  1. Although I'm not interested in buying new speakers anytime soon, I've been emailing audioreview.com's webmaster to post Klipsch's new Reference models. I just love reading reviews on Klipsch speakers - go figure. On the RF-7's first review, Gary from UT rates his mains with a mere 8 out of 10 stars. Seems the big 7s lightened his pockets a little too much. http://www.audioreview.com/reviews/Speaker/product_88062.shtml P.S. No review on the new subs, surround, or center yet. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-16-2002 at 02:56 PM
  2. Well, I can't draw any comparisons because this is my first DVD-A and I don't have an older version of this classic rock album (CD- ). But I think it sounds AWESOME!!! The six-channel surround is really good (wish my center channel speaker was a little higher end). The 96 kHz two-channel stereo brings out the full potential of these old recordings. I cant believe it could get any better than this. I dont want to get into an SACD/DVD-A tug-of-war, but everything Ive read claims that DVD-A is more flexibility than the SACD. The DVD format allows for two-channel or 5.1/6.1 surround processing. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-13-2002 at 10:51 AM
  3. Ray, thanks for the post and as usual great reading. But as another poster suggested, the term burn it or break in used in the digital domain seems to inappropriate. For my setup, the Yamaha DSP-A1s DAC does 99% of the converting (optical and analog connectors) so I tend not appreciate my DVP's and CDP's role in converting ones and zeros. Thanks for google search suggestions!!! This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 12-03-2001 at 05:20 PM
  4. I might not post as often as some but I check out this BB at least four to five times per week. Would I say I'm addicted? You'd have to ask my wife. She thinks I'm but it's better than going out drinking with the boys! This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 12-02-2001 at 05:39 AM
  5. I was surfing the net to read-up on the pros/cons between between SACD and DVD-Audio and ran across this player. It is so inexpensive that I couldn't believe my eyes. But seeing how inexpensive it is, I know the quality has got to be questionable. You know what the sad thing is. If Apex had doubled the price, I might have given this player a serious look. 6. Has one seen or used one??? The Apex Digital AD-7701 ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  7. Pickins are slim for your Chorus IIs... EBAY has beat up Maples If you enjoy the classic Heritage sound and have a smallist room (like me). A good pair of Heresey II would be easier to find and would suit your musical tastes. Bass management isn't a problem with the HIIs, because the no bass . So a dy-no-mite sub is a must, even if your an ol' fashion 2-channel type. If you're a critical listner, DON'T GET THE KSW-15s. They're for HT only, IMHO. You'll want something a little more musical. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 12-01-2001 at 03:13 PM
  8. CD Player burn in??? We are talking digital (ONEs and ZEROs), right? Can someone explain the physics to me? I can understand something being broken in like a new pair of shoes or even speakers (rubber, seals, etc). But a CD player? - no way! IMHO, it is the listner's ears that are being broken in to the new sound of new gear. If someone can show me meter readings or something like that which shows a change in digital output after hours of play, please post it. Thanks ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 12-01-2001 at 01:33 PM
  9. Maxg, you've got some pretty nice gear listed. And with the Heresey 2 mains, you need some serious quality for your lows and match your sweet mid-range and highs. Maybe a single SVS Model 20-39PC or some quality used gear. The discontinued Klipsch sub listed above might be a good deal, if your lucky. Alot of bad reviews on them ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 11-28-2001 at 04:47 PM
  10. DTS CDs and DVDs are good to go!!! I love to pop one in on an unsuspecting listener and watch their eyes bulge and jaw dropfollowed by a One hitch when it comes to playing DTS CDs along with normal CDs on my 5-disk changer though. My amp has three processing capabilities: analog, auto (PCM/Bitstream), and DTS. When my amp detects the DTS coding, it switches from auto to DTS. This is fine, but on the next non-DTS track, it doesnt change back to auto (PCM/bitstream). So I have to manually re-select auto. No biggy, but a drag while entertaining. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  11. Okay, admittedly, my DVP processes DVD-Audio and HDCD, which sounds pretty goood at no extra price. But I'm holding off from buying a bucket load of DVDAs. And any "universal" players Check out this opinion. http://www.audioholics.com/Industry/Dvd-sacd1.htm ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  12. For cheapest online retailors, check out these site - cnet - Shopping, Yahoo! Both have price comparison features and both provide info about the company. 13. Olaf, what is your fancyJukebox (400-100 CDs), 5 disk charger, single disk transport? Heres an idea to get you out-of-the-box. Consider a DVD player as your CD player. I bought my Denon DCM-370 last year, and although it is a pretty good little player, I wouldnt buy it now because of how I wish to use my system in the future. I want two CD players: One for critical listening on chilled-out Sunday afternoons and one for non-critical listening such as parties, etc My solution: A fairly high-end DVP for movies AND for critical listening and a mega-charger (jukebox) for parties. Here is some recommendation: DVD Player: - Toshiba SD-9200 (HDCD/DVD Audio) - Pioneer Elite DV-09 - Sony DVP S9000ES (SACD) CD Player: - Any large Jukebox (300-400 CDs) with good CD text memory - Maybe a Sony? ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  14. Reading a review in audioreview.com and a poster placed this comment about the Toshiba SD9200. Can I get this translated into good ol'boy english? "This is a fine DVD Player when used in conjunction with a 16:9 widescreen television. It's sturdy and well built, its audio performance is absolutely first rate, and the quality of the images it produces in 4:3 or anamorphic mode is also top notch. Unfortunately, the heavy artifacts produced by this player when downconverting anamorphic DVDs for a 4:3 TV without anamorphic squeeze have really spoiled it for me. I bought this unit for use with a Toshiba 61HX70 4:3 HD-capable RPTV, which features component inputs with progressive scan capability, and a "16:9 vertical compression mode". The specifications of these units, their common manufacturer, and their similar positions in that manufacturer's product line suggested to me that they'd be a good match, and I was looking to get into DVD-Audio, so the SD9200 was an obvious choice. Bad move. Unfortunately, and apparently like all Toshiba 4:3 RPTVs, the vertical compression mode of the 61HX70 only extends to HD material, so there is no "anamorphic squeeze" to reproduce the effect of a 16:9 widescreen set. The SD9200 in this application is therefore forced to "downconvert" the anamorphic signal to allow it to display properly on the screen. This involves a 25% reduction in vertical resolution. There are apparently different ways of accomplishing this, all of which involve certain compromises. Toshiba units are at one extreme. They simply drop every 4th line of text. The solution they have chosen preserves a maximum degree of image sharpness, but also introduces a correspondingly large number of line artifacts and other undesirable artifacts into the picture. (Sony DVD players make a different compromise, sacrificing sharpness to minimize artifacts.) On the 61" screen of the 61HX70, these artifacts are really magnified, and the result is a picture which is frequently marred by ugly, obtrusive and annoying problems such as shimmering, moire, and diagonal lines that look like candy canes. The impression is worse with images wider than 1.85:1, where there are even fewer lines of resolution to deal with." This is the deal. I currently own a standard Sony 32 inch TV. In the future, I will upgrade to some large screen HD-RPTV. So what kind of TV is he saying I should say clear of??? ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  15. A Heritage HT setup calls for a large space, you might not have the room guy. Are your mains are pretty close together when toed into the corners? If so, try NO center channel and setting your receiver to "phantom" mode for center channel. The center channel signal will be produced through your mains. The reason I suggest this is because you'll notice a hugh difference in sound between your Hereseys and a non-Heritage center - I know. The distance from the listening area to my center channel is close, sounds like you're even closer. If you fine the room, Hereseys for the rear channels are the way to go!!! If not, use the KSP-S6. Happy Listening! ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Pioneer DV-606D CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 11-06-2001 at 06:13 PM
  16. Told the wife, she's pissed!!! Explained that this is a "reference" piece of gear! It's the sh*t! Great price!! Still, not impressed. At the end of the day, she loves great music and HT almost as much as me - just gets sticker shock. And my friends with their micro-mini all-in-one systems don't help either. Oh well... ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Pioneer DV-606D CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 11-06-2001 at 05:10 PM
  17. Had a "jones" to buy something for quite a while, DVP or SUB - SUB or DVP. It was killin' me!!! Finally ordered online this night... TOSHIBA SD9200 Ordered the unit from http://www.dynadirect.com/ and got it for a pretty good price: $750.00 Included shipping to a military FPO box in England! Not bad. Bought this unit after reading countless hours of reviews from Joes like me and the so-called Pros for the big mags. If anyone one has this unit, it would love to get your thoughts I'll let you all know how long it takes to arrive and the customer service. I'll also post a review here and audioreview.com Cheers!!! ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Pioneer DV-606D CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  18. While semi serious surfing Sunday, the company popped up in cnet.com price comparision for Klischorns, around $3,800. Just wondered if anyone had done business with them. 20. Ears, TOM V sort of agrees with ya. Here's his response to my email, "Well, if you wanted to try this I'd recommend removing the grille. And then making some type of standoffs that would keep the speakers about 2" above the top of the sub. As long as the speaker didn't *vibrate* off...it might work fine. I think I'll send this idea off to the US pattern office, LOL. I'm talking cosmetics, but my Heresey sitting next to some 39" columns would like bad, IMO. I can't get pass the paradigm (no pun intended ) that MAINS should be taller than the SUBS. I've seen some personal HT homepages with the 39(s) next to some towers. The step up looked OK, but a little too crowded for me. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Pioneer DV-606D CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  21. Hey folks. This might be crazy but I'm strongly considering buying these dual subs and placing my mains on top of them because of space constraints. As you can see below, I'm currently using some Heresey II as my mains, which are fairly heavy (about 40 pounds). Any thoughts??? Could placing my speaker on these subs cause any damage to my speakers or the subs? Could the sound so how be effected? Thanks ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Pioneer DV-606D CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)

  24. To somewhat impress the friends, I pull out my music concert DVDs! Here some of my favorites in no particular order because it always change depending on my mood : 1. Eagles, Hell Freezes Over (DTS) 2. Steely Dan, Two Against Nature (DTS) 3. Phish, Bittersweet Motel (DTS) 4. Santana, Supernatural (DTS) 5. Metalica, S&M (DD) This is a no shytter(sp?). One of the best sounding movies I have is Tom Burton's, The Nightmare Before Christmas (Special Edition DTS). I think your comment about how the sound was create in A Bug's Life also hold true with The Nightmare. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Pioneer DV-606D CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 10-14-2001 at 08:18 PM
  25. At nearly 40lbs a pop, I would consult a structural engineer before mounting those bad boys to your wall. You won't be able to mount them unless you drill some type of hooks into the back panel. I've seen a "commercial" Heresey mounted, but not "for home use." Maybe a well-designed shelf would work? I'd look into that before trying to "mount" the speakers. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 DVD: Pioneer DV-606D CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
