  1. Have you ever seen the 1992 Spanish movie Jamon, Jamon? When the teenage girl found two nude teenage boys hiding in the bushes outside her door, she asked them what they were doing. "We were fighting the bull the right way, naked!" was the reply, since the local farmer had just come out to the bull's paddock and chased them off. She just told them to come in and put some clothes on, like it was an everyday event. Well, that's a Bigas Luna (director) movie for you. It was Penelope Cruz's first movie. Oh, wait a minute, jacksonbart. You were kidding! Fooled again... [:$]
  2. If you're thinking about buying something as expensive (and good-sounding) as a pair of Jubilees, the cost and trouble of removing a door and perhaps the doorway trim to get enough clearance to get them in the room should be a very minor factor.
  3. You said it! Sometimes the performer wants to take a break, but so many others make money off her that no-one wants her to stop working. It's nothing new. Marilyn Monroe was pushed to make movie after movie in spite of her protests that she needed some time off.
  4. In most case where you have two volume or level controls in the signal chain, one should be turned up all the way and the other control used to adjust the volume. Most power amps don't even have a level control. In my system, I'm using a 500Wpc power amp, controlled from the pre outs on my receiver. The higher power and higher quality of the power amp gives the music greater presence and clarity and I'm happy with it. The speakers are rated at 100 watts, but I've probably never put more than 2 or 3 watts of continuous power into them. As Michael pointed out, the high power comes into play during musical transients. It takes a surprising amount of power to make a drumbeat or rimshot sound realistic. Where I have to be very cautious is when switching inputs. The volume can be as high as -15dB when listening to the turntable (record cartridges usually have fairly low output), while -30 is pretty loud for a CD, so I turn down the volume whenever I switch inputs. Also, I make sure to turn the volume very low, to -72 or so, when I turn off the system. That way I won't get any nasty surprises the next time I power it up. Happy listening!
  5. I've been using a 2005 model Yamaha RX-V750 receiver with my La Scalas for a couple of years. The volume dials down to below a whisper when needed and has no audible noise at all. When I added a high-power Yamaha power amp, I had a bit of noise until I upgraded the receiver-to-amp interconnect, but all is quiet now. The sound is clean and clear. Updating the 1974 crossovers with Sonicaps made a very noticeable improvement in the sound.
  6. I don't think you'll be lonely. There seem to be lots of Klipschsters in Texas.
  7. No horns? No problem! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200195857170&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX&refitem=180210350981&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget
  8. The tap water here is nothing special, but after it runs through a Brita filter (the pitcher variety), it tastes pretty good, maybe even a little sweet. Money not spent on pop is available to buy more LPs and CDs...
  9. The problem is not the famous person, but all the vultures who collect around her, some out of curiosity, morbid or otherwise, but mostly for a chance to make some money, even if they put the celebrity or any bystanders at risk. There seems to be a huge market for news of every detail of famous people's lives, probably consisting of people disappointed with their own lives.
  10. I may have found that picture on the Audiophile Club of Athens website (www.aca.gr). Price-wise, if that owner can afford a big living room with 12-foot ceilings, budget may not be an issue...
  11. Perhaps the thread should have been titled "Bad Women vs Klipsch". Good women have no problem with them.
  12. jwcullison wrote: Islander, I would bet that Roy would help you if you go either route (K402 or K510). I'm willing to bet that the scala bass bin with a modern day Klipsch top horn will be a popular combination. I don't want to speak for him by any means. But I would love to see a passive for the K510/K69 on the scala. There are folks on here that might put one together for you or we can help you through it if a passive become available. If I go ahead with this and it sounds good and is affordable, it's an idea that could appeal to a number of people. If there was enough interest, meaning hundreds at least, it's imaginable that Klipsch could make a horn/driver/crossover combo available, but the demand would have to be there.
  13. This posting was unformattable, so I re-tried it and that is the next post. I'll be glad when this issue gets resolved.
  14. It's good to see we're getting back to the original question. Coytee, your offer is appreciated, but to get the full effect, along with tilting your head, you'd need to tilt the room so the 402 horn is interacting with the ceiling, floor and walls in the vertical mode to see if you could hear the difference. There's bound to be a difference, but is it huge or miniscule? On-axis, does a horizontal 510 horn sound as good as, or maybe even better, than a vertical 402 horn in a typical-sized room with an 8-foot ceiling at a listening distance of 13 feet? That's about as specific as I can be. Thanks for all the input so far.
  15. Yeah, they make the chairs look like doll-house furniture. It's good to have some pictures like this on hand to show how small Heritage speakers really are.
  16. That picture may be just for illustration purposes, but it sure looks like a lost-time injury waiting to happen.
  17. Isn't the Jubilee crossed over around 8-900Hz in most cases? Would a La Scala bass bin with K-33 work well as high as that?
  18. Just how is it better? I'm not doubting you, just curious as to specifics.
  19. Sounds like a jazz player with a blues lifestyle.
  20. Nice outfit, Montigue! It should give you lots of listening pleasure. No need to feel that you got a bargain at someone else's expense. The seller needed the money more than the speakers at that point.
  21. I've read that the price of the K-69/K402 combo is around $1000. If you don't mind me asking, what's the price of the K510 with driver and what driver does it come with, if not the K-69?
  22. Thanks for the links, Max. Someone else commented about the views always showing as zero and Amy responded that they were trying to fix that feature, without much success so far.
  23. There's also a version that shows only the platter. It's called the 33 1/3: http://www.fludwatches.com/product-details.php?pid=52&cid=5
  24. The Club de Jub, where all the Jubenile delinquents hang out!
