  1. Hey all, for really amazing superb hi fidelity audiophile grade material, check out Ray Charles"Genius loves company" on Monster Dual disc( I know, monster sucks but this really kicks serious butt). tracks are in DD 5.1, Dts 96/24(best) and HI RES stereo. Best thing too is that the material is just wicked....honestly this is one smoking disc....OUCH!!
  2. Ron, welcome to the forum. Because Klipsch speakers are so efficient, your receiver will drive your new speaks just fine. However, depending on how old said receiver is and what its capable of(DD,DTS,etc) it may or may not be what you want. Try it out and see how it sounds, you will not damage the speakers at normal volumes, just don't crank the snot of it as it may clip and this may potentially harm the speakers. One can purchase an excellent receiver these days for quite cheap. Depending on bells and whistles and WPC...expect to pay $700(less on a sale or older model that has what you want) and up for a good one. Some well regarded names here are, HK,Yamaha,Denon, Pioneer Elite. Hope this helps, you are gonna love your new speaks!
  3. Skistud, Hi again, a good capable Receiver (with pre-outs for use as a pre/pro if you get an amp) is all you need right off the bat. Any receiver around $800 and up should have these and have plenty of power initially. Some popular brands here are Harmon/Kardon(much understated power), Yamaha, Denon and Pioneer Elite. I run the 83's with a Yammy rated at 130 wpc which is more likely closer to 55wpc and sounds awesome. However, I am currently waiting for my new Emotiva MPS-1 to arrive (200wpc for real x 5channels) and it is a bargain and extremely well rated, I' ll let you all know.
  4. I have the Oppo 971H, replaced by the 981(1080P capable and SACD plus DVD Audio), PQ is superb as is Sound. If you have HDMI ensure you go 981, the 970 is cheaper but no Farouda chip which is what really makes the thing fly.
  5. Hi all, I second or third the buy the best speakers you can afford idea, they are the most crucial part of your system. As of note, only the RF83 and RC64 are made in the USA, all other REF series are made overseas. However, I own the RC62(not for much longer, upgrade to 64 imminent..lol) and can say that the build quality and sound is top notch with no corners cut. Enjoy! and send us pics and comments... Chris.
  6. Supposed to get about a foot up here In Waterloo, Ontario as well...better not interfere with my amp getting here!
  7. The 82's are a great speaker, but the two are not in the same ball park. The 63's are alot closer in performance but I have never heard them. The 83's just flat out rock with tons of deep extended bass, nice smooth mids and very delicate highs,Pianos sound like pianos and cymbal crashes are so crisp and the wack of the drumstick hitting the skin of a big tom tom is just insane. You need big boxes for big sound, its that simple.Just remember that the 83's are huge, 50" tall, very deep and heavy, 100lbs each!! The 82's look dwarfed when side by side. If its in your budget its the 83's for sure. Just MHO.
  8. Hey Skistud, Welcome to the madness! I have not had the pleasure of hearing the THX system, but can say that the Rf83's which I own are friggin amazing, not much else to say really except I suspect you will be happy with either purchase.
  9. Hi Fish, thanks alot for your input. Makes me feel really good about the purchase. I have done alot of research on buying an amp and its great to get another users opinion besides the reviewers thoughts. Thanks again. One other thing, is your Cambridge 640 the CD player? If so, is it worth the cash? Big difference from say the OPPO 971 or similar for CD fidelity? Now, the pain of waiting continues..lol. Went out and bought a set of Audioquest cables for the pre-outs, so I'm all ready when it arrives.
  10. Hey Arky, thanks. yes just the Yammy receiver at the moment, Gene at Audioholics says the Rx-V2500 , and I quote "is a phenominal pre/pro"...me happy.
  11. Hey all, pulled the trigger and ordered my new Emotiva MPS-1 ,5 channel X 200watt amp, will let you know how it works later in the week(I hope)....you know UPS. Those 83's are gonna do some singing now!!!...lol
  12. It will be just fine. just try to balance all your line levels, with an spl if possible.
  13. Wow! What a fantastic looking HT, very nicely done indeed, bet its an awesome experience. Congrats. Chris.
  14. Nice gear man! I would kill anyone who put vases on my speakers[8o|]
  15. Yes, without a doubt, at least on my system. Steve Miller' Fly Like an Eagle 30th Anniversary edition is DD5.1 and is truly audiophile quality. The Police in DTS is also excellent. Being a Monster non believer I have to say that their DD5.1 and DTS96 5.1 version of Ray Charles "Genius Loves Company" is so far the best sound I have heard from my system to date, it has to be heard to be believed. This includes the few DVD Audio discs that I have and some very excellent concerts on DVD. The Beatles "Love" is also very good(not sure about the mixes though) but considering the age of this stuff is a work of art.
  16. Getech, if you call Bryston "toys" then you are VERY ignorant indeed, take your poor sales pitch elsewhere, a good salesman with a good product would NEVER slam the competition especially in one foul swoop such as you....go away!!
  17. Jim, alot of the CRT stuff was /is liquid cooled, my Samsung 42" is.
  18. Hey Arky, so you really like the Outlaw stuff? Fantastic sound? Details please!...gettin ancy for my new amp Chris.
  19. Hi folks, I too have the 83's driven by a Yamaha RX-v2500 rated at 130wpc(more like 50-60 most likely). Ok, so far they sound friggin awesome but I also know they could use alot better amplification, guys where I bought them from said" you haven't even heard them yet". So, after much research I am shortly going to add either an Outlaw Audio 7500(5x200wpc for real) or an Emotiva MPS-1 (5,6,7 channel options x200wpc). Anyone have any thoughts as to what I am going to experience with this upgrade while using my Yamaha as a pre/pro for a temp. solution. I'm thinking its going to be mind blowing. I have the Rc62 center and it is truly a piece of art in sonic reproduction, and yes I have heard the 64 and its even better, all in good time my friends...lol.
  20. Heya folks, my coolest car which wasn't fast but you didn't have to brake for corners was a 1972 Triumph Spitfire, it was as close to a go cart for handling as one can get. However, much cooler were the seven brand new Honda Motorcycles I have owned which in order were....Honda CB400 Hawk, CB750F,CB900F,CB1100F, VFR 750, and 2 dirt bikes XR200 and XR200 Trike...lol.What was I thinking?
  21. Hiya Michael, actually I was thinking of coming down for a visit one of these days, not sure if I can make the Pilgrimage, depends on my work schedule. Would love to meet you guys and check out Klipsch and or some of your setups. Kindest Regards, Chris G.
  22. Hi all, was In Indy on Sat morning for a quick 40 minute turn and back to Toronto, on the ATIS(automatic terminal information service) weather, runway in use etc, it had at the end of the message GO COLTS!..thought it was nice to see some personality from the FAA. Anyway, as a huge Klipsch fan and feeling a connection to that city, I wish you and your team all the best! Regards, Chris
  23. I would think you get what you pay for? Klipsch seems pretty good to me in this regard but I have no experience with this series.
  24. Hi all, hate to brag[], but my Rf83's friggin pound out the bass with or without the Paradigm PW2200 adding to the mix, did I mention this is a real bad a** sub?
  25. Hi there and congrats on a great purchase, I'm sure you will have alot of fun with your system.Rock those 82's!
