bad that the Onkyo has such a killer amp section - an external amp almost seems like a waste with something like an 805!
  17. Welcome to the forums Dave! Don't get too hung up on the watts thing. Hundreds of watts into Klipsch speakers is going to be so loud you probably won't be able to stand being in the same room. Pick the receiver by the features it has, not by its rated wattage. As far as the speakers go, that's really where you want to invest your money wisely since they'll have the biggest impact on the sound over any other piece of equipment that you'll buy. The RF-62 package would be the way to go.
  18. Why I had to get this amp on the week that I work the most hours (70+) is killing me. My wife went to bed about 5 minutes after I got home from work tonight. No chance to crank it up really loud yet. I guess I'll have to wait until Sunday.
  19. For music I'd highly suggest looking elsewhere than Onkyo. I had an 805 for a while. It was awesome for home theater but sucked the big one for music. Everything sounded like it was in mono, virtually no stereo separation. Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, Harman/Kardon would be better choices in my opinion. The Outlaw receiver Dennie posted would be excellent, as well as a Harman/Kardon HK3480 or HK3490. You're better off getting something other than a full-fledged surround-sound receiver if you're not going to do surround-sound.
  20. After having an external amp only one day I can say that it has made a huge improvement in overall sound quality. If you got something like the Emotiva UPA-5 for $499 you will thank me. []
