Get him to try a different source or dvd, to see if the problem is source related. ---------------- I agree with michaels quote above being the main culprit. There may also be room issues that minn_male42 and jacksonbart observed. I have just tried the Faith Hill DVD that I mentioned, on both of my RC-7's. In my bedroom (where my wife made the initial comment) the "exaggerated S" is apparent. In this room the RC-7 sits on top of a cabinet within 2 feet of the ceiling. In my main HT where I have a high A-frame ceiling, the RC-7 sits on top of my TV. I can hear the "S," but no where near as distracting as in my bedroom.

During dialogue, I hear a lisping sound. When people are speaking, the S and TS sounds are very shrill, like a lisp." ---------------- There is a Faith Hill DVD that I love called "When the lights go down." I must have listened to it 20 times when I asked my wife what she thought of the DVD. Her response was "I don't like the way she pronounces her "S's." I scoffed thinking, there's nothing wrong with how Faith pronounces "S's." Ever since that time when I watch the DVD, I zero in on that particular thing (for a second, then I forget about it and enjoy the video;-), and she's right--It almost sounds like Faith is over-enunciating the "S's." It doesn't sound abnormal as much as it sounds hyper-clear. I own 2 RC-7's. I will check it out later and post If I notice a difference in the 2 center speakers.
  3. I have both the RC-3 and the Klf-c7. IMHO the c-7 is a more dynamic speaker, and an upgrade. I have the c-7 in a large workout room (1500 sq. ft/no furniture) with high ceilings. The mains I am using are the Klf-20's, with a ksw-15 sub. I run mine at "Large," and it works nicely. Your situation with K-Horns and a Velodyne sub makes me think that if your sub is closer to your center speaker and your TV, that "Small" may work better for you. I know if I owned K-horns, I would update my systems file on the website.
  4. I like the sound of Denon Receivers with Klipsch. I don't know if the European model numbers correspond with what they release here in the US--But the Denon 3805 should be in that price range. It allows you to have 2 sets of side surround speakers as well as Back surrounds. I have 9 speakers and 2 subwoofers hooked up to mine and it Rocks for music and Movies are excellent.

The vendor who sold me the TV told me (an hour ago) to turn off the TV (To pull the electricity plug out) for about 15 hours and move the speakers away from the TV. He is positive that the front speakers are responsible for this problem (He sells Klipsch loudspeakers as well). I'll try it tonight. But anyway, if the speakers are magnetically shielded, how come I get discolor at all? Regards, Ofir ---------------- Ofir, In my opinion if he said unplug the TV for 15 hours then plug it back in then he's not certain the culprit is the speakers. I had the "shielding" problem with my subwoofer. The pattern on the TV visibly moved as I moved the sub farther away from the TV. That is when I learned that the sub was not shielded (nor was it advertised to be). Your Klipsch speakers are supposed to be shielded. {edit: That's not to say that a mistake wasn't made at the factory on this particular set of speakers} One way to find out is to move the speakers completely away from the TV (don't worry about the sound at this point--just test the picture) and then turn the TV on. What you are describing doesn't sound like a "shielding" issue to me.
  7. Welcome to the forum. All 3 of your front speakers are supposed to be magnetically shielded, from my understanding. This might seem like a dumb question, but when you move the speakers away from the TV does the color revert back to normal?
  8. ---------------- On 4/15/2005 12:20:41 PM imperfectcircle25 wrote: Wow you have a pair of 15in woofers in that room!....Im hoping the RF-7's will have a bigger sound with more impact than my RF-3's, has this been your experience?? ---------------- I have to admit, I am into overkill. For movies they ROCK. Like the others on this post have said, It really is an upgrade in sound presence. The larger horn and the 2 10 inch woofers in the RF-7 make everything seem more dynamic.
  9. ---------------- On 4/14/2005 4:19:05 PM imperfectcircle25 wrote: Wow that space is really small. You dont find the bass overwelming on bass heavy music?? ---------------- No, in fact I have 2 subs in this room.Both RSW's are usually only turned half way up for music, and setting the crossover at 60 Hz helps. I think the corner placement of my fronts and having an A-frame ceiling adds something acousticly as well. I also have the RF-7's (and RF-3's) raised off of the floor, so I get more direct sound. I know several people who have looked at the pictures and shake their head in disbelief--The ones who actually experience the sound first hand become believers. I wish my pictures would have uploaded better.
  10. I have mine paired with a KLF c-7, KSW 15, and 2 RC-3's in my 1500 sq. ft workout room. All powered by a Denon 3803 receiver--All I can say is...Spectacular
  11. I realize that we evidently are looking for something different in a speaker. That being said, I like FEELING bass more than I like hearing it. For 2 channel music (as well as 5.1) I set my crossover at 60 Hz and turn my subs down slightly. I also understand our hearing is different, but I don't think I am missing anything in the midrange. Our rooms are also completely different insofar as I have a small room with a high A-frame ceiling. My RF-7's sit 8 feet apart, slightly toed in.I have them raised 3 inches off the floor. The front of the speaker is budded up against 2 obstacles that essentially makes a corner. Picture of it is at: http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?mode=viewtopic&topicID=50686&num=30&sessionID={6A00FFA0-2A66-401A-83A7-8C8278AFB911}&pageNo=20 "Front stands" shows the front. Man that picture sucks! I am going to have to do something about that after I finish my taxes, but I digress. My point is that you can fit Rf-7's in a small room and they can sound great. Raising them off the floor may help with what you don't like in the 10 inch woofers and still appreciate the mid's you are looking for. I understand you are still looking at the RF-5's, but as far as a real upgrade is concerned, don't discount the RF-7. If you don't like them you still have the 30 day return policy. Good luck on whatever decision you make.
  12. I didn't realize THIS post was about THAT, or I would have responded sooner. I enjoyed the thread and I thought the violent language was metaphorical. I for one, sit out here in cyberspace, shaking my head (in agreement) on the substance of that thread and the reason for it's deletion puzzles me. Oh well, I'm not the playground monitor
  13. ---------------- On 4/13/2005 6:09:44 PM imperfectcircle25 wrote: BTW(you really cant tell much about how a speaker will sound by the spec sheet, a really good speaker might have bad specs but sound great and vice versa.) Is there anyone in here that is more into 2channel audio rather than home theater?? Seems like most people in here are home theater people? ---------------- I agree you can't tell how a speaker will sound by the spec sheet. I was just giving you a point of reference. They are both made by the same company and with the exception of the larger horn in the RF-5's they appear to be close to the same speaker. I considered going with the RF-5's, but after listening to them in the showroom I didn't hear ANY difference. Your hearing may be better and I suggest you go listen to it and see. Fish heard a difference and so may you.
  14. ---------------- On 4/13/2005 2:13:46 PM J.4knee wrote: Save your money and get the RF7's ---------------- I agree. I own the RF-3's and I like them alot. I use to have them as my mains and now I am using them as side surrounds. Looking at the spec sheet, the RF-5's may be a slight upgrade at most. Save up for the RF-7's which are definitely an upgrade. {edit: BTW welcome to the forum }
  15. While my wife is logging her tax information in TurboTax, I thought I would revive this Thread while listening to "Automatic for the people." After being so impressed with the REM greatest hits, but realizing one of my favorite songs wasn't on it, I decided to buy their DVD-Audio, "Automatic for the people." The song is "Drive." The remix in 5.1 sounds wonderful! As stated earlier I wasn't a big fan before, but I can't help think that people who are fans would like this DVD-A as well. Folks that weren't big fans, may want to stay with the Greatest hits which still is in my DVD-A/SACD rotation. My recent excursion to Bestbuy gave me a glimmer of hope because they had restocked some of their High-Rez titles. Still slim pickens, but maybe complaining when I go in there about lack of inventory is paying off.
  16. Oh well--No religious posts to subscribe to. I had better get back to my taxes

Or does the RF-5 match up with Reference 7 series speakers well? I probably would prefer towers on the side, but I suppose having four of the matched speakers which also match the R/C/L well would provide benefits that the RF-5's couldn't provide, but i'm not sure. ---------------- I am very anal about my HT and have tried ALOT of different situations. IMO All of the Reference speakers mentioned match well and I for one enjoy the power of towers. The RF-3 and RF-5's have the same size woofers as the RC-7 and RS-7's.
  18. I tried the RB-75's as side surrounds compared to my RF-3 Towers, but in my room I like the Towers more than the bookshelves. I would move the RB-75's to the back. I see the RF-3's are discontinued so you may be able to pick up a pair at a good deal--If not I would try to get the RF-5's at a good deal to use as your side surrounds. I watch alot of movies, but listen to more music and this set up works fantastic for me. Hard to beat Towers all the way around.{edit:I also have a small room with a high ceiling.YMMV.}
  19. fini, I am sorry for your loss and I agree with what everyone has posted so far. I can only imagine that your mom is looking down and smiling...Stay strong over the next few months and cherish the memories the rest of your life.
  20. I "Tested" a reply in your other thread
  21. AUTiger, Your cabinetry is simply beautiful and your photography does it justice. I have a similar set up as you in my bedroom with the RB-75's siting on dressers flanking a Samsung 46 in. DLP that fits snugly in a cabinet that matches the dressers. My Phase tech sub sits in between the 2 with my Denon 3805 sitting on top of it. I have nice furniture, nice speakers, but very out in the open and conspicuous. You don't need me telling you that you've done admirable work. I was going to post pictures but I am going to wait for some posts to separate our 2 HT's
  22. Stephen, Very nice work!!! The front looks really well done. Needless to say I bet those subs can really kick some Bass! I am curious why you didn't use RF-7's for the front. Isn't this also your "B" system? Does Steve & Becky's Home Theater still exist? Inquiring minds would like to know...
  23. Howdy from Texas, USparc: You have a nice setup. Very clean looking. I particularly like your slanted wood ceiling with your RF-3's/RC-3-- Extremely attractive and I bet it sounds killer. I run 4 towers in my HT (2 RF-7's& 2 RF-3's) as well. What do you mean by "full reloaded," RF-3's?
