  1. Here is some ebay history ... some aren't Cornwall ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9743913752&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9743395437&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9742046190&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9739528268&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9744177819&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9740453794&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9739755535&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9739497002&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9739181603&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9739145284&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=9738290384&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
  2. All of the prices seem to be slightly depressed just now. I'm not sure it is the best time to sell. There have been an abundance of Cornwalls and other Klipsch speakers on ebay ... Audiogon ... etc ... recently. One piece of advice I have is if you want to get the absolutely lowest price possible for your speakers ... put right in the add that you aren't prepared to help a purchaser even so much as call a shipping company for them. No Shipping! Perhaps even put right in the add that they are for pick-up only and that they are currently located in Rubber Boot, Saskatchewan.
  3. Perhaps he has a policy against taking out of State cash ... []
  4. That's metric time. It takes a while to get used to ... them 100 second minutes are weird at first ...
  5. You might try looking around for some end of line stock for a good price.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The Panasonic SA-HE200 6.1 Channels Receiver is good ... You can find them in the $300 price range ... Oh and the Sony STR DA5000ES 7.1Receiver comes with a 5 year warranty now you can find them on ebay for around $500.00
  6. I wonder what the center and sub models are ... the BIN price could be quite the deal ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&item=180000929466&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
  7. Holy crap the dust cap on that thing is bigger than a dinner plate ...
  8. That is the female version of the remote isn't it ...
  9. Is there an echo in here ... or is it just me? Get thee down to Costco or some other discount store and buy "Component Video Cables". For a 6 foot set (three wires with RCA ends) it will set you back maybe $30.00. Costco where I live was selling a 5 wire set a few weeks ago (two extra wires to carry stereo audio) for about that amount. If you are hooking your DVD to an amplifier by a digital connection you won't need the extra two wires. If you end up at some video specialty place you may pay a lot more ... but I wouldn't spend the bucks on "fancy" if you are using an older DVD player anyway. Monster Cable is made in Monster China and isn't worth even 1$ more. Don't get hyped.
  10. I wonder if they considered using navel lint. It is "organic" ... a renewable resource and therefore there is a virtually inexhaustible supply. .
  11. My PJ is 18 feet back and I sit about 22 feet back. The room is just over 13' wide. So I was only able to fit a 133" diagnal (116 inch wide) screen in. Yes ... over 10 feet wide in a room only 13 foot wide. Relax ... the room is over 35 feet long and has very deep easements on both sidewalls about 1/2 way into the room. But that makes front speaker selection critical and width "rules" ... a La Scala is just too fat. The Speakers can't be over 20 inces wide or it would encroach on screen ... DOH! I built a center channel from an Audax kit plan (French) by designer Joe D'Appolito. It is very good ... at 10" tall it sits on the floor and it nearly encroaches on the screen ... See ... size matters ... []
  12. With a perfect room you could walk and walk and walk towards the back until the volume was just right. With a perfect room ... .
  13. BluRay is a computer format. It will rise or fall on that basis. The movies part just sorta comes along for the ride.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Much the same as D-VHS was developed for data ... and got a following going for movies. The problem with D-VHS is that ... well it is tape. Computers need a bigger DVD ... and soon. There is so much data out there which has no archival means ... I have a D-VHS recorder. It has Firewire-in (i-Link) from my Motorola DVR. Works well. It converts to a format I can transfer to my computer ... but there ain't anything big enough for me to put it on ... HD is huge and a regular DVD is way small ... For that reason I believe that BluRay is going to succeed. I don't know about HD-DVD ...
  14. Follows a number of useful links: http://www.cinemasource.com/articles.html http://www.wiseacres.com/screen.htm http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html http://www.projectorcentral.com./projection-calculator.cfm Don't forget about "black-drop". Each projector deals with it differently. The NEC 1000 for example had a wicked drop of over 12 inches ... nothing that can't be overcome with a shift-lens ... but if you go about fixing key-stoning by digital means you lose resolution big time. The NEC had no shift lens ... sadly that ruled that model out for me.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> That first link has several very very good articles in PDF format. The one on home theatre design is specially on topic for you.
  15. I skipped the "bi-wire" technique and went right to AFDB. The advantage to AFDB is that it is portable. AFDB is also independent of special wiring for power cords ... I think double layers are good ... With one layer shiny side in .. What Is It? All you DIY guys out there ... click on the link for special instructions for you ... "Building An AFDB" [H]
  16. Best deal on speaker wire I have found is commercial grade "in-wall" 12 gauge speaker wire from Home Depot. It is wrapped in a hideous green colored plastic protection sheath as it is intended to run through holes drilled in 2x4 studs. It is a twisted pair with one twist about every inch. I paid 29 cents a foot from a big roll perhaps 500 feet long or more. I thought it may have been priced wrong it was such a good deal.
  17. Good deal mate ... ! In the interim ... I bought another set of Chorus. An impulse buy. (I have no self control ...)[<)] Apparently you can't actually get to many Klipsch Chorus speakers crowded into a single home theatre ... Cal you just may have saved my marriage. Thank you. If I had bought the Chorus on the weekend ... and then the Quartets from Dave ... for sure I would be sleeping in the shed for a few days ... []
  18. There was a cosmic intersection of good music in the late 60's and then the 70's and vinyl, There is a large under current of young people (with taste) and that era. My 18 year son seems to have been bitten. Yes he has nearly all of the 70's era on MP3 but he is also crazy over vinyl. He has a 200 album plus collection of most of the best of Rock in that era ... and growing. Retro is very cool today ... Don't throw out those old LPs ... they sell for 20 and 30 dollars a pop if they are in good condition. I saw the impossible a few months ago. A limited edition press of ... wait for it ... "The Monkeys". The store had a price tag on it of $2,500.00. Now you know that the world is crazy ...
  19. Holy Smokes ... don't post pictures of speakers that beautiful without a warning. [] Too nice ... I find myself trying to calculate drive time from here to Iowa ... something I NEVER thought possible ... [H]
  20. Well if they are still around next week ... I will still take them. And I will throw in a bottle of single malt Scotch for your efforts. []
  21. Personally oldbuckster a part of the fun of it is the scrounging for a good deal and then sourcing it where it is actually made ... not from some importer. For me ... I buy classic BMW motorcycles. Classic as in at least 25 years old. They sell new ones ... yes ... but I like the old ones much better. I buy parts for my motorcycles in the UK and Germany. Sometimes having to translate into English ... that part is interesting as I don't speak a word of German. I buy new video gear out of Japan. Sometimes stuff which isn't even sold in North America .... or if it eventually is sold it is sold at a HUGE price. I have a contact in Japan who sources for a living. If anybody wants to see how it works his address is www.pricejapan.com. Very interesting process really and it works like a Swiss ... er... Japanese watch. While I am absolutely sure that you are correct ... there are those who as you say "scam"... I personally havent been taken by one. Yet. They are usually fairly easy to spot and they seem to like living in Romania or Nigeria. [] In China for some crimes if you are caught ... they shoot you dead. I can think of all sorts of places which are more amenable to criminals than in China. If you are concerned about selling something to China tell the guy. He may just send you the money first and let you sit on it for a few days ... as a gesture of good will. Or perhaps you could use an escrow service ... like these guys: https://www.escrow.com/index.asp Either way I would be thinking of something I wanted out of China now that you have a good contact. Maybe a Chineese Rolex ... [] .
  22. I met a fellow who buys used Harley and British make motorcycles across America and ships them by the container load to China. There is plenty of recently rich over there and they like their toys as much as we do. Except everything they sell over there is made in ... well ... China. Enough said ... That's why they like stuff they can't normally get. As someone else said ... DHL ... all the way. I buy stuff straight out of Japan and DHL service is amazing. 3 days from Tokyo to me in Canada. I can't get delivery out of Toronto or New York that quick.
  23. . Dave you should have an email ... if you don't PM me ... If we can arrange the pick up logistics I will buy the Quartets ...
  24. He said he is selling these to get BIGGER ones ... ?
