  1. ebay Item number: 290065319597 klipsch chorus a few questions...how does this price look? ($445) i have a pair of heresy (purchased new in 1983) i been looking for three more heresy's to go with them. is the chorus compatible or should i stick with all heresy? not in a rush, just keeping my eye out for good deals. thanks for your advice, and happy new year.
  2. i don't know how to post a picture (said embarassingly)
  3. Fake tree always. After a dozen years, my wife let me decorate the tree my way--we're proud owners of a white tree with black ornaments. It's actually rather nice looking and is getting rave reviews.
  4. i got switched too. configuring the email is giving me problems--it hasn't been as painless as they hinted. i'll take comcast back anyday.
  5. I'm a big fan of rock keyboards, my two faves are Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman. thank you! i'm a huge wakeman fan. yes was my very first concert. i also saw rick during his new gospels tour, got his autograph--i was happy, my kids were bored.
  6. i laugh everytime i see the bose commercial on tv (which seems to be quite often these days). the bose expert says something to the effect that "if you compare this system with a regular tv..." that should be a clue to anyone, regardless of how much you know about sound equipment. You're comparing your super-system sound to a regular tv? man, you sure are proud of that system. sadly, i'll bet people are buying into it.
  7. i enjoy listening to roger more than david; but, it would not surprise me at all if he is an unhappy person. if i write too much this thread will get hijacked to a political or philisophical one, so i'll leave it as saying that if he means everything that he says, he's living a life of contradictions--that would make anyone an angry person. but, i enjoy his music. in his defense, at the hollywood bowl show last week, he shared the big screen.
  8. nostaglia. competition. both. for me, these discussions keep the old days alive. ask me anything about post 1979 music and chances are i won't know the answer. probably missing out on some decent sounds; but, my era still sounds real sweet in reruns!
  9. you think you have it rough--here in SoCal I forgot my sunglasses and the sun was shining so bright that it made driving dangerous. ok, that was mean; but, i did spend four years in michigan, so i do know what cold is.
  10. Yes--plenty of Nick on the big screen. Especially, at the beginning of the song TIME. He can still play the drums--it was nice seeing "half" of Pink Floyd. The performance sounded just like the album, although the background stuff (other voices, sound effects, etc...) were much more noticeable with this sound system.
  11. well, i saw roger perform last sunday night at the hollywood bowl. as expected, he was right on. roger has surrounded himself with some very good talent; and unlike barbara streisand, roger didn't lecture us with his political views (only two references made: the writing on the flying pig, and some of the lyrics in leaving beirut). i must admit, i was a little starstruck. i've listened to pink floyd for so long, seen videos, interviews, etc...and when he stepped onstage, it was neat finally seeing the guy live. Nick Mason joined him for the second set, which was the entire DSOTM. I'll put it right up there with my other "legends" concert, which was Queen in 1980. Take in the concert if you get the chance.
  12. another vote for beer glasses and neon sign. flex-fit ball caps.
  13. Would someone kindly check out this ebay item and give me some advice as to whether this would be a good buy. i would have posted a direct link, but don't know how. i live in SoCal so I could pick these up myself. Please note the questions asked of the seller, he does mention some damage. does this damage make this a deal breaker? Thanks! Klipsch Forte Oak Speakers Item number: 140036131182
  14. and that's ok. i guess i tend to be too competitive and always find myself having to chose one over the other. i do this with many things--sports, food, music, etc...fact of the matter is that those guys worked together for a reason, they each knew how the other complemented their individual talent. It's sad that performers put so much emphasis on getting the credit, that has been the downfall of so many bands. On Queen's dvd "The Making of A Night at the Opera" there is a portion where they're talking about the bass player, john deacon not writing very much of the music. knowing that royalties have been the achilles heel of many bands, freddie mercury started as early as the queen II album, encouraging john deacon to write more music. i'm seeing roger's performance next sunday at the hollywood bowl. is shine on you crazy diamond part of the show? that is my favorite. i do like they way the solo on comfortably numb has been done in the past. david & snowy white actually did that before, it was kinda regarded as a battle of the actual guitars, ala david's strat vs. snowy's les paul. at times, they went on much longer that the original solo. thanks for the concert update!
  15. i'll be seeing his show this sunday at the hollywood bowl. if it's anywhere near as good as In the Flesh, i'll be very happy. where i give him the most credit post-floyd is that roger surrounds himself with very good talent. based on what i've read on this thread, it should be a real good show.
  16. Thinking about going into the archives and bringing out some old gear to use in my garage (converting it into a lounge). I still have an NAD 1020a preamp, and I believe the amp is NAD 1150--both purchased in 1984, along with a pair of HERESEYS (best purchase I've ever made!). If I remember correctly, the NAD left channel was not working (no sound at all). A few questions: would this be the channel on the amp or preamp? (don't know if they both have left and right channels--that is why I asked--don't know much about how these things work). What is a ballpark figure for the repair if the channel is blown? Hope these are answerable questions--just looking for a rough idea as to whether it's worth it to have it repaired--it served me well, back in the day. Since we've recently "gutted" the house and spending a fortune remodeling, I don't think buying new gear will go over too well. But, then if the repair costs equal or more than something new of comparable quality...appreciate any advice.
  17. because i'm seriously space-challenged in my new home, i'm thinking about using in-wall speakers in the living room. do i use several of this same type speaker for the entire set-up? (main, surround, center)? what about a sub? this will replace a complete synergy III set-up. will it be comparable sound-wise? i've haven't heard them yet--just decided tonight to redo the living room and move the synergy III to the lounge (well, it will be a lounge someday, right now it's still a garage).
  18. Wow! That sounds good enough to make a trip from Southern California; but then again, maybe if you crank it up real loud, I'll be able to hear it anyway.
  19. anyone watch the channel INHD? i made a good mistake when i bought my hdtv--good in that the picture is incredible, bad in that i'm now spoiled and can't watch "regular" tv. I was watching some show the other day that was broadcast non-high def and the picture was horrible. anyway, the channel INHD and INHD2 have some decent shows. Currently, watching Survivorman--this guy puts himself in dangerous situations (stranded in either desert or alaska, etc...) and tells you how to survive if you're ever in those situations. Beernuts is two guys that travel around the country and visit micro-breweries. Time for me to use one of my survival tools--another ice-cold Moosehead.
  20. Glen Campbell's version of the song "Classical Gas" and watching the Waltons--but, i balance that out by watching a few episodes of Rocky & Bullwinkle.
  21. QUEEN--We Will Rock You. I never tire of watching and/or hearing that. I recently purchased their Making of Night At The Opera DVD. Very enjoyable. Mostly behind the scene stuff, interviews with engineers, producer; and of course, Brian May and Roger Taylor. They talk about doing some weird stuff like playing back a song into some headphones that are in a metal pan, there is also a microphone in the metal pan recording what is coming out of the headphones--that is the sound that went on the album for that particular song (Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon).
  22. Out of boredom, I googled worlds best speakers. Ofcourse, hoping to see KLIPSCH mentioned, I encounted an article from e-opinion that narrowed it down to twoMagnepan and B&W. Got to admit, the Magnepans are flat and look cooldont know a thing about this ribbon-driver technology. Anyone ever heard a pair of these? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Here is their conclusion: This review will focus on the two most widely known speakers in the world. By most, they are considered the greatest ever built, but they aren't the most expensive. They both cost around $10,000 a pair, so because of the price similarity, I will compare the Magnepan MG20.1 and B&W Nautilus 801 series speakers. THE VERDICT -In Conclusion- *Well, if I could spend $10,000 on speakers right now, I'd have to go with the Magnepans. They had more emphasis on the higher ranges. I know that bass can always be taken care of with a powered subwoofer. But really, for $10,000 you simply can't go wrong. B&W and Magnepan are not like Bose, these are truly some of the greatest speakers in the world. However, I like the Maggies better because the midrange and high ranges are cleaner, and the vocals are also the most realistic with the Magnepans. However, the B&Ws are capable of giving out more powerful bass. Overall, any of these speakers will make you happy. But if you really love vocals and instrumentals, then the Maggies will suit you best.
