  1. THE OTHER DAY, SOME GUY TOLD ME THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR (VISUAL) HOME THEATRE IS THE SCREEN. IS THAT TRUE? I WAS AT A BEST BUY (MAGNOLIA) AT THE TIME, STANDING IN FRONT OF A SCREEN THAT WAS $2K
  2. even his heavy metal stuff? when i lived in michigan, a local radio station was having a contest to win something. to win, you had to lay in a coffin while they piped in (continuously) debbie boone singing "you light up my life."
  3. amy--no harm, no foul as they say in the NBA. i once told a guy that worked for me (that was transmitting payroll information to our pay center) "just press yes" when the computer was asking some question that neither of us knew the answer to...long story short...yes was the wrong answer. it took hours and hours on the phone with the computer geeks at our pay center to fix the problem. despite this setback my theory held true..."you can't screw up something so bad that someone in the organization can't fix." but be honest. isn't it a rush to have such an impact?
  4. thank you for answering dean. is this a relatively painless upgrade for me--what i mean is, do i have to send the heresy's away to get upgraded or can a novice install the new parts?
  5. that was real bad, carl lewis gave her a run for the money although he wasn't disrespectful. years ago i was at a los angeles lakers game, some guy was doing the anthem while playing an acoustic guitar. he actually, layed on the floor, on his back, at one point during the song. didn't impress me...honoring a tradition impresses me more.
  6. dtel--we grew up miles apart (southern california for me) but the tunes were the same. brought back some memories reading that list. always liked david bowie's space oddity. ground control to major dtel....
  7. anyone heard of this one, kinda old but a great rock song....while my guitar lies bleeding in my arms by tuff darts.
  8. oldbuckster, you're being way too kind. anything sung by michael bolton by definition is on some "Worst..." list. although, i must give him some credit, he managed to make a living doing something he really sucks at.
  9. sorry, i don't know how to post a link. they look like shorthorns and the seller thinks they're klipsch; however, won't open the cabinets to see what's inside. to be honest, i don't anything about shorthorns--are they real good? $200 is cheap--maybe this is steal? Ebay Item number: 180072062790
  10. i still enjoy a few beers, sitting in a dimly lit room, and listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond (the entire song) at a rather loud volume.
  11. i read about people getting new xovers, etc...why? i have a pair of '84 Heresy I, is this something I should do? In layman's terms, how will my Heresy's sound different?
  12. Looked on EBay last night, less than two hours left on an auction for a pair of nice looking LaScala's, circa 1980 I think it said. I've really been wanting a pair. I'm in the Los Angeles area and the seller was in Apple Valley, CA which is a very reasonable commute. Highest bid was $842. Unfortunately, I have to make the payment on my 25th anniversary cruise to Hawaii and I had to pass this up. Bad timing. Hopefully, another deal is out there somewhere. I did see what looked like a pair of ShortHorns listed--seller didn't seem to know too much about the product, but was listing it for something in the $200s if I remember correctly. Seller won't open the cabinets, but thinks it's Klipsch inside. Guess this would be a crapshoot. But could be a steal???
  13. one of zappa's first band mates was don van vliet (aka Captain Beefheart) strangely successful as well. i actually met him at 7-11 convenience store one night--he was buying ice cream. not that this has anything to do with this thread...sorry, saw the name zappa and this is what came to mind.
  14. Do Hot Wheels count? Back in the 60's I had some real sweet Hot Wheels.
  15. superbowl will be philly/baltimore, with baltimore winning. the bears are the recipients of the easiest schedule in the nfl. at best, they're one and done. my heart will be rooting for the colts. despite san diego's talent, marty's legacy is losing in the post season and with the owner's statement this past week of evaluating the coaching staff after the post season hints that a 14-2 regular season record isn't good enough to soothe the bad feelings that marty and the owners have. he needs the superbowl to save his job--that pressure will cause him to play conservative---exactly the style that has hurt him in the past.
  16. nice article doc, thanks. perhaps you should consider a "road show" where you can pass on more of your knowledge. or are you afraid we'll start calling you professor?
  17. What determines speaker size in regards to amp settings? I have the complete F3 system w/ ksw12 sub--should the settings be large or small?
  18. how about the happiest place on earth...LAS VEGAS.
  19. it was a local deal, so i could have picked them up myself. i just waited too long. initially, i didn't know too much about them, then wasn't sure if they get along with my heresys, then wondered if i should wait until i pay off my vacation (taking a 15 day cruise from los angeles to hawaii and return this spring and i have to pay the balance this month). hopefully, more good deals will come along--although, i think i'll go with an all heresy lineup.
  20. we'll doc--i always say, if you're going to do something--do it well. didn't intend on losing to be part of that philosophy though. when you can only get two wins out of a season, might as well laugh about it. Oldtimer--i, too, can remember the days that the raiders were feared. With two Hall of Fame coaches on staff, you'd think that the offensive line would be better. i sure hope they don't draft brady quinn from notre dame--QB isn't their greatest need. hmmm, i wonder what speakers are used in the coliseum? hope you guys aren't getting hammered by that snow storm. as usual, it's sunny and in the 70's here in the beach area of southern california.
  21. thanks for the advice--although the auction has ended for the chorusII (they went for $445). Coming up on 23 years and i still love my heresys--pwk really hit a homerun with them. i was fortunate to walk into a high-end stereo shop in early 1984 and the saleman suggested the heresey--i've never regretted that purchase once! my wife has given me the ok to get three more heresys (i struck a deal and whenever i find a good buy that will be my belated Christmas present). not as well-schooled in sound engineering as most of you--i'm assuming the timbre match will exist whether or not i find heresy I or heresy II?
  22. the lions and raiders were in the running for the worst record. since the lions won and the raiders lost (again) that made us officially the worst team in the nfl and entitled to the first draft pick.
  23. when i crossed the einstein-podolsky-rosen bridge--i found you all were right.
  24. picky--i was born (geographically) into Raider Nation, so thanks for making us number one (number one draft pick that is). doc--thanks for the heads up last night when you spoke to me from the future. when the guys showed at midnight to give me my shiney silver suit, i wasn't alarmed. unfortunately, they didn't bring cornwalls to power my hovercraft--the wife's sports car will be powered by the synergy f3 system and my truck by some classic heresys. may 2007 bring good health and happiness to you all.
  25. please tell those of us on the west coast and still stuck in 2006...what is it like in the future? do klipschsters rule the world?
