  1. Sounds like a great project. I had a pair in the seventies. Kinda wish I'd never sold them when I see what they're going for these days.
  2. Yeppers, the next step in technology.
  3. I've been using Nikon for 40 years. Have 4 F and 5 F3 bodies. Had an F4 and some AF bodies that were stolen. Went back to MF and the F3's. Dabbled in digital with a 950 and a 995 P&S and learned to use Photoshop. I would not invest in a DX body and will most likely pick up a D3 when they hit the used market. I have about two dozen MF lenses from 15mm to 300mm and have no desire to duplicate them with DX or AF lenses. YMMV.
  4. I asked this question, previously, and never got a reply. As I was more than happy with my Industrial La Scala's and Heresy's bought in the seventies, I never kept up with what Klipsch was deveoping. When I expanded my system in the late eighties, I went for EAW stuff, not knowing anything from klipsch except the MCM system. Too large to carry, in my case. Now I see there was a KP-600 system I was unaware of. My question is: Why did Klipsch get out of the Industrial end of the business? Perhaps even get into line arrays? I always thought that a highly visible commecial PA line might enhance the cachet of the home stuff. Michael Coulter?
  5. Here's hoping your treatment goes well. We have a Collector's Night at Alexion's in Rook, on the first Monday of each month. You're welcome, anytime, We did Porky Chedwick's 90th Birthday, in February. He's selling his home and moving to Florida. When that happens, I will hold a going away party. Most likely at the Raddison. Here's hoping you can win the $1,000,000 that Randi offered for proof these "Stones" work.
  6. This is my first contact with the KP-600. Simply awesome in execution. Why did Klipsch dump their Industrial line and stuff like this? Coulter? An aside, I recently picked up a pair of KP-115-SW's for $150. Work great with Heresy's.
  7. From http://www.randi.org/jr/080504string.html "Today I sent out the following e-mail letter to eleven audio reviewers who showed up on the web pages of the Shakti Stones and P.W.B. Electronics, as endorsers of some audio nonsense mentioned here last week, and to both manufacturers of the devices as well. The letter explains itself: My name is James Randi. I am the president of the James Randi Educational Foundation (address and contacts listed below) and I am an investigator of unusual claims. This Foundation has a prize of one million dollars that we offer, details of which are to be found at www.randi.org/research/index.html and www.randi.org/research/challenge.html. As a reviewer for a major audio publication, I'm sure that you will find the following offer of great interest, both from the point of view of validating your expert judgment, and adding substantially to your net worth. Please refer to www.randi.org/jr/073004an.html#3 and go to the item "THE JREF MILLION IS SURELY WON" to learn of the items — the "Shakti Stones" and P.W.B. Electronics' "Electret Foil" and "Red X Pen" — that I am referring to here. In my opinion — and I have none of your expertise, I freely admit — these are farcical in nature. Yet experts such as yourself have endorsed these products, and that support indicates that the JREF million-dollar prize should surely be offered, either to you personally, or to the manufacturers of these products — who have been similarly informed on this date. If you require further information concerning details of this endeavor, please contact me at randi@randi.org and inquire. This is a valid offer, a serious offer, and a sincere offer. Should any of these products prove to work as advertised, the first person who is able to demonstrate the efficacy of any of them, will be the winner of the JREF prize as described in the rules and details to be found at the above references. I await your response with great interest. The above e-mail message was sent to: Frank Doris, at The Absolute Sound: frank.doris@fm-group.net Clay Swartz, Clark Johnson, and David Robinson at Positive Feedback: cswartz@positive-feedback.com, cjohnsen@positive-feedback.com, and drobinson@positive-feedback.com Larry Kaye, Wayne Donnelly, and Bill Brassington at fi: kaye@umbsky.cc.umb.edu, Waynewrite@aol.com, and bbrassington@planethifi.com Bascom King at Audio: bhk@rain.org Wes Phillips at SoundStage: wes@onhifi.com Jim Merod at Jazz Times: jim@onsoundandmusic.com Dick Olsher at Enjoy The Music: senioreditor@enjoythemusic.com Peter and May Belt at "P.W.B. Electronics": webmaster@belt.demon.co.uk Benjamin Piazza at "Shakti Innovations": info@shakti-innovations.com Let's see what reaction is received — if any — to this clearly-outlined challenge. Remember, all we're doing here is asking the reviewers — the trained, experienced experts, the responsible endorsers of these products — to repeat their tests of the items, but this time under double-blind, secure, conditions. And we're making the same offer to the manufacturers, who we would expect to be even more sensitive and capable of performing such tests. WE ARE OFFERING ONE MILLION DOLLARS IF THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY CLAIM THEY CAN DO, WHAT THEY DO PROFESSIONALLY, IN A FIELD WHERE THEY CLAIM EXPERTISE FAR BEYOND THAT OF MERE MORTALS. WE ASK FOR NO INVESTMENT FROM THEM, WE DO NOT CHARGE THEM FOR PARTICIPATING — AND WE STAND TO GAIN NOTHING BUT WE DO RISK THE LOSS OF THE MILLION DOLLARS PRIZE MONEY. I am a mere mortal, unencumbered by academic degrees or claims of audio expertise. Show me, and win a million dollars... (Sylvia Browne just called and offered refuge and professional evasion advice to all the above-listed.) "
  8. Why not just buy a real pair of La Scala's? Save your money and end up with a quality item. I quit building speakers and amps in the seventies. YMMV.
  9. Never felt the need for modifying / adding tweets to my Klipsch LSI's. On the other hand...... When using my EAW FR253/SB180 stacks, I noted a shortcoming. Recently I added JBL 2405's, powered by a D150. Sounds great.
  10. Been using Crown amps for 30 years and MacroTech's for about 20 years. KP-115's & Heresy's - MA-2400 using 115's x-over to feed Heresy's LSI-BG - MA-600 & DC300A in a bi-amp configuration EAW FR-253's, SB180's &JBL2405's - MA3600vz's, MA2400 & D150A in tri-amp & sub configuration [|-)]
  11. That's about right. They had no issues. Anyone here? I bid $351 and got sniped. Oh, well.
  12. I bid on these but was outbid at the last moment. Took the %$@#&*%@# guy four or five bids to beat me. I had previously contacted the seller and he was only 250 miles away, at the other end of Pennsylvania. An easy day trip. I would have more closely monitored the auction, but had to attend a function. [:'(] Thanks to all, so far. Still looking................ [8-)]
  13. When I find something that works, and works for me, I stick with it. Whether its a Technics turntable, Crown amp, Klipsch speaker, dbx processor, Bozak mixer or Dorrough meter if it works I stick with it. I bought a pair of HIPs in the Seventies, along with four split La Scala Industrial BGs. This combo gave me extreme flexibility. Sadly, I no longer have my HIPs, as they were stolen.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The HIPs were the biggest audio bang for the buck I have ever experienced, during a period from 1961 til today. Back in the day, I sometimes filled-in for friends, DJing at local clubs. When they returned, their clients and customers would tell them about the amazing sound system I had brought in. The speakers had been about the same size as their famous Bose speakers, but sounded phenomenal. There were more than one set of Heresys purchased by fellow DJs, because of that. They all still use them, whether at home or at a wedding. Technology, and Klipsch, may have created a better mousetrap Heresy. Perhaps I will one day use that product. But, for now, I would like to find a pair of HIPs. If they have the Fiberglas and trim and they match my La Scalas; so much the better. [Y] I did not intend for this thread to become a debate about other products, but I remain open to any suggestions, if you have the suggested items for sale. Feel free to email me with those suggestions. Thanks.
  14. LMAO! ! ! ! ! [] "Updated to Bose" <<<< Classic Oxymoron. I do love my tube Dyna MK III's for my Dahlquist DQ-10's... When it comes to more commercial applications, the ONLY amps I use are Crown. On the other hand, I'll take my Crown DC-300's for use with my LSI tops and Crown D150's for use with my (EAW system's added) JBL 2405's. While they may not be the latest and greatest, they've work for me, some for decades. MA-3600 x 2 MA-2400 MA-1200 MA-600 DC300 x 2 D150 x 2 Classic Klipsch and Crown; great natural combo.
  15. While I love my four split LSI's, in fiberglas and aluminum... <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> It would be nice to have a pair of Industrial Heresy's. If you have a pair to sell, let me know. Pittsburgh area. Thank you.
  16. While it may be difficult to directly translate a design philosophy in speakers to one in automobiles, Ill chime in. What the hey.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> What has always drawn me to Klipsch speakers are the honesty, purity and timelessness of the designs. I refer to the K-Horn, La Scala and Heresy, only, as points of reference. For me, these are the three most definitive speakers produced by Klipsch and others are variations. I say this NOT to start a debate but to limit the Klipsch products to be used as design examples. Humor me.. Any design must be one that will be as desired in 2037 as in 2007. The K-Horn meets such criteria, as do the other examples. While it has been tweaked, it is very similar to the earliest examples. Everything else, design-wise, flows from the K-Horn. The La Scala is a more portable version that has a self-contained bass horn. The Heresy is even more portable, yet does not abandon the mid-range or tweeter philosophy of the K-Horn OR the La Scala. Only in the heretical woofer does it deviate from classic all-horn configurations. Relative Efficiency is the hallmark of all three examples Ive put forth. From that efficiency is derived the ability to perform at high levels with modest power. An automobile COULD follow this basic tenet. So your basic design would have to be light, rigid and easy to produce, with an efficient engine. It need not be cheap, but it must be capable of great performance and classic lines. It should not look OLD in a few years. If it has classic looks, great performance and is efficient, it will retain desirability. That will insure lasting value. People should not ask, What year? They will ask, What model? What you will re-invent is the Volkswagen. LOL []
  17. That's true. I already have four Split LSI's in BG. They are great for long throw, efficient speakers. But the Heresy's are so versatile and portable. They'd be great for those small things that don't need much coverage. They can do most everything but provide strong bass. Of course, the LSI's are not boomers under 70 cycles, either. I can add that with some EAW SB-180's, whether LSI or HI. If I wouldn't have gotten scammed on oBoy, previously, I would HAVE a pair of HI's, right now. Instead, I have a single non-ported HI. LOL I have a continuing "search" on oBoy for "Klipsch Industrial," but maybe I missed some. I'll keep looking.....
  18. Oh, well.... I gave it my best shot with a bid of $1,234.56, but was outbid by a sniper. I wonder if this is a new record for Industrial Heresy's? $1,339.56 for the speakers and shipping is a chunk of change. Anyone have another pair for sale? Let me know. Thanks. 19. Thank you. The Industrial Heresy's are, without a doubt, the most bang for the buck of any speaker I have ever owned. If I could back up in time... I would buy eight HI's and one Levan bass bin to use as a mobile PA. LOL [:'(] I used a Levan bin at Irving Plaza, powered by a PSA-2, and it rocked. Of course it's not very portable......
  20. A heads up. [] I'm bidding on a pair of Black Glass Heresy's on oBoy. Item number: 170077860268 Right now I think I'm "Bidder 10" @ $810. These are meant to replace a pair of HI's that were stolen many years ago. I tried to purchase a pair, last year, but got scammed. The scammer, in California, only shipped one of the two I paid for. I will offer that single HI, here, should I win the HI/BG's. It would make a nice center channel. It is the non-ported HI in black wood, not molested and not beat-up. Will keep you advised...... [Y]
  21. Glad it seems to be working out for you. I am still angry at myself for selling two matched TD124's to a buddy, back in the Seventies. I was "upgrading" to the then new variable-speed quartz drives (they even had a wooden base) and didn't see the need to keep the 124's. Oh, well. I now have three SL1200's and a pair of SL1500 MKII's. Yes, they are superior to the TD124's (IMHO) but I still wish I had them to create a vitage DJ rig... along with my old Bozak, LSI splits and Dyna MKIII's. Plus you can't play 78's on the 1200's or 1500's.... Never sell anything. If it's good it will come back "in style."
