  1. I think it is tres cool that someone can build an amplifier. How long does it take (for somone who knows how[])???
  2. No sub . . . . . that is the answer[] (For music not HT)
  3. No wonder they broke!!!!!!!!! Niel Young plays everything TOO LOUD!!!!!!!! [<)][st]
  4. For more stuff that I can't comprehend http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/gadgets/741/741.html
  5. What does (***) mean in your subject line?[8-)]
  6. If someone OTHER THAN GILBERT wouldn't mind, could you please answer this: "Please correct me if I am wrong but an expensive tube (and $1000 for a tube is expensive!!!!!) can "blow up" just as easily as a cheap tube, right?"
  7. Coytee said 4. "Capable of snapping my pants with bass response" I'm sure this is impossible, unless you are just kidding[A] J.
  8. Coytee said: 5. "Good imaging & all that good stuff." I have been reading about imaging. You cannot get imaging, period, with your speakers inside and you outside! J.
  9. Thanks guys. So different amplifiers partly because solid state is easier? Do you really have to watch tube ampsifiers so they don't "blow up"? All amplifiers use to be tube I think and the world is still here!!! WISCONSIN OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. The measurement will vary depending on who makes them, the lighting, and their mood at that precise moment in time[][]
  11. I would like to know that too!!! I assume it is a guesstimate and isn't quantifiable.
  12. To hopefully offer clarity to the above, "artto" said the Crown does not hold a candle to the Luxman(s). I do not have an opinion because I have not heard either so this is not my opinion. I understand if one person likes one and not the other and someone else vice versa but not one person liking one and not the other in compare but keeping both. Why? Why do people want to have all the extra trouble? Is it just collecting????
  13. Does it bother you to go back and forth with your different amplifers with the Luxman(s) sounding so much better I don't know why you would want to use the other ones at all if they don't hold a candle to the Luxman(s). Does not make sense IMHO.
  14. This seems wise. I do not know personally but like real music is what I want. Sometimes real music can be harsh, if you've ever heard a live trumpet in a club . . . . . . . Of course not all music should be harsh but I wouldn't want that trumpet to sound mellow.
  15. I just fell into mine by chance. I do not have any obsessed with them other then I love their sound (Heresy).[] J.
  16. That review is not positive. It says it has bad bass and shrill midrange if you turn it up. Why would anyone want it even though it is cheap for a new amplifier.
  17. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a light bulb burn out in a lamp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you know what a lamp is?????????????? I guess I should know if I have a tube amplifier or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. YOU are the one who is WRONG! My stereo does not use tubes. If some one spends $8000-$9000 for enough tubes for an amplifier (be it power, pre or integrated) he has more dollars than sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I just want to say that I am NOT against engineering and technical things at all but just can not follow what was being said and wondered if there is any easy summary of what this means to an ordinary person listening to music. "Real Life Application" in other words. Thanks, J.
  20. I am not allowed to discuss religious matters as per request from moderator but I must say that I agree about religion is absolute. Meaning one religion (I won't say which one) is absolutely right and the rest (I won't list them) are false religions. I also agree with you and someone else who says/said that it is most important to listen to musical equipment in conjunction with your own other musical equipment. I always seek to expand my knowledgeable horizons but not when it means kowtowing to a strongly persuasive arguer only and ignoring my education and life's experiences. Regards, Julie
  21. Please correct me if I am wrong but an expensive tube (and $1000 for a tube is expensive!!!!!) can "blow up" just as easily as a cheap tube, right? I sometimes put a brand new light bulb in a lamp and it "blows up" as soon as I turn it on. When its' 50 cents it doesn't really matter but $1000 really would matter! My understanding is a tube MAY "blow up" on start up while it MAY last for 10+ years with no problem at all. With the risk involved $1000 for a tube is too much money to risk especially when you need more than one, which you always do J.
