  1. Ending in a couple hours!! []
  2. +2 for Pomp & Pipes. If you've got a capable sub it will shake your rafters loose!
  3. 'Nuff said! That's the most depressing comment I have heard yet! What's wrong with a drummer who likes Klipsch? [^o)]
  4. 1) Frequency response: Ideally a speaker should measure as close to 20 Hertz (Hz) and 20 kiloHertz (kHz) within a 3 decibel variance (+/-3dB) as possible. This way the sound will play at the same loudness from the lowest bass to the highest treble. Once a speaker is set up in a room there are a lot of variables that will affect how 'flat' of a response the speaker will play, though. **When I say ideally, what I mean is that if someone is using the speakers without a subwoofer. If you're using a subwoofer its ok to have a speaker that is rated +/- 3dB down to whatever the highest bass frequency your subwoofer will play (generally around 80Hz). 2) Sensitivity is where the higher the number the better. The higher the speaker's sensitivity, the louder it will play with the same wattage input as a speaker with a lower sensitivity. Its very common to see speakers in the low 90s or high 80s for sensitivity. If you look at Klipsch's speakers, most of them will be rated in the mid 90s up to over 100dB. The lower the sensitivity the harder your amp has to work, the higher the sensitivity the easier it is on your amp. **Differences in the ohm rating of a speaker will affect how hard an amp has to work, too. For instance the now discontinued RF-7 speaker from Klipsch had a minimum impedence rating of 2.8 ohms which is lower than most amps can handle well. As a result, even though the speaker has a high sensitivity rating, many users found good results by using an amp that outputted 200+ clean watts per channel and was stable to lower than average ohm loads. 3) The high frequency crossover is the top end of sound that the woofers will play and the bottom end of sound that the tweeter will play. In a 2 way system, its good to have a crossover that doesn't cross too high, otherwise the woofers will be asked to play a very broad spectrum of the sound frequency and sometimes midrange sound can seem not quite as crisp as it can in a 3 way system. If you notice, Klipsch has moved down the high frequency crossover point on the new reference series speakers compared to the previous series. Many have said that the midrange sound is sharper and more detailed on the new reference series because of this.
  5. Hardly anyone who isn't into audio will know them. That's true of all of the people I work with except a former co-worker who is a drummer. He was very familiar with Klipsch.
  6. The speakers had been bid up to $761.61. For whatever reason (he/she says 'Entered Wrong Amount) the high bidder retracted their bid a day and a half after they placed it. That caused a chain reaction. The person who was then the next high bidder by default retracted HIS bid, too. Fortunately he emailed me and explained what happened. Apparently once he was outbid he ended up buying another pair of RF-7s through a buy-it-now on eBay. I know his story is legit because I checked his feedback and the items he bid on and one of them is for a pair of RF-7s that he bought the day after he was outbid for mine. So now they sit back at $494.99, but 59 people are watching the auction in their My eBay section and there's been over 900 visits to the auction.
  7. Actually Roy it was: happy birthday michael!! Roy In response to the Happy Birthday Michael thread back in '05.
  8. My best friend and his wife separated last July and she recently started divorce proceedings. He really wants to get back with her, but after all that she's done to him since they've been separated its hard to understand why. I guess after being with someone over 11 years your heart grows a fondness that even extreme decisions and actions can't destroy. Its been very hard to see him getting more and more depressed, especially since she's restricted his visitation to his kids to 1 weekend every other week. They're about 8 and 13, both boys. They need their Dad. I'm very sorry that you're involved in a similar circumstance.
  9. I'm taking delivery on a new pair of RF-25 speakers in a few days. I've read a little bit about how new speakers sound better after they've been 'broken in.' Can anyone enlighten me on the best way to do this? Also, if anyone has any advice as to the best placement (distance from front/side walls, toe-in, etc.) I'd appreciate any input! Thanks!
  10. Umm, all in the 2 channel forum? http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/880201.aspx http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/879848.aspx
  11. These are the speakers that have been revealed to be a scam auction. There's 3 threads on these speakers now!
  12. 3rd thread on these! Look for the thread about them being a scam, 'cause they are. []

Dolby Pro-logic is an older surround mode that utilized a center channel, two front channels and 2 surround channels. The 2 surround channels were played pretty much in mono instead of stereo, very different from today's 5.1, 6.1, etc systems that utilize 5 or more discrete channels of sound.
  14. 1) Leave the sub on 'on' all the time. It won't hurt it and you won't get any lag from waiting for the sub's amp to wake up. 2) Adjust the sub's gain control to 3/4 of maximum level and then use your receiver to adjust the sub's output so it blends well with your other speakers. Sometimes if the sub isn't getting a high enough signal it won't turn on. 3) Try using a different cable to see if something inside the cable you're currently using is loose or not connected properly but is jiggled around enough when you unplug and plug it back in that it makes the sub start to work again.
  15. About a year ago, just after I bought them.
  16. Look up Oppo DVD players. You can get their DV-981HD 1080p upconverting player for around $229. They also have a couple other players for $150-$180. Incredibly high reviews and praise for these players.
  17. When I ordered spikes for my RF-7s from Klipsch I think they were only something like 73 cents each!
  18. I hope that my RF-7 auction didn't drive you over the edge to cause you to post what you did. If it did, in my defense I'm selling the speakers in 100% of the same condition they were in when I bought them. I personally value my gear very highly and can truthfully say that everything that I've sold audio related has been sold in the same condition I purchased it in, whether new or used. If damage is to occur to an item, is someone supposed to just throw that item away? There is still value in something that is cosmetically not perfect.
  19. Almost every time I sell something electronics related on eBay I get emails like that. It says right in the auction that I'll ship to the U.S. only! I'd bet that most inquiries like that are from scammers, but I suppose a few are legitimate. I just tell people that I don't have any experience shipping overseas and have no idea what it would cost or what shipping company to use.
