  1. I am only 45 minutes from Richmond, VA. I'd love to go listen to them! However, if it is on about the 1st of March, I'll be Wyoming at the time.
  2. We are just getting rain here. It is suppose to get like 60 degrees here tomorrow. Tomorrow, some d[st]mn groundhog is going to get shot. And to think I used to live only 20 miles from Punxy (which, BTW, is also getting plastered with ice during this). The way they parade thet thing around, how the heck is it to know if it saw its shadow and got scared? All I hope is that this mess clears up long enough for me to get out of here to Utah this weekend (although they are calling for snow/rain on Saturday - go figure. Just hope it doesn't start until my flight leaves Saturday morning). I just realized that my flight connects in Dallas! Oh boy, is this going to be whole lot of fun - between the weather and the Superbowl crowds I bet this flight is going to be PACKED. If we get slammed with another one of these monsters next weekend, I may be stuck in Salt Lake City for longer than I intended to, as I connect through Chicago on the way back. As much as I love skiing, it is the only thing that is keeping my sane during the winter. There is a part of me looking forward to seeing nice, sunny, warm days again to go hang out at the river or pool.
  3. Go figure, like three days before I have to leave for Utah, I go and find a pair of 1978 Khorns on craigslist for $1,500. Well, in the unlikely event that they happen to still be there when I get back, I may very well try to ****** them up.
  4. I know you didn't write this yourself, but I just could not resist commenting on this. No argument there. Any good, top quality music, regardless of format, should give you years of enjoyment for relatively very little cost. I can do the same thing on my music server much more conviently than even records. It did suck in the day having to fast-forward or even rewind to get to a specific song on a cassette tape. Would rather just listen to the record and select it that way. Now with CDs and even more so with my music server and its large collection (some 10,000+ tracks) of music, I can have something selected and playing within minutes. Even more so with modern CDs and digital downloads. Amazing that I can carry over a MONTH worth of music in something the size of a cigarette pack. No argument there either. There is just something really cool about looking at that big wall of records and CDs. I can just queue up a big playlist of albums on my server and let'er rip without having to worry about flipping sides, rewinding tapes, shuffling CDs, etc. So are CDs and today, even high-bit rate digital files are proving themselve to be excellent mediums for reproduction (despite what some of the snooty audiosnops may have you thinking otherwise) And on CD, in MP3/digital download, etc, etc. If you want to hear it, there is a good chance you'll find it in one form or another. No argument there, although it just depends on the person's taste in music. I love music, but I cannot stand rap or hip-hop, so giving me the lastest hip-hop recording probably won't endear me to much towards friendship there (unless I can trade it in for the latest Stratovarius album instead). I love to listen to records myself every now and again, but I am not going to limit myself to that one format as some folks on here do. In fact, I am actually finding out that I much prefer the clean, crisp sound that I get from my CDs and my solid-state rig. Still, there is just something cool about putting a record on, dropping the tone arm and watching it spin while the beautiful music pours out for my enjoyment. I do need to eventually get a better turn-table plus get something like a pair of Cornwalls for that two-channel rig I got downstairs in the basement.
  5. Funny - I've been using my S4s going on 6 months now at the gym (and believe me they get some pretty rough use) and i've YET to have a problem with them. To bad you had the issue with yours, but there is no reason to be such a d[8]ck about it. Alright - we get the message - you are not happy. Do you have to post this crap in EVERY thread? Also to add - I've been using my Custom-3s for going on 3 YEARS and again, not a single issue with them at all.
  6. Okay, than what do you suggest I listen to on those long *** flights out west? I sure as hell won't listen to the airplane's "in-flight entertainment" system. Not only that but the gym where I work out plays some of the crappiest music on thier house system - would rather listen to silence than that. Despite all the snooty audiosnobs out there that think otherwise, I find the iPod to be a perfectly fine way to listen to and enjoy music, especially with a good set of Klipsch earphones (assuming that one takes the hearing loss precautions as mentioned above, but then again, the same could be said for those that like to crank thier home stereos up at 120 dbs as well).
  7. "Could please shut the f#*k up for the next 3 minutes and 42 seconds so I can play this next song?" - John Olivia to some fan that would not shut up during a show. "There was no reason to waste the talent of these musicians anymore in the mainstream music world that floods the market today. The way MWC looks at it, if you enjoy our music great, if not, don't listen!" - from Mindwarp Chamber bio.
  8. I had chinese food for lunch so THERE! []
  9. I got so many songs in my collection that I would love to hear on good systems or to show off. For examples that I can think of off the top of my head. Beyond Twilight - For the Love of Art and the Making in its entirety (it is basically one long 42-minute song anyway) Vox Tempus - In the Eye of Time in its entirety, as that is one very well recorded album Spheric Universe Experience - "Dragged" from Unreal The opening track on Guilt Machine On This Perfect Day Fountain of Tears - "Falling" on Fate Project Creation Floating World in its entirety There is just something about listening to well recorded progressive metal on a good system, since there is so much going on in many of these tracks. It takes a really good system to really render it in such a way that is just does not all end up sounding like mush.
  10. SWEET! Going to be a PACKERS and STEELERS SUPERBOWL!!!!!! Still can't believe that both of my favorite teams are playing each other in the Superbowl!!! Now, I got a real conumdrum here - who the hell to root for? As much as it pains me to see myself rooting against Pittsburgh, but I may have to lean towards rooting for the motherland - Wisconsin - and that means the PACKERS!!!
  11. Well, unless the Jets somehow miraculously comes back to life in the second half, looks like I'll get my dream matchup - Packers vs. Steelers! Never thought I'd see this - both of my favorites teams going after each other.
  12. That's cool. I'd love to go, but I'll be in Park City, UT skiing. Do plan on watching the game once I get off the slopes, though - especially as the PACKERS are in it! Now, let's see who the other team will be - GO STEELERS!!
  13. Whoops! Not this year! GO PACKERS!
  14. No worries about you taking that home in your lunchbox! Can you water-ski behind it? The thing will do 30+ knots (actual top speed is classified), so that should be plenty of speed to get up on water skis. Didn't Mythbusters show on an episode that it was possible to water ski behind a cruise ship? That Aegis destroyer (DDG-79 Oscar Austin) will go faster than just about any cruise ship out there. Would hate to deal with that wake, though! [6] Would make hell of a fishig boat as well! []
  15. I've been using S4s for several months at the gym now and have not had any problems what-so-ever with them (knock on wood). I've not noticed any "burn-in" type of thing. Just hook-em-up and listen and enjoy! I am still amazed at how awesome these relatively inexpensive earphones really sound - even after several months. Managed to get several of my friends to go out and buy them as well.
  16. That is really cool! Being an engineer myself, I know what it is like to finally get to release a product to the "world" and how satisfying that is. However, at my past employment, the "product" that I helped to develop was this: However, my current employment, I cannot show the products that I now currently develop as most of it is classified. However, I do empathize with you with regards to RF, though. Still, that is awesome so get to see your "baby" finally go out to face the world.
  17. I just got one of those big-ol roof ariels. I can pull channels in from BALTIMORE with that thing! To bad it is not on a rotory as I could also get channels from Richmond if I could point it the other way. Although my TV has a built-in digital tuner, I have an add-on module for my DirecTV recieverthat allow me to pick up the OTA channels (and they are included in the on-screen guide, plus I can also record shows from them via the DVR just like the ones I get off the satellite). It was funny when I had to call in the DirecTV guys to repoint my dish after we remounted it on the new deck. The guy had no idea what this box was (the AM21 OTA tuner module) I guess he's never seen one or never had anybody request one. I bet nobody knows they even existed as DirecTV would just rather sell you thier local channel package. Also what was funny was when I had all this exterior work done on my house, the guy I was contracting the work out made the suggestion that I should take the roof antenna down. I told "No way in hell I am taking that down! I still use the thing to get the local High-Def channels!" He was like "You could get High-Def over the air like that?" So, I took him into the house and flipped to one of the channels. There happened to be football game on in full high-def and he could not believe how awesome it looked! When remounting the antenna after redoing all the siding, he told me that must've been on of the first one of those things he's put back up in years. Most people take them down as they get cable or eveything through satellite. This particular antenna is probably over 30 years old (I think it went up with the house - it was there when I bought the place some 15 years ago, so I know it is at least as old as that) and I get plenty of high-def channels just fine with it. There is nothing "magical" about the OTA high-def channels and any decent TV antenna should work.
  18. That all I do is wear my trusty ol' Citizen Eco-Drive watch. It has been doing fine for the past several years that I've had it. As much as I'd love to have a Breitling or TAG, the way I beat the hell out of watches, I just cannot justify that kind of money for one. This poor Citizen has been on and in the river, out in the woods, out on the ski slopes and every place in between and still works like a charm. I do notice a little moisture intrusion in it though, so will take to the local watch repair and get that fixed.
  19. Yes, it is totally possible. We do it all the time at work. We got compete Vista systems running off of 8-gig compact flash cards (granted, the install is severally stripped down with a lot of unnecessary crap stripped out).
  20. Yes, the largest one they have are the "Large". As for the foam equivalents, no help here as I've never used those. I personally found the medium eartips to fit me perfectly.
  21. Anti-static wipes - as in something to wipe down the headpones to remove static electricity (as well as help to keep the headphone clean in the first place). As dry as it gets during the wintertime, static electricity can be a real pisser to deal with.
  22. A debuty was held up during a robbory? D[:@]mn! That must be one tough neighborhood you are in! Anyway, I keep a couple of credit cards, as they have come in handy from time to time. I currently don't have any balances on them, but I do use them every now and again to at least show some activity on the accounts. Not to long ago, Capital One yank my Visa card due to the fact that I've not used it in something like 3 years. Oh well, at least I still have a Discover Card and a Chase Visa. One place where I was glad to have a credit card on hand was when I went to rent a car in Indianapolis. I've had the thing pretty much booked and paid for through Travelocity, but there was still some $20 or so worth of "incidentals" that I still needed to pay. By matter of habit, I whipped out my trusy ol' Visa checkcard that I have through my credit union. The lady at the car rental place, seing it was not a actual "credit card" wanted to run a credit check! I was like "I don't think so!". To be honost, I'd rather of just gave them a 20-spot and been done with it, but again, they would not accept cash without a friggan credit check! I am sorry, but I did not want them to run and for me to have to wait, for a credit check when all I wanted to do was pay a $20 bill (not to mention that credit checks can negatively impact your credit rating). Thankfully, I also had my Chase Visa, so to make them happy, I just paid it with that and simply paid off the bill when it arrived in the mail later on that month. I know about the credit fraud as well. The year before last, some jackass in Ft. Lauderdale in Florida helped themselves to some $1,000 of my money. I have no idea how my account got compramised. I remember getting a call from the credit union one morning as I was getting ready for work. I was in the shower when the actually called, but upon hearing the message left, I immediatly logged into my account and sure enough... I called them back immediatly and told them that those are indeed unauthorized charges, especially condering that I've never been to Ft. Lauderdale. These were charges at places like Sports Authority, Publix (which we don't even have in Fredericksburg), and Chili's, types of places that are not typically shopped online. The credit union was really quick on putting the "kabash" on that and refunded the money in my account. They were able to issue me a new card on-the-spot, especially when I told them that I was leaving for Colorado that Friday and really needed to have a card (although I would've used my Chase credit card if I really needed to in the meantime). Still cannot figure out how they ran up nearly a $300 bill at a Chili's! Must've been doing quite a bit of drinking at the bar! B[:@]stard better be lucky I don't find out who it was that did that as I would probably pummeled his *** (like what happed here locally just recently). And go figure that this all happened like days before I was to leave for Colorado on a ski trip. I was staying at the Four Seasons in Atlanta only to forget my GPS unit there! I called them up only to find out that they were just about to call me to let me know they found a GPS left in my room. I told them it was indeed mine. They did ship it back to me. I'll tell you what though, that Four Seasons is friggan NICE, though. Expensive? Oh yeah! And your daughter left the Macbook charger? How about accidently leaving the entire Macbook Pro, like I did once. I was at the airport in Atlanta and I wanted to mail this really nice poster I had back to myself using one of those cardboard tubes instead of trying to pack it into my luggage. Well, I accidently left my notebook computer at the counter there. I was near my gate when I realized, to my horror, that I left a $2,200 laptop! I ran back to that post office. The clerk turned it into airport security. I went and talked to the security and they thankfully had it locked up in a secure place and retrieved it for me, much to my relief. Of course, that is not it either. While taking a flight out to San Francisco from Richmond, I accidently left my iPod on the bus that I was taking from the parking lot to the terminal there in Richmond! I managed to snag another bus and asked the driver if he could radio out and ask if an iPod was found aboard one of the buses that makes the circuit out to the "A" economy parking lot. Much to my relief, the driver of that bus that I was riding from the parking lot did find it and will bring it to the terminal on his next round. I got the names of the drivers and the bus numbers they were driving and went to the customer service desk of the airport and filed a complimentary report. They were really cool about the whole thing and handled it very professionly and courteously. And lastly, I've managed to leave a pair of swimming trunks on board a cruise ship, which I've never gotten back. I did call the cruise line and told them the ship and cabin number and the dates of the cruise that I was on, but alas, never did get it back. Bummer, as that was one of my favorite pairs of swimming trunks. Oh well - it could've been worst, like losing a $2,200 laptop. That is why now, I'll triple check the hotel room before I leave just to be absolutly sure I have everything.
  23. Thanks for the clarification here. I guess what gets my gull sometimes is that some old carmudgeon sometimes gets on here with the idea that unless it is vinyl, using tube amplification, on Khorns, than it is junk and not "true Hi-Fi". To that, I say [bs]. Maybe I am not as anal about formats as others on here, but it seems I have no issues and can easily enjoy listening to an album that I have as MP3 on my iPod through my Custom-3s as I can another album pressed in 180 gram vinyl on a fine turn-table through a very nice set of tube amps and 60th Anniversary KHorns. I guess to me, it is all about the music and less about what the music is playing on. Granted, I do have my limits, though. A $30 boombox gotten on "Blue Light special" is not going to cut it, for example. But, I can certainly understand where you are coming from with regards to Khorns, Cornwalls and La Scalas. After all, it is hard to argue with some 60+ years of nearly continuous production (wasn't there a short span of time where Klipsch wasn't even making any of the Heritage products, only to bring them back as "Heritage" as we know them today?) I personally would like to get a pair of Cornwalls or even KHorns if I can score a pair (As much as I'd love to support the company, but kinda tough to justify spending some $8K on a brand-new pair of KHorns, although I can certainly afford a brand-new pair of Cornwall IIIs - they are actually not much more expensive than what I paid for these RF-7s I have).
  24. That may be my greatest concern with this potential sale. I would hate to lose this "family" that many of us became a part of over the years. Could that mean no more pilgrimages? Yeah, we could do something "unofficial" but still. Believe me, I was extremely upset last summer when my flight to Little Rock got cancelled and prevented me from attending the pilgrimage. For all intent and purposes, I might as well missed my actual family reunion. Still pissed about it to this day. I guess that is why if there are any more in Hope, I am going to figure out a way to get there that does not involve having to change plans (perhaps fly to Chicago and drive down with Mike/'Dr. Who' or fly to Detroit and drive with Glenn/'Picky'). Yeah, in the end, it is only a speaker and yes, my RF-7s will still sound just as good regardless what happens to the company itself, but would hate to see a company that I've really come to admire to end up getting destroyed an become a shadow itself by some short-sighted management at Audiovox (or whoever ends up buying the company) and just put out more "McSpeakers" like any of the other bargain/low-end brands found at Walmart or Target out there. Case in point - I've become pretty good friends with much of the staff at a local radio station (WRXL 102.1 out of Richmond). I fondly remember the whitewater rafting trips we went on, hanging out at Kings Dominion, and even at the ski area where I patrol at (they rented a condo and was doing a "remote" from the ski slopes.). Since Clear Channel bought them out, that station is only a shadow itself. They let all the staff go and changed the format, just becoming another Clear Channel "McStation" . I don't even listen to that station anymore. I just don't want to see the same fate become Klipsch. All I can really do here is just wait and see how this all pans out and can only hope for the best. Regardless, I'll still listen to and enjoy the various Klipsch products that I do currently own.
  25. I am sorry but I have to disagree with this. Would be pretty hard to listen to Cornwalls at the gym, so I have to settle for some of this "i-crap" in the form of Image S4s. Would also be pretty difficult to listen to Cornwalls on the plane as well, thus more "i-crap" in the form of my Custom-3s. Also can't exactly pack a pair of Cornwalls or K-horns in my laptop bag. However, I can easily take a pair of ProMedia 2.0s for such purpose. Yup, more of that "i-crap". I like to listen to my big rig, but I also like to take my tunes with me as well. If I am going to be buying this stuff, it might as well be from Klipsch, where I know I am going to get something really nice for my money from a company that I trust. Yes, Klipsch did start out as one man's vision, and I am glad the company can continue to produce those speakers as a result of that man's vision, in the form of the Heritage series. However, I disagree with the "Nothing since those iconic designs" statement. Seems we are already seeing something built on the RF-7s (look at the re-releases and now the "RF-7 II" model that seems to be getting a lot of good press both here and in the normal audiophile rags). For many folks, the Heritage is just not practical. For example, if you don't have two good corners in a sizable room, Klipschorns are not going to work out too good. Also many small apartments won't take the likes of LaScalas or Cornwalls to good. Yes, the Heresy's could work in such situations. And as much as people like to deny, but there are, unfortunatly, folks that just dont' like the looks and would prefer something more along the lines of the RF-7s. For my particular application, the RF-7s fits what I need perfectly and I can not be happier, even after listening to many a really nice Heritage based setup. As much as some of you "purists" like to believe otherwise, but the Heritage is NOT the "end-all, be-all" when it comes to speakers. Do you honostly believe that Klipsch would even still be around had they not come out and produced all of these other models? Hell, even PWK himself knew that! To be really "pure", Klipsch should've never came out with anything other than the Khorn. However, PWK himself knew that in order to get more models to appeal more people, it was necessary to create others such as the Heresy's and the Cornwalls. Also, just how many speakers does one buy anyway? There are people that have bought speakers over 30 years ago brand-new and still enjoy them like the day they first brought them home! I plan on hanging onto these RF-7s for quite a long time myself. How does the company reach out to such folks and get them to buy new products? Perhaps, like me, these guys want to get headphones as well? Perhaps they want another system for the bedroom? Perhaps they want to get something for the kids to play thier video games on? Perhaps something to use with the computer? So happens that Klipsch makes various products to service all these needs, and delivers the same quality and excellent sound that I would expect from a Klipsch product. Of course, they could find something second-hand, but as was already pointed out, that does not exactly help fund the company that we love so dear and near. Yes, there are going to be those that think that the only "hi-fi" is playing vinyl records on tube-based equipment through Khorns, but for many of us, that is just not practical, especially considering that a lot of what I like to listen to is not even available on vinyl. I do still buy a lot of new music, although none of it is from any of the current mainstream top-40 artists. I will probably still get those Cornwalls that I do want to use on my two-channel rig I have down in the basement. I may just end up bucking up and order a brand-new pair of CW-IIIs instead of trying to find something on the used market (which has been pretty dry around here anyway).
