  1. Doesn't look like the XPA-3 has gain controls. What you can do is bump your fronts to -9 and reduce your other speakers by -3 from whatever they're currently at. If your surrounds are at -5 change them to -8 for instance.
  2. They'll work excellent as surrounds at a reasonable price. Welcome to the forums!
  3. Is this turning into a white supremacist board? []
  4. Well, considering that there aren't any Eagles concerts on Blu-Ray... []
  5. One's better than two, but as previously mentioned the wide dispersion speakers were never intended for center speaker use. It'll be ok temporarily but get your hands on a C2 or C3 as soon as you can.
  6. Yes, use HDMI. I used to use one of the THX modes with my Onkyo 805 and liked them very much.
  7. ??q? uo p??oq??? ? ?nq i ??i? ?s?? ??? si si??
  8. MultiCh I believe is the name of the surround format to watch Blu-Ray discs in the HD audio formats. Actually if you are running a 7.1 HD audio signal into your Onkyo any of the surround formats you choose will work, just select the one that sounds best to you.
  9. Since the 8002 is pretty much the top of the line and nothing much has changed between the 8002 and 6004 model years I'd suggest the 8002. Its going to have most features, most power and best sound.
  10. Look for an RCA output labeled "Subwoofer Output" or "LFE" or "Pre-amp Subwoofer Output" or something like that.
  11. I had the privilege of storing my best friend's KLF-30s at my house while he was going through a divorce. Let's just say I made sure nothing dry rotted. [] I really loved those speakers. He was able to pick his up in 9/10 condition for $500 about 2 years ago. They are huge! I'm the only one who's allowed to move his audio equipment when he moves.
  12. Your wife did that?? Now that's awesome.
  13. Yes. Its a million times better for music than my previous Onkyo TX-SR805 was. Its also excellent at movies. The HDMI connections lose sync once in a while, especially if I go into the receiver's menu while playing a Blu-Ray movie. I have to turn the receiver off then back on again for the picture to show up on my TV. Not a huge deal but I like to tinker around with the menu settings. Plenty of power on tap, although I'm looking to add an external amp sometime soon.
  14. I think Audyssey is better than nothing but I don't rely on it 100%. I believe the Emotiva amps have a gain control so you'll have to adjust that (probably 1/3 to 1/2 of maximum gain) and then re-run your receiver's speaker calibration so that it balances the output to the front 3 speakers to your others.
  15. Yes, its generally a bad thing. Your sub isn't playing a discrete channel like it would be in a 5.1 or 7.1 soundtrack, so its bass is overlapping with your main speakers. In most rooms that will cause cancellation of bass frequencies and actually reduce the amount of bass. If you have a properly calibrated setup where you've adjusted phase, distance, SPL, etc. then you could run your fronts as Large. Otherwise I'd recommend running them as small. Like I mentioned before, set your sub's crossover as high as it can go on the sub itself and set it to 80Hz on your receiver.
  16. It would be a lateral move at best. I would say that your 5.5s will have much more bass output. The overall sound will be very similar due to the fact that they both are Klipsch, both have a horn tweeter and both have dual woofers. If you want to make an upgrade in sound you'll want to go to at least the RF-63 or RF-83, or look into something in the 3-way Heresy, Forte, Cornwall, etc. lines. You shouldn't have a problem finding other KG speakers to add as surrounds and a KV series for center.
  17. Couple suggestions to piggy-back the previous post: 1) Don't use two center speakers 2) Don't use speakers intended as side or rear surrounds as center speakers Move your RS-25s to where your SS-1s are, sell your SS-1s and buy a Synergy C2 or C3 for center. Your ears will thank you.
  18. The Forte, Chorus and Quartet have been dubbed "extended heritage" by some. The Klipschorn, Belle, LaScala, Cornwall and Heresy are the true heritage speakers. I would also recommend the Heresy as center. You could use either Forte or Heresy as surrounds with excellent results.
  19. For the Vikes? Man, not as long as I've been watching football!
  20. Best season I've seen in a loooong time.
  21. Having very power hungry speakers such as you do hooked up to a receiver, even a good one like your 3808, is a lot for it to handle. I think you'll be extremely happy with something like the XPA-3. Before Emotiva ends their holiday sale I plan to get one of their amps. I've never heard anyone that's regretted getting one, other than they wished they had done so sooner. BTW, welcome to the forums and killer setup you have there!! []
  22. Instead of the KLF 8.5s I'd recommend Reference speakers such as the RF-52, 62 or 82. The KSF 8.5s won't be a terrible mis-match but if you to RF series for front mains then you'll have an all-Reference setup.
  23. I highly doubt you'll be satisfied by the bass from a bookshelf speaker after you're used to bass from a 12" woofer in a floorstanding speaker. Adding a small sub hidden away will help. Show your wife some pictures of others' setups on here, preferably with Khorns and Jubilees. Maybe then she'll see that your Cerwin-Vegas aren't so big after all. [] The new Reference series towers will put out excellent bass. If your budget allows for RF-82, 63 or 83s they'll provide much more bass than a bookshelf will. The new Reference series towers are also narrower and less obtrusive in a room.
