  1. I received a very nice batch of new and used old stock tubes from Thebes in response to the thread on modding the Jolida 100 CDP. I was and am so excited with the concept of rolling all these wonderful 12AX7s that I have made some very basic mistakes and have not been scientific in the least. I probably have a mild case of ADD as I have not been able to evaluate one change at a time. I started with the Amperex Bugle Boys in the Jolida and was smitten. Next came the RCA 5751s, a variant (less gain) of the 12AX7. This tube was also very nice and I could live happily with those for a long...long time. Then I started getting off track and rolled a pair of Telefunken in the Quicksilver preamp. Then I decided to change out the Raytheon 12AU7 in the pre with a 1956 GE tube from my own supply. Next I changed the teles in the pre to the Bugle Boys and Valvos in the Jolida. Next came Mullards in the Jolida 100 and thankfully I have only the Sylvanias left to roll. Man am I confused[] The Valvos are NOS and will have to be burned in for awhile to give them a fair shake. I think I prefer the Bugle Boys in the Jolida and the Mullards or perhaps the Telefunken in the Quicksilver. There are no bad tubes here just a hyperactive roller....hey Thebes I'm dying to try some Mazda 12AX7s in theCDP if you have any. Just kidding. Man this is fun...next go round I'm going to have to use some discipline[] Thanks again Marty. PS....coming up next...I unhook the QS Horn Monos and plug in the HK 500 and change out the entire front end with OS tubes....whew boy..thats going to be fun. That amp is a wonder.
  2. 60 and 65k...a lttle rich for me but glad you enjoyed the show. Have you heard Palladiums yet?

  6. Dirk.....you really didn't carve up your new speakers.....just kidding right?
  7. So I have to keep this thread open while winchester is smoozing with the elite. Okay bluesboy and I rolled some of Thebes 12AX7 tubes and listened to some Sonny Rollins, EL Harris. Mark Knopfler, American Aquarium and had some refreshments.....Evan Williams Single Barrel Reserve. The system was performing at the top of its potential so no complaints here. Life in the slow lane.....[] I would like a pair of Tannoy Westminsters but for now life is okay.
  8. No Bose for this guy......he didn't even allow shoes inside hs house[]
  9. Nice work Bob.....and welcome aboard!
  10. Very nice room and speakers Dirk.....enjoy[Y] And yes let us know about tweaks.
  11. Morning Ben. You're up early. Yes it looks like we've hit a milestone on JBs thread. Its been a lot of fun for some of us less "technically" inclined to participate and has morphed into something more than a "drinking thread". Thanks guys for all the well wishes to the wife. Julia is an inspiration and has never met a stranger....she can out talk all of us[:#] Hope fini is better this morning. See you guys tonight.
  12. As I have said before Cut-Throat that is one beautiful receiver[Y]
  13. Heck fini.....you're no fun[:S]Seriously....hope you feel better very soon and make a full recovery. Any word on the Verizon interview Ace? No refreshments for me yet......taking care of the wife who is under the weather....pneumonia among other things[] Hope all the regulars here are doing well.....Cheers gentlemen!
  14. There is a thread in Technical Questions about a Fisher X 100.
  15. I also had a problem with a vacumn leak according to the repairman. I told him the symptom was that the saw revved up all the way when cranked and would not idle. He said the hoses were dry rotted and replaced them along with the fuel filter. Said the carb may be bad due to the ethanol but I took it home after he showed me it would crank. I've used it two days and it runs okay. The expensive premixed fuel seems to work well.
  16. Sorry to hear that news fini. Hope the surgeons can get you up and running...pain free. Hang in there.
  17. Yeah I miss the old shop as well. The speakers do sound great as do the LS clones bluesboy built for me...again using the 511/902 combination. My xovers are a bit different and are an Al Klappenberger design. Good to see these "old" pics again.
