  1. Jezus... When I was a college student, we didnt have TV or audio systems that nice....LOL Ok, back on topic!! I recommend going to "Lowes" and buying 12AWG wire. They sell it by the foot, and it costs less than .40/ft. I cant remember the exact price, but it's pretty reasonable. With wire like that.......You'll be good to go!! Good luck!
  2. How funny... I actually thought your first post was negitive and desirving of Carl's tongue-in-cheek reply, But then that's the difficulty when dealing with written communication... there exists no tone-of-voice, facial expression or body language to tip you off to genuine inquesitiveness, sarcasim or negitivism Anyway, I have my RB35s sitting on stands because of "space constraints"... when I bought them I had intended on soon moving them to the rear after buying RF35s for mains. Our room configuration changed leaving me with no room for rear speakers and I like the RB35s and the custom stands I made for them more then I want to replace them. My wife agrees, lol Life is good.... and a series of compromises I agree that I deserved Carls reply. In fact, I liked it and thought his reply was a very good one. But back to the 'space' thing that we're talking about. Do you really think RF35s are going to take more floor space than your RB35s sitting on stands?? The difference is extremely minute, at best. Thats why I question when someone says 'space' is the reason. There are a zillion reasons to prefer bookshelf speakers, and there is nothing wrong with them, but when I hear "space" is the reason..... well, that doesnt measure up in my mind if they're sitting on stands. Now if they're sitting on a shelf, it's a different story. Bookshelf footprints arent much smaller than comperable floorstanders, and when you add the stand, it's virtually the same.
  3. Great post, and very emotional pictures. War is an unfortunate reality of life, but lets not to lose sight of the fact that every freedom we have as American citizens was born from it.
  4. LOL...... I turned 32 on 9/9/99. I guess that beats being born on 6/6/66[6]
  5. I've always used a similar approach. If they dont eat, I make it clear that this will be their last chance until the next meal. This is "especially" true if we're at a restaurant, and they dont touch their meal......LOL If they dont want to eat, I dont make them or create a big issue about it.
  6. My kids will be 4 & 9 in may. I had a lot of the same problems with oldest. Not so much for my little one because we still dress him in the morning, and he'll scarf down anything put in front of him. As for my daughter, OMG............ We'd lay out her clothes and tell her to get dressed, and then 20 minutes later, I'd find her playing in her room still wearing her jammies....etc, etc.. Same with eating and everything else so I can relate. I started keeping closer tabs on her, and now those problems are pretty much gone. Rather than waiting 20 minutes to check her progress, I'd check in 5 and stuff like that. My daughter now gets dressed, eats, does her hair, brushes teeth without having to be told.
  7. BINGO[<)] Im lucky to have never experienced WAF issues. Then again, I had large speakers when we first met, and she knew they came with the package. More recently, my wife informed me that she wants to paint the walls of our HT burnt red, and hang movie posters. LOL..... I told her "Sure".
  8. I never considered the other lines because my setup is 100% for movies, and I wanted a matched set as much for the look as the sound.
  9. Interestingly enough, I got that little 'rule of thumb' straight from the Avia head honcho in another forum when I was googling on the subject. You were talking about something entirely different. I was merely offering a basic rule of thumb while not attempting to explain the finer points of flattening frequency response. That discussion belongs in a thread discussing accoustical room treatments and the finer points of eQ'ing with Avia[] However, I do agree with what you were saying.
  10. oops... Double post. Where in the heck is the delete button when you need it?
  11. Carl, I did look at the 83s and thought they were nice, but I didnt think the increase of sound quality equated the price increase. My system is movies only, and I didnt think they performed any better in that capacity. If I ever listened to music, I probably would have given the 83s a much harder look. I never gave the others any thought. The only reason I asked the question is because I see people type that all the time........ Then I look at a pic of their setup, and they have book shelf speakers sitting there on stands that take up every bit as much room as floorstanding speakers. I wasnt trying to come across as negative to you, but rather that I was just trying to make light of that point.
  12. Roughly speaking as a rule of thumb........ Providing the speaker distances from your primary seating area are input correctly into your receiver, your default phase setting will be zero. Your receiver will automatically put your speakers into phase which is partly why inputting correct 'speaker distance' is so important.
  13. 'space restraints'........ Im curious why I hear that so often. The footprint of a tower is only a couple inches more than that of a comperable bookshelf. I just dont get the whole 'space thing'... For example, the RF35 is 9.25" wide & 14.8" deep, and the RB35 is the exact same width, and 10.8" deep. I just dont see how space is an issue.
  14. OK..... Please dont take this the wrong way....BUT.... With nice speakers like those with your HT, why do you have that TV? Is your system primarily setup for music?
  15. Another big fan here. I have the SVS PB12-plus/2 and love it. They make a high quality product at a very reasonable price.
  16. My apologies.... I was posting after a night of movies and drinking again, and I went overboard with my response. While the suggested retail at around $999/pr, the selling price is around $800/pr for a new pair.
  17. If people can buy them new for $800, why would they buy a used pair from you for $900?? I only paid $780 for mine!! Are you trying to rip people off? Are you selling stolen goods, and you dont even know the proper selling price for them?
  18. I insist on having at least one SUV in my garage to accompany my sedan, and love it. Not everybody wishes to drive a small econobox everywhere. When you grow up and have a family, you'll understand how having a large vehicle capable of lugging lots of crap around can be very useful. In many situations, it's a must.
  19. I agree..... I recently listened to several models comparing old to new, and I chose the new in spite of big discounts offered for the older models. I thought the new models sounded cleaner and more refined. IMO... buying a new model was a step up. When something new is released, you can hardly blame fans of the old to be skeptical. As far as I am concerned....newer is better........at least as far as this newest generation of Reference line is concerned. Whether it's 1.75 or 1.25 or whatever doesnt matter. It's all about quality!!
  20. LOL.... when I was in college, I dated 2 Lauras at the same time for a semester. Luckily, I didnt have that problem.
  21. Providing they arent shielded, you only need a couple feet of space between them and the TV to avoid any problems. If you notice problems with your image, just move them a little further away
  22. Friday night is "Beer, Pizza & Movie night" in my home and the HT will be rocking. I have 3 flicks on tap for tonight..... Showtimes are as follows..... 5PM CST... Transporter2 7pm CST... Dreamer 9PM CST... Equilibrium My daughter and I will watch the first one together, and by the time my wife rolls around, we'll watch Dreamer. (their request) And when they go to bed, I'll watch Equilibrium.(they're early to bed types) My HT is located two floors away, and at the opposite side of the house of where they'll be sleeping, so I can still listen at decent levels after they go to bed[:-*]
  23. Yep, It never ends.......... With that said, I'm finished upgrading for a short while. Im hoping to be able to choose between BR/HD DVD players before 2007, but thats all. I want to wait until some of the dust settles before deciding on a format. Whichever I choose, I want to choose a format that allows me to purchase "any" new release in my chosen format. I dont want to buy into a format that pits studios against each other, and only offers a token numbers of releases by Studio "X". After that dust settles...... Then I'll be looking for a HD/BR projector with HDMI inputs. I figure that will take 1-2 years before that market evolves enough to allow my upgrade. Of course, I'll also need a new AV receiver at that time that has HDMI ports when I purchase my new projector.........LOL
