  1. Blu-Ray discs have a very high dynamic range so that peak volume scenes are capable of being played much louder than scenes with normal volume such as talking. After you run Audyssey you can go into the Graphic EQ menu and change the EQ frequencies to your liking. The results menu won't let you do it but after you save the results you can change them.
  2. I had an HK3480 back when I had a two channel setup and it was awesome with my Fortes. Had a ton of power and sounded great at all volumes. The HK3490 is a newer model of the 3480. I would recommend the H/K over Onkyo for two channel performance.
  3. Actually the normal output for the PS3 with CD audio is 48kHz but it can be set to output up to 176.4kHz. I used my PS3 as a CD player for a very long time and never found it lacking in CD performance. I have the audio going through HDMI to my receiver. I only recently started using a separate player for CDs since its more convenient than using the PS3 and doesn't have the fan noise of the PS3.
  4. How high do you have the subwoofer's volume level at?
  5. So last night at work I asked my co-worker who is a big Steely Dan fan "So, if I were to say to you 'No static at all' what would you say" and he replied "FM?" I just laughed. He said its one of their more popular songs and that I'd probably know it if I heard it. I listened to a clip on iTunes and recognized the song right away.
  6. MistaChy, what JChapman was referring to is running two separate pairs of main speakers. It will in almost all cases cause cancellation in certain frequencies. The end result might be slightly louder output but the overall quality of sound would actually be worse than with a single pair of front main speakers.
  7. Efficiency in a speaker means that the higher the number the louder the speaker will play with less watts going into it. Its not uncommon for speakers to have efficiency ratings of under 90 decibels. If you look at Klipsch speakers they generally run in the 95 to 102 decibel efficiency range. That means with roughly one watt going into them they will output their rated decibel amount (95 to 102 decibels or so). That being the case, under most circumstances your receiver will probably be putting less than 20 watts into the center speaker, even turned up very loudly. The 806 will power the RC-62 very nicely.

    Bi-Wire

Please refer to page 38 of your user's manual to see how to properly bi-amp them. Using A and B channels is not how you want to do it.
  9. If you're looking to bi-wire your RF-82s, do NOT use both your A+B channels to do it unless that's how the Marantz was designed to bi-wire (which I'm 99.99999% sure it isn't). Either run two cables from the SAME output of your receiver or utilize the two Surround Back channels which are how most receivers are designed that are set up to bi-wire. I don't want to sound rude and I know your money is your money but by your recent threads it seems that you don't really care how much money you're throwing at your system. If you take your time and do some research you'll be able to invest your money into things that will really improve the quality of your system and not have to resort on throwing something together and then spending more money on upgrades immediately after. Example: Many people think the idea of having two center speakers is a good idea. What they don't realize is that two speakers receiving the same signal can cause a phenomenon called comb filtering, resulting in certain frequencies being cancelled out or played much quieter than other frequencies. The end result is that the sound is actually worse than if they were to just use one single, capable center speaker.** **Think about the above example when you're thinking of connecting two pairs of main speakers that are outputting the same information. 10. Decent deal. Also will depend on how long your wire runs are: Speaker Impedance 8 Ohm Load 4 Ohm Load Wire Gauge Distance (ft) Distance (ft) 18 AWG 10 5 16 AWG 20 10 14 AWG 35 18 12 AWG 60 30 10 AWG 100 50
  11. It depends on the wire gauge. Looking at monoprice they have a 100ft roll that's 12AWG CL2 in-wall rated for $28.35. I'd say that you got a good price.
  12. Monster Cable isn't bad cable, its just generally thought of as being way overpriced. I have a combination of Monster Cable and cable from monoprice in my system. A lot of the Monster Cable is stuff I bought years ago when I thought it was the cat's pajams and a lot of it is stuff I got for free with other electronic and speaker purchases. I wouldn't ever turn down Monster Cable if it was free. []
  13. Since I almost always exercise at night I usually have a glass of milk mixed with a teaspoon of glutamine powder an hour before I exercise. Sometimes I'll have a couple whole wheat crackers with peanut butter on them. After I exercise I have a few glasses of water mixed with a big scoop of fruit punch flavored creatine. Eliminating eating after 7pm was one of the big factors to me losing 35 pounds in a month and a half. I used to eat an entire meal or down half a bag of potato chips at 10pm. I still get hungry late in the evenings and generally I just drink water. Probably not the suggestions you were looking for, but oh well. []
  14. If you run Audyssey it will equalize your new speakers to your fronts as you've described.
  15. So I re-adjusted my goal and I am trying to be at 170.0 pounds. Last week I lost .5 pounds bringing me to 177.0 and this week I lost 3.5 pounds bringing me to 173.5! So now my official weight loss is 35.0 pounds since April 1st. I ran the other night for 3.22 miles without stopping once. The air temperature was perfect. I ran a couple more times after that and it was much hotter and more humid and I just couldn't catch my breath and had to stop and walk a few times. I'm getting some huge muscle definition in my arms and legs. Still working on the old belly, although there's definitely less fat there than there used to be. My wife said I've become the diet/exercise Nazi. [:$]

  17. I'd say $1400 is a good deal. Not a screaming deal, but a good one nonetheless as long as they are in good condition. If I were you I'd use your RF-25s as rear surrounds and the RS-7s as side surrounds. That would give you one amazing home theater!
  18. Ah, sorry. I don't know Steely Dan very well. A co-worker is a huge fan of theirs, he would have got it. I have it hooked up to my main stereo now and it really sounds great. Older gear really is fun.
  19. FM I meant from the volume knob. I've had older gear that have had lots of static when you turned the volume knob or other knobs.
  20. I hooked it up to my wife's boombox that has an AUX input to test it out just to be on the safe side. The stereo indicator on the front is really cool. I had an old FM antenna that I hooked up to it and it pulls in stations really well. The volume switch is super quiet, no static at all. Currently listening to "Shooting Star" by Bad Company on our local classic rock station. I can't really appreciate how it sounds on my wife's boombox so I'm going to go switch it over to my Marantz. It is really cool to see the tubes with their soft glow.
  21. Last week I delivered a pair of speakers I sold and as a thank you was given a Dyna tube powered FM tuner. Its stamped "Dynatuner - Model FM-1" I thought it was a super nice gesture on his part. I'm going to hook it up tonight and see how it sounds. Who knows, this just might be the start of a long adventure down tube lane...
  22. I had a pair of Synergy SS.5s for a short while as side surrounds and I can tell you that when I switched to RS-42s it made a HUGE difference in the sound you describe that you're lacking. If you'd rather stay with the Synergy series to match your front speakers I'd suggest the KSP-S6s as they are very similar to the current RS series.
  23. Today (and most days at work) I had a whole grain bread sandwich with tons of romaine lettuce and three slices of deli ham, a piece of string cheese and an apple. Sometimes I'll have turkey or chicken instead of ham and a banana instead of an apple. I've been eating that for lunch/supper since April 1st along with a bowl of Kashi Go Lean cereal and an apple/banana for breakfast. On the weekends I'm a little more lenient of what I eat. Those foods, along with running/weights/cardio has helped me lose 31.5 pounds since April 1st.
  24. You could easily sell the RS-42s for $300 or so on eBay and use the money for some reference in-ceiling speakers. In a 5.1 setup the surround speakers are designed to be placed to the side of your listening position rather than behind or above you. 7.1 adds two rear speakers behind you. If you mount your RS-42s on the side walls and they will end up almost even of the listening position as you've said, that's actually the recommended placement. Also, in my opinion, a good 3.1 setup would be better than a compromised 5.1 one.
  25. Umm, something tells me that a thread from EIGHT YEARS AGO isn't going to be replied to! []
