  1. All it might need is some new caps. That amp is long in the tooth.
  2. Cornwalls...accept no substitute!
  3. What kind of wood did you use? Can we see a picture of the bottom of the crossover? Looks like you ran wiresunder and through.
  4. Maybe they are still sleeping? Must have been a long night![C]
  5. I have owner and service manuals. Just e-mail me and I can send attachments.
  6. I'd lean toward the Outlaw 990 or 970 plus one of their amps. They have a generous upgrade policy when the new product with HDMI comes out.
  7. To be a little contrary, I prefer a C2200. It will hold its value...and blue meters........ Those blue meters are mesmerizing! I'm a fan of Mcintosh and the C2200 is a great pre and I would Love one (in the way I'd love a porsche )... but the sticker on those are like $4500 and used $3200 and if my math is correct it will hold 70% of its value.......BBXII $1700 new and $1200 used....about the same 70% I don't have the BBX yet ,but have heard them and they are wonderful in most systems....BBXII will be my next major purchase and i could swing the C-2200, but why??? Porsche's are terrific cars. Insurance is a little high. I was able to get over 30 mpg with my 944 (Metallic Sapphire....). Course the BBXII reminds me of the Mazda RX-7 (a Porsche starter kit)[].

  9. My understanding is they are redoing the covers...you will note erronious numbers on the Doors mono cover. Split covers because of shipping, noisy pressing, etc. Rhino took them off the market and is apparently reprinting the covers and repressing the LP's so they are perfect. All of us who have the somewhat less than perfect sets will need to write Dr. Rhino for replacements (all you need is your receipt) plus for the inconvenience they will also send you a 7-inch vinyl "Light My Fire" single (mono/stereo). "Dear Doors fans, As some of you know, the recent release of The Doors Vinyl Box Set has been problematic, and so an apology and an explanation from Rhino is in order. While the sound on the LPs has been extremely well-received, there have been some unfortunate problems with the packaging that we are working to resolve. The release of this Box Set has not met the high standards of either Rhino or The Doors, and we are taking steps to rectify this. Rhino sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience and/or disappointment caused by these problems. As a result, Rhino has decided to recall all unsold stock from retailers and wholesalers, and re-supply with stock that is perfect. Additionally, for those of you who have already purchased the Box Set, please contact dr.rhino@rhino.com with requests for replacement for damaged LPs, jackets or boxes and they will be supplied as soon as possible without charge for replacement or shipping. We ask for your patience as we manufacture more jackets, but we assure you that everyone will be taken care of. Additionally, Rhino is making a limited edition 7-inch vinyl "Light My Fire" single (mono/stereo) which we will supply as a free gift to all purchasers of the Doors Box Set who contact Dr. Rhino or www.thedoors.com. Sincerely, Rhino Records Burbank, CA " "Hi, All - I have an update for you: I have just finished discussions with Rhino, and here's what they are doing - They are going to print BRAND NEW sleeves and covers of all seven LPs, all from a different company - Stoughton - which is known worldwide for beautiful, uberquality, archive-worthy heavy-duty high-end printing. All covers will be extra thick, all will be UV-coated individually, and they will be slightly larger to accommodate the weighty 180g virgin vinyl pressings. Rhino is printing 12,500 complete sets of sleeves and covers, for ALL people who request them. DON'T request them now, though!!!! Just wait, and as soon as they are ready, I'll let you know, and you'll ALL receive a complete new set of these Stoughton covers & sleeves for your Box Set, all at no charge to you for the jackets or the shipping. As for those of you who want your box resealed, I'm working on that, but it will definitely cost you shipping both ways, unfortunately. What I'd suggest for those of you who HAVE Box Sets that you have NOT opened, go ahead and request the new jackets/sleeves WHEN I ANNOUNCE IT (not before, PLEASE), and put those WITH your sealed box - then you're all set! For those of you who have already opened your box, stand by, I will try and better your position, but as of now, what I wrote above is all I've been able to get. So far. __________________ Thanks - Jeff Jeff Jampol The Doors Music Co. Los Angeles, CA"
  10. One speaker sanded and now bare wood. Small repair in a corner and some small holes and soon to be ready for veneer. 1.3 hours into project so far. New capacitors on order for the crossover. July 2: Both speakers are now sanded, delamination problem on one of the risers glued and drying, crossovers updated. Total hours: 2.5.
  11. Doesn't matter what my decor is, or what matches my other speakers (which are oiled oak and walnut). I have no place for these speakers, with Cornwall's upstairs and K-horn's and LaScala's downstairs already. All I want to do is fix them up and sell them. Looking to see what the 'market' is interested in as far as finishes are concerned.
  12. The reason I brought up cables is that Sezai Saktanber of SilverFi Cables has generously offered two sets of his RCA interconnects, the Shaman XI and the Phrygian SE for testing. Haven't received them yet, but my curiosity is piqued. Shaman SE 198.- USD. Phrygian SE 249.- USD.
  13. Title is missleading. Here is what I thought you were referring to: Summer concert duds for women!
  14. Someone asked how to make a poll. When composing a new post the 3rd tab has Poll on it. Select Poll and go from there.
  15. Paul didn't think it made a significant difference in the sound. From an engineering standpoint it has something to do with the volume of the cabinet. The Heresy I didn't need the padding, however, the Heresy II did. Klipsch used a different mounting technique for the II's attaching the horns and woofer to the face of the motorboard while the I's were attached at the rear. This could account for the difference in internal volume which the foam padding takes up in the II. Course this is all from memory...YMMV.
  16. From my experience using Waterfall Bubinga on Heresy's, the less busy the grain pattern the better I like it. I am leaning toward Rosewood at this time but am open to all suggestions.
  17. Poll to see which veneer is most preferred. Bloodwood Bubinga, quartered Chestnut, wormed Ebony, Macassar Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry) Lacewood Maple, wormy Rosewood Walnut, quartered Zebrawood I am also interested in other ideas. Keep in mind with a large job like this I prefer the paperbacked veneer. Kind of limits the options. Now if someone knows of some ancient Kurai that is paperbacked...hmm.
  18. Some more. Notice the missing dust cover and tear in the speaker cone. I believe the tear can be fixed with glue. Anyone know of a source for dust covers?
  19. Craigslist haul: 1976 Cornwall Decorators 8P258 & 8P259 Sony CDP-CX250 Carver CT-26V & WM200t
  20. Looked at these cables and found something that seemed fishy... Furutech Nano Liquid http://www.vhaudio.com/contacttreatment.html. Never heard of it but thanks to Google found it contains Squalene Oil. Now I know something about oil having spent ten years in the business but never heard of Squalene Oil. So back to Google. Turns out it is shark liver extract http://portalmarket.com/shark.html. So we treat wire with shark liver extract to improve the contact. I knew it smelled fishy. At least they don't use snake oil!
