  1. Other than having a similiar pair all I can tell you they sound as you discribed -- fantastic. I think this is particularly true in smaller spaces. I hear folks complain about the bass, but I'm using a M&K VX7 which has a 8" woofer and I have no complaint about the bass. I think you got a deal -- enjoy and keep us posted. ------------------ Bill J. ----- Denon AVR 3300 Denon DVM 3800 DVD Pioneer LD Elite CLD-53 Nakamichi Dragon Cassette Scientific Atlantic Explorer 2100 RCA Home Theater Hi-Fi VCR RCA 25" Colortrack 2000 (1974) Rega Planar 3 Turntable -Elys cartridge Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Heresy Mains RC-3 Center Channel KSP-6 Rears M&K VX-7 Sub

  3. I just purchased a used Rega Planar 3 turntable. I have not listened to vinyl in over 3 years and had forgotten about how dynamic records can sound in comparison with CDs. Fortunately I never considered dumping my 200+ recordings. Revive the Dual with a quality cartridge or find a used Rega and enjoy those records again. You will not be disappointed. ------------------ Bill J. ----- Denon AVR 3300 Denon DVM 3800 DVD Pioneer LD Elite CLD-53 Nakamichi Dragon Cassette Scientific Atlantic Explorer 2100 RCA Home Theater Hi-Fi VCR RCA 25" Colortrack 2000 (1974) Rega Planar 3 Turntable -Elys cartridge Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Heresy Mains RC-3 Center Channel KSP-6 Rears M&K VX-7 Sub
  4. I'm using Heresys as mains coupled with a RC-3 center KSP-S6 for rears and a M&K VX-7 sub. I have no fault with this arrangement. My Heresys are 1972 vintage. They sound terrific particularly in my rather small room. No, not at this time, I only receive digital sound from cable broadcasts in my market area. I am aware of one local station that HDTV capabilities, but I have not watch any of the broadcasts to see if I would even get a digital signal. I think I need more equipment than what I have. ------------------ Bill James

I have a Denon AVR-3300 and a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2001 cable box that has a coxial digital output. When Denon set to Auto, the receiver switches between Dolby Logic and Dolby Digital depending on the signal. All movies on HBO, Showtime and Max are being broadcast Dolby Prologic, however I have gotten an occasional Dolby Digital signal. The Denon 3300 has only one coaxial output for this purpose which I am utilizing. The sound is terrific. Bill J. ------------------ Bill James

Ross I totally agree with Ross, placement is very important. I have my Heresys placed in corners slighly canted toward the middle. I do not have a problem with bass response, although they are augmented by a small M&K VX-7 sub. This sub has a single 8" driver. My room is also small 14 x12. I have plenty of bass. Not sure what you are looking for in bass, but the Heresys come through in this arrangement for both movies and music. If your room allows experimentation try that first. ------------------ Bill James
  8. D-man, you might try adjusting the volume on your VCR when in analog mode. I found that I can adjust the volume in analog mode using my VCR or TV remote, however this does not affect the volume on the digital side. I have to use my receiver remote to adjust the volume for the digital output. When I switch between analog and digital my volume is left as it was set previously. Bill J. quote: Originally posted by willjam: Hi Boa, I think I solved my problem. I disconnected the cables from the TV to the Denon and re-connected those cables to the SAE cable box. I also found out that to have stereo sound on the analog channels, my VCR has to be on. This makes sense the DACs in the receiver does not know what to do with the analog channels so I get analog sound. So here is how things are hooked up now: Audio cables Digital cable from the SAE to coaxial input on the receiver -- receives digital output from the SAE Analog outputs from the SAE to analog inputs on the receiver -- receives analog stereo output from the SAE VCR analog connected to an analog inputs on receiver --receives analog output from the VCR. I also here a swift to the center speaker occasionally. I have no controls on the remote that allows me to switch between digital and analog. The receiver is set to AUTO, so it does this automatically. Bill J. ------------------ Bill James

Bill J. quote: Originally posted by boa12: w-jam, what i do is run the 2 analog audio outs to the vcr/tv audio ins, then run the tv variable audio outs to the receiver's 2 TV analog audio inputs. looks like your 3300 has one coax dig jack so my guess is u connected that to the digital audio out of your box & u should then assign that jack to the tv as long as your 3300 allows that. then hopefully your 3300 will auto receive whether it's a digital or analog signal or it has an analog/digital (a/d) switch under TV on the remote to allow u to choose (mine has that latter). ------------------ Bill James
  11. Boa, I think I follow you, but when you say set the TV up as an analog source which inputs jacks do I use to do this. As I understand you: SAE 2000 cable box audio out and video out to DBS/TV on the Denon TV would go where on the Denon. I have no corresponding jacks left other than VCR 2 Thanks quote: Originally posted by boa12: wj, u may want to try some of the other sound modes for the non-5.1 digital broadcasts, like i use dolby a lot for those. some even prefer 5 channel stereo. w/ the denon, actually u may want to set up the digital cable under it's like dbs/cable & plug the boxes 2 analog audio outputs into those inputs for tv. then set up the tv as an analog source in the denon (& dbs/cable as a digital source to the corresponding coax jack). then all u'll have to do is switch from tv to dbs/cable input when u go from an analog station to a digital 1.
  12. Hi Boa, I just upgraded to digital cable with a SAE box and have the coaxial digital output connected to the digital input on my Denon 3300. I'm getting digital reception on some of the program mostly Dolby Prologic, but I have gotten a Dolby Digital program on Showtime. However, all other broadcast sound really bad. I do not have the analog jacks of the box connected to my receiver. I not sure were these should be connected. My TV presently is connected to the DBS/TV jacks. If I want to connect the analog jacks to the receiver, where do I connect these? Bill J. quote: Originally posted by boa12: mike, great sys. & u even have the SAE 2100! i may have to call to upgrade & yea you're all digital sound capable for those dig channels. hook your SAE dig out to the dig in(coax) of your denon (i think that has at least 2 coax ins if u need it). you'll need to assign that input on the denon to whatever device on the remote. i use tv. & for in tv i just use the auto input mode mostly, though sometimes i'll change that to dolby or 5 channel stereo. as long as it's a 5.1 sound broadcast, like showtime has for some movies, you'll get 5.1 digital output. yet to see a DTS broadcast. u can still hook the box up which ever way to the tv or vcr/tv so that you'll get sound out of the tv for the analog channels w/ the receiver turned off. what i do is also run the twin analog plugs from the SAE audio outs to the vcr/tv audio ins, then run the variable audio outs of the tv to the tv analog inputs of my receiver. that way i get sound from the tv if by far chance the receiver is turned off & when the receiver is on the volume control of the tv will also control the volume output by the receiver. but u can only directly control digital input volume w/ the receiver volume control (well u can control the fixed audio level from the SAE in it's set-up functions). works real well for me. ------------------ Bill James

  14. Jot, appears you are on the right track, but please explain about the reference levels being loud. How loud are you playing your system? My RC-3 really plays no louder than my mains. The sound is what I would consider seamless which is the objective you want to reach. I think I'm fortunate considering that this speaker was not intentionally designed for the Heresys. Bob is correct, the Radio Shack Sound Level meter is a 'must have'. Bill J.
  15. Jot, I'm using a RC-3 with Heresys and to my ears it is almost a perfect match. I have it set to small and my mains set to large. I also have a Denon AVR-3300. I'm commenting here because when I purchased the RC-3 my concern was mismatching the center with my mains, but this has not been the case. My suggestion here is to get a sound pressure meter from Radio Shack and calibrate your system and see if you still have a problem. ------------------ Bill James
  16. 2 channel stereo is wonderful on a Denon. You will also enjoy 5 channel stereo as well. But if you are a purist then the direct sound mode is the way to go. You will hear every bit of sound on the recording. Of course as everyone here has suggested, listening is the 'proof of the pudding'. I have enjoyed my 3300 immensely. Best of luck in your search. Bill J.
  17. Jeremy,I have a RC-3 and I am not using the riser, but I don't have the hole filled in either. So I believe there is some other problem here. Before you filled the hole in your speaker, did you hear the noise? Bill J.
  18. All I can say isWOW. I'm really bummed that I did not get an opportunity to hear you in person while I was on the KFC Tour. Hopefully, that will happen on our next visit. The best of luck to you Matt, you have a great talent and it is a great song. I think the whistle makes the song. Bill J
  19. This guy that I work with thinks that all Hi-Fi sounds the same. There is no amount of reasoning will change some people. This is a hobby that I have had since highschool. I am still working on my ultimate system, but I too question my sanity about spending money on it and I do not have a WAF to contend with. Only just recently has the quest for great sound reared it head. I have surpress that desire for the last 10 years. Bill J.
  20. Congratulations - I also own a DVM-3700 and think it is a terrific player. My only complaint is that this unit does not play CD-Rs or CD-RWs. The picture and sound quality is superb. I do not know what would be gained with progressive scan. I am playing mine through a 1985 25" RCA 2000 Monitor-Receiver. This set still puts out a terrific picture. The sad thing is that it is a 25 incher. Enjoy your new Denon! Bill J.
  21. Terrific pictures Doug and very nicely captioned. I'm glad you got so many at the Klipsch home. Bill J.
  22. James, thanks for sharing. Your post is hilarious. I'm going to share this with my dealer. Bill J.
  23. Can you post a picture, not that I personally will be able to identify them. I am curious as to what they look like. Bill J.
  24. I would leave them natural if you plan on selling them at a later date. I though I would never part with my Heresys. Bill J.
