  1. If "Cornwalls" were to mate with "Forte" speakers ... you would get "Chorus". []
  2. Best availability where I come from is a place called "London Drugs". Yes. It is a drugstore chain.
  3. Could you please tell me how much it would cost to ship to Canada, Postal Code T3A 4N2? Does anbody know it this will make it through Canada Customs "Endangerd Species" embargo? Do you take Paypal?
  4. Last night I set the x-over in the Amp to 40 ... and on the Sub I set it to 100. The bass improved a bunch ...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Next project is to experiment with phase shift and positioning the Sub in various locations. I'm not sure yet ... but I may be cancelling some base because of phase ... Question ... how close is "too close" when it comes to positioning the Sub vs. listening position? Right now it is too close I know it ... around 6 feet and it's pointed right at my right listening ear. If I am able to move it anywhere (theoretically speaking) is it better to be forward toward the screen area ... or behind the listening position?
  5. Well if you are wearing headphones to decrease the sound anyway ... get a pair of those electronic noise cancelling headphones. The technology has come a long way in a short time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise-cancelling_headphone It may be the "Best of Bose"... ... "anti-sound" ... LOL
  6. DrWho that is very helpful. I will try moving the crossover to ~40Hz on the sub first ... and do the others in increments to see the difference. Thanks.
  7. Now that pops one of my misconceptions ...
  8. Sorry ... I should have mentioned the Sub ... <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have a Polk 505 (a 12 inch) which is not their top of the line ... but does a respectable job. I mean it doesn't need to be a behemoth subwoofer when I have 4 Klipsch 15 inch woofers in my floor standing Chorus speakers ... When the cannon fire starts in the 1812 Overture there is no mistaking them for pop-guns with or without a subwoofer. Hey how about the reverse ... if I lie to my Amp and say there is no subwoofer does that push more low-end toward the fronts and rears? They are quite capable ... Or does that just turn off all signals from heading down the LFE wire? I see a number of experiments in my future ...
  9. Since beefing up the speakers and moving some furniture around over the last month or so ... it was time to go over the settings in the Amp.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I paced off the distance to the various speakers and was all prepared to enter them when I came across the question ... "Large or Small"? When it comes to the Klipsch SS-3 surrounds I don't actually know the proper answer ... My fronts are Klipsch Chorus II ... my rear speakers are Klipsch Chorus I ... each of these weigh in at 90 pounds. One would obviously say that they are "large". My Center is custom built and it isn't a lightweight either. I would say maybe 50 pounds or more. I would say that it is obviously "large" as well. But my Klipsch SS-3 Surrounds are suspended from the wall and if I recall they are only about 15 pounds each. They do have a couple of quite capable horns each ... and a 5 or 6 inch "woofer" ... but relative to the other speakers they are what one would have to describe as "small". But in terms of Amp settings parlance ... should they be set to "Large" or Small"? If I set them to "small" does that "shift" the bass which normally might be sent to those locations elsewhere ... perhaps the rears? For background purposes my Amp is a Sony STR-DA-5000ES
  10. Ya. That's it! Tell her it's art ... then start to dance ...
  11. If your comcost box (Motorola ?) is very very new it will have HMDI ... but more likely it has DVI and a separate optical digital connection. So you may need a DVI to HMDI cable and put the digital audio into your amp separate.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Either which way Lindy is where you want to get your cable from ... good product great prices. And as long as you want 'em. http://tinyurl.com/z8a5w I have used many of their cables and they are very good at prices you won't find in a store.
  12. Coytee I am printing your post out and keeping a copy in my wallet. When I am running out of WAF and about to be scolded for my incurable impulsive behavior I may whip it out and show her ... I could be worse ...
  13. Holy Smokes ... they started out with 10 pair and have 6 pair left. An all Heresy home theatre for that price would be awsome. I'd buy a pair but I would be spending the rest of the summer sleeping in the dog house ...[]
  14. Yes thanks rplace. I did check with the moving companies (but forgot about North American Van lines) and found them to be a little steeper in cost. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> If I was moving a couple "furniture grade" KHorns I would definitely recommend forking out the extra dollars and getting the kid glove service. OK ... I admit it ... I was buying on the cheap. The speakers might have to be masked anyway (darkened theatre and front projection). There is also still the likelihood that I might use a perfed screen at which point they would literally be behind the screed and out of any possible line of sight anyway. ... and <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Texas to Alberta was less than a couple hundred bucks so by way of UPS ... I use UPS for a LOT of stuff I ship. They are pretty good folks there and I have always found them attempting to make it good for their customers ... (sucking up now as the claim is still in process ...)
  15. Update:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The second pair of Chorus arrived yesterday. Not as lucky with this pair as there is some shipping damage. The plinth on both speakers have been broken (the joints come loose ... no damage to the actual wood only the glue). This I can easily repair myself. The bigger issue is a gouge (yes the right term would be gouge) at the back of the speakers but yet on the oak ... likely caused by a careless UPS dude with his hand truck dolly. All of this is purely cosmetic (they sound awesome) and can be readily repaired by a furniture guy in very short order I am sure ... The speakers were quite adequately packaged with a double layer of thick quilt batting ... then a layer of cardboard ... this then was wrapped in a double layer of large size bubble wrap (like a cocoon) and then all of this further wrapped with oversized cardboard. There must have been a couple rolls of packing tape used to hold all of this together. This made the speakers maybe a 1/3 again their normal size. So I will be making a claim to UPS for damage to the speakers. Not so much for the financial purpose ... but they should be looking into who ever it was who handled them so roughly. For those who say well you shouldn't ship them ... as far as I know Klipsch doesn't actually have a factory in my home town ... so one way or another they would get shipped even if I were to buy them brand spanking new from the stereo store down the street. Updates to follow after the claim process
  16. Just a quick update on the knowledge I have gained regarding shipping.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Many folks over estimate how much work is actually involved. Shipping big speakers appears to be rather common fare for courier companies. They handled my first pair with ease. I received one pair of Chorus from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Texas so far ... and another pair in enroute to me here in Canada from California. I should get his second pair in the next day or two. In both cases I used UPS. The paperwork involved from the folks who shipped them to me is minimal. A formatted invoice for the sale ... and another invoice like piece of paper which declared that the goods were being shipped from the USA. In both cases UPS sent the forms by email to the guy shipping them to me and they just filled them out and printed them prior to the driver from UPS picking up the speakers. The UPS driver went to the sellers home and loaded them into their truck ... right from their garage. Actually less hassle than someone picking them up locally and looking for a hand to load them into their truck. The first pair were shipped in original boxes ... although those boxes had seen a better day when they were new ... they were like 25 years old and cardboard does not improve with age like wine does ... Anyway this first pair from Texas to me in Calgary, Alberta took 7 days. The cardboard boxes were still in OK shape (no punctures or tears) but the Styrofoam inside was shot so I have now thrown them out. The driver and I carried the speakers right into my basement. No nicks, scratches or dings on the speakers themselves. Exactly as the seller had described them to me. I will update when the second pair arrives
  17. Good point ... and one I hadn't thought of.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> No doubt this is going to be a trial and error thing. I don't think the bass will be effected much as they will be in the corner and only a couple feet off the ground and where the woofer would be otherwise if they were standing in front of the book case. Only time and trial will tell. In the meantime I am waiting until a new receiver which I have on order arrives before my experiment is undertaken. I like wuzzzer's idea so it will be my starting point ...
  18. So I wanted to upgrade my rear surrounds and so a pair of Chorus off ebay not long ago.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have SS-3 surrounds and Chorus II for front Speakers. The sub is a Polk 505 and does a decent enough job. My center is a Joe D'Appolito design with Audax speakers which my son made for me ... so there is a certain sense of pride in that speaker ... and it is also very good for what I use it for ... Anyway ... the Chorus rears I just bought can sit on the floor if they have to ... but will get in the way from time to time ... and there is a large custom built oak shelving unit just behind them with a hole just slightly larger than the big Chorus boxes and I am beginning to think of loading these speakers inside this shelf unit. The shelf itself is plenty deep and is built right onto the wall (structurally on the 2x4 which at that point are on 8 inch centers). So the unit can take the weight. What I don't know until I try is can it take the vibrations ... Anyway the question is ... if these babies are lying on their side do I have them lying with the top of the speakers (the horn section) together in the center ... or the other way around with the woofers in the center? The room at that point is around 13 feet wide. Any suggestions are welcome ... I'm looking for ideas ...
  19. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&item=150000748451&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 I wish I had the room ...
  20. If you know the serial numbers someone should be able to decipher it for you and come up with a year of manufacture. Gauging by the ornaments on top ... they weren't likely over driven. []
  21. er ... does anybody else besides you hear this hum?... have you tried making yourself a tinfoil hat ...? [6] Seriously it does sound like it might be environmental. It sounds like you have tried everything imaginable except ... maybe ... dragging the thing next door and trying it in a different environment.
  22. Well you couldn't be in a better market to buy in ... All you gota do is agree to drive to Rubber-Boot Saskatchewan ... and yer set. Look at these puppies ... http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Cornwall-Speakers-Immaculate-ORIGINAL-OWNER_W0QQitemZ140001113659QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem But at least this guy will ship them and you don't have to go fetch 'em.
