  1. Yes sir, you have it all correct. BTW, the TV weight is distributed evenly across the entire bottom. Thanks for the offer, you have PM. Mike
  2. I suppose I could ask that another way
  3. You sir, are incredible. Thanks for the offer but I'm not prepared to purchase the surrounds for a couple/few weeks probably (depends on a couple things). Are you suggesting Academys for surrounds? I need to get the Academy for my center first. I already decided that it is a good center match for my quartets fronts. I'm waiting on a forthcoming check and then I get my center. Thanks again for the offer You restore my faith in humanity. First thanks for the kind words but my ex would disagree with you. geeze Louise, I should lay off the juice! I read this as you were looking for a center, OK I am a DA and can not read but yes the Academy would be Ok for surrounds I would think but for the price of them you could get better like another set of Quarts. Offer still stands if you want to try it as the center before you buy one. Ever since I was a young sailor with no money, I have lusted over stereo but could never and will never have the "best". What I have now is quite acceptable, thank you. I have never been able to audition anything before I bought and then wanted something else. I went into the local Klipsch/Mcintosh guys and wanted 5 LS IIs with cash in the pocket, asked some questions concerning a turntable and the guy couldn't be bothered to look up and specs for me. Needless to say I bought nothing there. I've asked to put down money on used amps/pre-amps to take home and try in my system and you would have thought I was an alien from the looks I got, So now if the urge moves I'll loan out stuff for folks to try so they can know not just go in blindly. There are 3 more Klipsch fans in my engineering group at work because they took a couple of mine over gave them a try. All three bought new from Klipsch in the last 6 weeks. To me speakers are very personal, what I like some people are turned off by and go home happy with their HTIB.
  4. For albums I use technical alcohol (denatured); otherwise it's Maker's Mark, not quite 190 proof.
  5. Want to borrow an Academy to see what it's like? Pay the $30 +/- shipping both ways and I'll send you the WO for a trial.
  6. I know that it was a silent auction but can you tell if you sold the unboxed pair?
  7. Not sure I follow but take a close look at stairway to left speaker, no room in front of speaker.
  8. Agreed, at first I was going with 3/4 fully across back with cutout to access wiring panel but a stress engineer at work said only something like 1/4" ply to reduce weight as the sides of the storage units would be the load bearing walls. Add 3/4" bottom shelf (and possibly top) in storage bin to add rigidity but keep them off floor by 1/4" or so to reduce drag when moving and better fit any un-level flooring.
  9. Approx: Total width 60" enough to fit under TV to support weight but give me what little room I have for speaker movement. Uprights would be at left and right edges and then and other two uprights spaced just outside of center speaker to form the storage areas. So, from left to right along the 60" width would be plumb with left edge, 13.5" to right, opening for center 30-31", upright, then another 13.5" to plumb with end. I am allowing some wiggle room in the center to get center speaker in and out to access wiring.
  10. I intended to use 3/4" ply as the sides of the storage compartments dadoed into top which would support the weight of the TV. The "back" would simply help keep everything aligned but not be weight bearing. Height of Belle with glass is 36 1/8". Wii sensor is 3/8". From floor to bottom of 'shelf' would be 36 1/2" minimum plus, what, another 1/4" +/- to allow freedom of movement to slide center speaker in?
  11. Thanks for the input Michael. WOW, it won't make 60+/- inches with 175# on it without a warp? Cool, I 'll need to add some stiffners ehh stiffeners, ehh sorry it's the end of a LONG work 3 weeks and I have had a beverage this evening. Now where/how to incorporate said members?
  12. "make up a solution of 2/3 to 3/4 distilled water, 1/4 to 1/3 rubbing alcohol (don't obsess over the water content in the alcohol like the Audio-goons) and about 1 drop of diswashing detergent per about 8 to 12 oz or so. I put this mixture in a water bottle and poke a small hole in the top to squirt it. I use that mixture with a Disc Doctor brush, then steam it off. " Hey, that's my mixture! Except I use the car wax applicator pads from the Dollar Store. Thanks much for the steamer method, I have a lot of vinyl that hasn't seen the light of day for a while and cleaning is a chore. I'll get one tomorrow! Coronas on me when you get to Atlanta.
  13. Thank you James. Anyone with design thoughts/skills and ability to freeking measure (I DON"T) please see this: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/112685/1133309.aspx#1133309 BTW I picked up the 3/8" beveled glass yesterday.
  14. I am adding a new thread here so it doesn't get passed up in the orignal posting under the google tool thread. Guys, it is what it is. I suk at 3D thinking and determining measurements. I need help and it's worth a little something for me not to screw this up. I have table saw, router, router & table, drills, drill presses, skill and jig saws. If you would look in the google tool thread you can get an idea of what I am thinking http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/111012.aspx. I believe (please correct any and all) that I would build a table/desk looking thing that is the length of my TV and the depth of the Belle. Two storage areas located between the left spkr/center and center/right spkr would support the weight of the TV and serve to store DVDs (standard and BluRay). I might toy with mounting the kids Wii in one and have the sensor located in the center between TV and ctr spkr. How cool would it be to have the storage units match the shape of the Belle fronts? (I'd even spring for the fabric from BEC or someone). Storage would only be as deep as neccessary for the DVDs and a false back or deep enough to have the Belle Vs" act as doors with storage behind. The Belles are factory height with 3/8" glass on top. I was thinking of cutting a suitable size hole in the rear panel of the 'table' so that I could slide out the center speaker to gain access to the already installed wall plate behind that encompasses all my wall jacks. This would require some finger grip room on the sides of the center. What? 3/4" hardwood plywood for the top, storage bin sides, bottom (maybe top) of bins. 1/4" ply for the back. I would stain the top and sides to match a croos between the WL and Mahogany Belles. Perhaps some trim around the edges to dress it up. The base (electronics unit) of the TV not counting screen over hange is 30" x 18" (almost exactly the size of the Belle top) so for symmetry I'd say make the top 18 1/2. Screen width across front is 58 3/8". Oh, TV is 175 pounds. Total width I have to use across my room from stairs to wall is 127". The dimensions in my word document was my memory at work but the real ones are included here. I have no drawing software as my hard drive took a leap out the top floor when it saw my last 401K statement. Cut sheets for wood VERY helpful. I can follow instructions but can't think on my own! What other info do you need? What can I send to you for your work?
  15. and a photo of the TV and Belles.
  16. Anyone know how to drive this thing? I am at a total loss trying to draw up anything and I have a project that I need to build. I can build, I can not draw. I will send beverage of choice if I can get it drawn up with cutsheet. The idea is to place the TV on top of the center speaker (3/4" plywood) and seperate the left and center / center and right with a 12" wide inside DVD rack with vertical slots. Speakers have 3/8" glass on top and I would like enough space around the center to slide it in and out plus space on top between spr and plywood to hold the Wii sensor. Here ia a word screen shot of the idea. next up photo of the equipment.
  17. While not "purist", when I first bought this place I did not have a dedicated room so I bought white RS-7s for WAF. They worked well in the living room and then when I built the basment I continued to use them. I have since moved along and put the Belles up front and tried switching out the sides/rears with the RS7s/Chorus IIs and Quartets. To the naked ear I can not tell the difference between them. There are some measurable differences on my PAA 3 with equalization but the RSs work just fine in my environment especially so for movies. So with that said I think that unless you want a certain speaker than a good Klipsch (anything else?) will work fine as the side/rear. SACD music is better with my Quarts or Chorus IIs bringing up the rear but I can't remember the last time I listened to that format. I have found that the L/C/R must work well together; the rest is gravey. My 2 cents. Edited to say: I suppose it matters what 'room' you have the system in. A correctly treated room will get you the best and show the faults in any system. I'm OK with mine with a less then ideal room shared with the family and treated with homemade (but researched) acoustic material.
  18. BOB, I see it's time for an intervention. Warm up the cigars, chill the booze and start up the dancing girls. I'll be up in the next couple of weeks.
  19. With my Chorus IIs in main L & R position I have found the Academy to be best all around in my situation. I used a third Chorus as well as a Quartet at times but due to positioning issues the Academy worked out best. I also used an Academy as the rear center in 6.1 mode. I am going with 3 Belles up front now so if you are interested in any of the above we'll take it to the garage sale forum.
  20. Thanks much, message to seller sent! it's a BIN auction so watch the clock. I spoke with the seller this morning. He has only the single and had been looking for a mate but now just wants to sell it. My CFO says no until I can sell my two Academies. Guess I'll have to put them on for auction.
  21. I am in the market for sure but I promised a forum friend that the next single I found was his if I could help him. He's been contacted and is looking. BTW the seller has not responded.
  22. Now that idea makes sense. After the great deal you got on the speaker, why not spend a bit to make it comfortable? Now the ? is should the rear be open or enclosed. Easier enclosed but is there any harm to sonics by wrapping an enclosure around the center; or L/R for that matter?
  23. Belle parts are: K-77-F and K-55-M. P/N for xover is 116499 Just can't make myself saw this beauty in half (yet). Yea, I know it un-screws but just the same....Unfortunately the TV is a DLP and not a flat panel so no wall mounting. I did a circling approach to the CFO last night and rest assured that I will not be getting a new TV anytime soon. Now if I could talk my 7 y.o. son into a little scheme and happen to toss a basball thru it????? Actually, a co-worker come up with a plan today to construct an I-beam supported shelf of 3/4 cabinet plywood stained to match center Belle to support the TV just barely over the center speaker and insert DVD/CD storage as filler between LCR. This would surround the newest lady in the harlem and cover her with a Georgia peach "bonnet" extending out just to her L&R sisters. All weight would be supported by the cabinet and I could pull out the center to access my wall plates behind the system as all wiring runs about 35' thru the walls to the rack. The other sisters started to get jealous but I reminded them of the early Christmas presents they received from Santa Crites just last week.
  24. I didn't even know that your wife knew my wife. Jeese what a system I could have for the price of a few purses.
