  1. Thanks russ69 I have a set of Transmission Line Subs for my home theatre I will wire them up and see if this helps
  2. Thanks mikebse2a3 for your suggestions. I put the swaped the polarity on the left horn out of phase and the bass was even worse. Yes the speakers were purches back in 2002 and I had them in a room with a wooden floor and stone walls. Now they are on a concrete floor with drywall. The bass was better in the room with a wooden floor.
  3. Thanks pzannucci for the advice. I have traced all the connections from the preamp to the crossovers and all the wiring is in phase. Everything sounds great to about 250hz then it rolls off somehow. I wonder if the problem is the amps running at such a low power output. The CAD211's are 150 watt a channel but barely tick over with the KHorns. Could the output transformer be the problem?
  4. I have just set up my system in the new lounge room. The walls are Drywall and Floor carpet on Concrete slab. Both KHorns are pushed tightly into each corner and the rear soundboard fits snugly all thw way down. I checked this by pulling the speakers away and you could see two rubber marks from the sound board running the full length on thw wall. I did note that with the KHorns in place there is an even space of 1/2 an inch detween the walls and the top horn unit from front to back. I cant push the speakers back any more as the soundboard is hard into the corners. The Bass at the moment is terrible, just nothing there. Each KHorn is driven with a Cary CAD 211 Mono Tube Poweramps hooked to a Cary SLP 05 Tube Preamp. Given the room width I use a SET monoblock to run a Klipsh Heresy as a summed mono center. I have checked polarity and have run out of ideas. Room dimensions are 26 feet wide X 22 feet deep X 12 high Any ideas?
  5. Hi biglaz, checkout this review http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/t-amp_e.html I have used a small Sonic Impact T Amp 15 watt per chanel unit on my KHorns. To me they sound like a transistor equivalent to a Single Ended Triode amp. Cheers
  6. Found the details for you. There are 2 dealers in or near Australia. 7. Hi mate, The main dealer for Klipsch in OZ is Harvey Norman. The importer is Powermove Technology I think. Go to the Klipsch site and look up international dealers that will give you the name of the importer. I bought my Klipschorns and Heresy 111 from Harvey Norman and they have been great to deal with. Good luck John
  8. Hi Garyrc, I use True Audio Specum Analyzer. Here is the link http://www.trueaudio.com/ You will need a laptop and a good microhone
  9. I have had a set of the Shanlings for over a year now and they brilliant value for money. I have them driving a pair of Heresy III speakers. They are quiet, accurate with good solid bass. I dont think you could go wrong having a pair of these amps.
  10. I have the Nitty Gritty. Compact easy to operate and most importantly does a great job lifting muck from the tracks of my records. Here is the link http://www.nittygrittyinc.com/
  11. I live in Outback Australia and paid $16,000.00 wholesale for a pair of Klipschorns. God I wish I lived in the USA. The Paladiums are $50,000 are pair out here....what a rip off
  12. I use iTunes on my windows PC. It allows you to stream mymusic to any PC/Apple in the house. I use Apple Lossless codec but FLAC is becoming a popular codec for hi quality master recordings. Take a look at www.linnrecords.com and take a look at what is happening with music downloads. Windows media player has lossless codecs as well but Aplle Lossles and FLAC are really taking off. Ripping your CD's to your computer is the best way to go. You can listen to your collection anywhere you want in the house, if you have wireless network. Now that recordings are available in quality that is higher than CD's I would recommend using iTunes or Windows store and manage your files and download your music.
  13. Hi smokarz I have a Asus Xonar soundcard with SPDIF output. The problem is my preamp and amplifiers are valve so I need the DAC to convert the digital signal to analogue.
  14. I would recommend FLAC and Apple Lossless if you use iTunes. The trick is to use the best bit depth 16-24 and the best sample rate 44.5-192khz the higher sample rate the better. If you go to http://www.linnrecords.com/ you can download Studio Master Recordings at 24bit 192kz which is the closest you will get to human hearing. There is a real movement downloading high quality recordings that surpase CD quality. You will need a high quality sound card like an ASUS Xonar or Creative X-Fi that has optical or Sony SPDIF output and a high quality DAC like the Cary Xciter DAC. The way it is going now the CD i dead. I think ultra high quality downloads will spell the death knell for this low resolution 80's technology.
  15. The best audio extraction software is a program called EAC which stands for "Exact Audio Copy" it will rip a CD at 99.999% accuracy. This is achieved because the program will compensate for reading errors in the CD Drive. It will then compress the sound file in any format you like. I would recommend Apple Lossless or FLAC (which is rapidly becoming an audiophile favorite) or leave it as a WAV file. I use iTunes and have been happy with Apple Lossless codec which is not much different to FLAC. EAC is considered to be the most accurate ripping software available and it is free. Just go to http://www.exactaudiocopy.de to learn about it.
  16. I would recommend Linn Records http://www.linnrecords.com/ You can buy Studio Masters recorded at 192khz 24 bit digital which is the closest thing you will ever get to perfection in audio recording. Albums are available in FLAC or lossless WMA or MP3 if you really have too. Hi res audiophile recordings are out there for download and the price is pretty damn good. I hooked up a Cary DAC to my laptop and listen to recordings at a sampling rate that maked a CD sound like a casstte tape. Digital distrabution of music is the way forward and audiophile downloads grade recordings are out there at an affordable price.
  17. Looking at the photo its amazing to think my phone has more processing power than that computer
  18. I had a NAD 3020 and it was brilliant! it was a budget amp that blew a lot of high end amps out of the water. I Upgraded to a ME 25 Preamp and ME 550 power amp, which at the time were the most accurate amplifiers made in Australia. I found over time and with higher listening levels the sound got a little harsh with my KHorns. I bought a two mono SET valve amps custom made in Australia by David Whitby called the Mudlark A205's. From there I have bought Cary Valve amps and preamplifier and never looked back. I think its the freedom from negative feedback and the softer sound of the valve amp that has made me realize the investment in the KHorns was the best $16,000 I have ever spent. I just wish U.S. gear was cheaper in OZ
  19. I contatced a professional music store and purchased an ARK Stereo to Mono converter. The unit was $275 and sums the left and right channel into a balanced mono output. I have to make up some RCA to XLR adaptors but it is exactly what I need to feed a sumed mono signal to a mono centre channel amp.
  20. I agree that La Scalla or Belle would be the best but I will be divorced if I put anything bigger than a Heresy in the centre. I think what I will do is make up a Y cable that sums the preamp stereo output to mono and feed this into a mono SET amp that has its own gain control. That way I can adjust the level somewhat and compensate for the smaller size of the Heresy. Perhaps another aproach worth trying would be to wire in an electronic crossover and run the Heresy as a midrange/tweeter unit say 200 - 400hz and up. This might give me a little more efficency and help to fill out the soundstage. Would this work?
  21. I have a loungeroom being built that is 25 feet by 22 feet My KHorns are going into the corners of the long wall. Ceiling height is 12 foot and the walls are Drywall. I have a pair of Cary 211 monoblocks driving the KHorns and want to put a single Heresy III in the centre of the room wired to the positive terminal of each Cary 211 to help with the stereo imaging. I hope the difference in sensitivity 99db/1 watt for the Heresy's and 105db/1 watt for the Khorns will work without the need for a volume adjustment on the Heresy. I cant really put anything bigger in the centre of the room. Will the Heresy help to fill the hole or will I need to go with a Cornwall?
  22. Hi Rolly, I have KHorns and live in Broken Hill NSW. I recomend Cary Valve amps. Just bought a Cary 211 and own their 5watt Xciter amp/DAC unit which is just brilliant. I would recomend a store in Melbourne called Audiophile or click on http://www.audiophile.com.au/ and go to the Cary section. Khorns were made for valve amps. Shanling make a nice little integrated amp take a look at http://www.soundlabsgroup.com.au/c/60-Shanling-STP80/STP-80.html also check outhttp://www.aslanacoustics.com.au/Leben%20Details.htm otherwise you will have to hunt around the web for other manufacturers who sell good valve gear. If possible have a listen to a SET amp, went with push pull for the better bass responce but SET amps have to be heard to be believed.
  23. Thanks everyone for the advise. I will be meeting with the architect next week and will take along your suggestions
