  1. That MTX jackhammer doesnt look like it performs very well for its size. On pimp my ride (tv series) they put one in the back of a car and cranked it up....on the db reader they were only getting 100db's at listening position and they were all sitting there pretending 100db's was amazingly loud (shouting at each other stupidly, saying it was moving wax in their ears etc) seems to me it just a sub for showing off with.....wow look at me i have a 21 inch sub, and its bigger than yours.....omg.......for them to pretend that 100dbs was so loud, it musnt output much more.....
  2. My thought is you will be very very happy with the components you have selected [] Whats going to be supplying the juice?

  4. I am going to use 15" shivas as the lowerbass driver for some 4 way speakers im planning to make. I think that its a very solid driver for the moolah. comparing it to the expensive JL isnt very fair [:S]
  5. Lol this has to be the funniest thread I ever read! .......Putting it in the neighbors garage......thats brilliant! And also! I dont think the mouse will be rushing back home now! not after the low frequency punishment you gave it []
  6. trust me, you will LOVE your new setup to be! you will be awestruck! Good Luck []
  7. I know when I blew my tweeter, it just blew (went out of action instantly) now i have learnt my lesson. I also blew a tweeter in a centre channel a while back. It would work fine for the first few minutes of operation, then once the Vc warmed up it would sizzle and crackle its little heart out. All in all i defianatly think you will be able to tell if you have blown your tweeter!
  8. DARKSIDE: 75db at 7hz! wow that really is wierd..... especially with an FS of 34hz! not to mention an Xmax of 19mm........I suppose the only true way to see how a sub performs before you build it is test one exactly the same as the one you are building[] I love doing designs on win isd, but i always take the results with a grain of salt. As Dr Who said, their are many factors that these programs cannot take into consideration. NICKS SIG: oh yeh we are going to have some goooood bass at parties with the 2 15's going now[] should be fun. Also I founf out in the new house we arebuilding we are going to have a loft in the shed (upstairs level with retractable stairs) so Ill have a nice little dedicated listening room....a very big one as the shed is bigger than my current house []
  9. oooops! so i did [:$][][:#] Hmmm I suppose you are right. Although now I have discovered how easy (and not to mention kinda fun) it is to build your own amplifier, i feel I am going to be churning out many more in the next 2 years[] I do have a few amplifiers around the house when I add them up...... 2 5channel receivers, 1 -220W amp, 2- 350WRMS amps (getting finished off) and the HK in my bedroom.....not to mention the behringer on the way[] so now I want to stop buying amplifiers for a while and build my own! I want to build a tube amp, and a small class A amplifier to start with.[8-|] For the record......I cant wait to get this sub ported and fired up!!! If it doesnt perform better than the RW-12 I am going to be majorly pi55ed off! but like you said....its all about the learning......its all about the learning brenny......... (begins to tear hair out in anticipation)
  10. LOL! mine are called "the boys" to! Dont worry about talking to your speakers......it's when they talk back to you that your in trouble []
  11. I always thought that Back EMF was eventually overcome once overloaded? or does this only apply to a inductor being constantly fed power?
  12. ummmm..... I think the middle one is an RW-10, note the cone area to rubber surround ratio. I think I remember seing somewhere that Klipsch used a picture that looked a mighty lot like an RW-10 for the RW-8..... Now i have never seen the lowest picture before though.....Thats a crazy colour setup!
  13. yeh it went something like that.......but its all under control now....i think[]
  14. The sub? Being as young as I am I have no amplifiers laying around the house to be able to test the subwoofer with, unlike allot on this forum that have amplifiers laying about everywhere [H] I am AUS$350 dollars away from paying off my amplifier, so once I have that the fun will begin! I have been able to test it out using a channel off the HK3480 (120W) using test tones (because i thought if i played normal music it would damage the sub? not to mention sound absolutely ridiculous!) to check for any leaks in the enclosure and such. I was happy to say it made things violently move around at about 30hz, and at 15hz my blinds and window were sounding very unhappy indeed. so.......all in all I was pretty happy! (because of such violent movement at 120W)well.....as happy as you can be with test tones any way. And also! I found what I was doing wrong on WIN ISD pro! when I went to calculate cone excursion to help me best tune the enclosure, it said i needed around 2metres travel (linear!) to reach 40hz at 100db...........in the end I worked out that I had the surface of the subwoofer all screwed up......like 8"squared.......[:$] but now that's all fixed I am getting the same results as you achieved.....all-in-all a happy ending. can't wait to get the big boy finished! Regards Brendan
  15. I have gone in and demoed the 82's so many times....and love each and every time! similar to my rf-15's but better in every single way by a lot! I especially love the lack of harshness in the top end when you tweak the volume abit....thats the biggest dowside of my RF-15's.
  16. what do you like about your RF-25's that you didnt like so much with your B&W 602 S3? Both are very nice speakers, although have very different values.....almost as different as can be! I own the Rf-15's (size down from your speakers) using 5.25" woofers and love them. Although on a couple of occasions I have felt tempted to buy a pair of S3's. Both speakers are very good at what they do best.
  17. those TC LMS 5400's must be the most biggest, badest woofers I have ever seen!
  18. "We have seen the future," FCC chair Reed Hundt said, "and it is sharp. And it is crap." []
  19. I walked into my local high end audio shop yesterday to have a chat to the owner and another listen to a pair of RF-82's. low and behold when I took a glance into the front demo room there sat an RT-12d in all its glory (which surprised me greatly because this particular shop is usually very slow to stock new product lines) all i can say is it looks beautiful! allot bigger than it seems in the product pictures. After having a look for a while what struck me the most was the very "peaky" rubber surround, that looks like its built for serious movement! although I didn't have a chance to listen, I will definitely be back there soon for a demo. so my question is, how does this sub perform? does anyone own this sub? better than the RSW-15? I'm hoping it will perform as well as I think from looking at the price tag! I always wanted an RSW-15, but cannot get one in Australia. So if this sub performs better in all aspects ill be very happy! Regards, Brendan
  20. I was just having a nice stare at the magnet structure of the TC........looks pretty nice! what is it? 4inches of stacked magnet? anyway I was wondering if in your car it would be possible to invert the sub in the box? I think this would look verrrry nice indeed! while we are on the topic, what are the downsides (if any) of inverting a sub in the enclosure (magnet facing out) and having the phase reversed?
  21. and last but not least the entire front wall of my *cough* huge *cough* bedroom. It took me at least a good solid 1 years savings to buy all the equipment ( I just let go of an RW-12 ) as it was purchased last year when I was 16 and getting paid less than I do now []. The RF-15's sound very, very good at low, to low-moderate levels (especially at night, sounds so good it makes your skin tingle!) and they make very good bedroom 2-channel speakers. At night (when I really listen properly) I move the speakers further out from the wall. Thanks Dr Who for all your help and advice! look forward to dabbling in the art of making another sub woofer in the near future (hopefully with more of your expertise!)
  22. my RF-15 and sub having a nice one-on-one in the corner. hopefully soon the sub will have a bigger friend to chat with [H]
