  1. i know with the holidays the wallet can be taxed. i'll be the first to suggest, the Emotiva line. right now it's too good to pass up. the deals are increadable. get the UMC-200 and either the 5 or 7 channel amp. not going to suggest a specific amp, just go with the one your wallet can afford. you will never look back! check the emotiva forums for the "For Sale" section, and you might even get a better deal. watch out for shipping though. emotiva has free shipping sometime. UMC-200 UPA-700 OK, i know i said i wouldn't suggest one, but this would be great. that's $928 (FREE SHIPPING TOO!) and you would have a 7.1 set up and would almost "never" need to upgrade. if you are being adventurous you can scope out the 40% off coupon from emotiva (you have to find someone like me who bought the upa-1 and received the 40% upgrade card....no i am not offering me! lol) and buy it from them. for you that would save you $200. not sure if someone would sell theirs for $100, but you never know. i am waiting to use mine on the XMC-1 which would save me $800! anyways, welcome to the forums and i hope you enjoy the gear you have.
  2. Youth, just started reading this.....i have extra screws and spacers. i took my RC-7 crossover apart and wired it so they are seperated. i don't need mine. want them? they are free. pm, email, text, call.... edit: nevermind. i simply didn't pay attention. your cup is broken and spacers is not what you need. unless you want to glue them or something. my bad.
  3. i have one of these too, you are dead on, they are great. i have mine for sale, but being honest, i don't want to part with it. it's nicely boxed up and it's nice to know when or even if i will need another amp, i have it on stand by! good luck on your sale!
  4. updated. i will also be able to make any of the power cables much longer if needed. i now have access to more of the power wire. unless the request is outrageous i'll make them at any length. again, i'm trying to get rid of my extras. thanks again my fellow K-Heads. edit: i forgot to add this, i now apply a thick layer of Aluminum tape to the connector body, which makes it 100% shielded. my current cables are made that way, along with my TV power cable. that cable is the one that makes the most sense to have that way.

i also would like to know why people think "post count" = intelligence. just because people on here don't make a comment on just about every post doesn't discredit their knowledge or experience. i enjoy coming hear and simply reading responses. with the search function i usually find the answer to a question that has been asked 100 times. it is nice to post a "what if" or "feeler" question to get a good idea on a subject, but i won't take the advice of a guy that has 10k posts over a guy that has 3 posts simply based on that number. i personally believe high posts counts means you like to talk to people on here, not your constantly giving sound advice. (lol). (okay, that was bad). Trevor, i personally would have put a complaint in and asked for some type of apology. i'm a grown A** man and would not take kindly to such an insult. shame on who ever that was, especially such a "veteran."
  6. if you really like the heresy's, then you should go for them. i'm assuming since you only want a pair, they are going to be more for music? what do you think about a reference speaker? maybe a RF-3 or the new models (RF-3II,RF-42II, RF-42, RF-15). i think all of those would make a great "mod" speaker, if you are into that. you can tailor the sound in them very easily. or possibly a KLF 20 for a nice 3 way. those come up often and usually on the cheaper side, at least i believe they are with in your budget.
  7. + for correct settings. if you set your mains up right, it will sound like you have a phantom center. i was going to only have my front mains this go around, but i'm going to try the whole 3.1 experience. not sure how long it will last, but i'll see how it goes. i have to first set everthing up right and get all my cables done. when i just had my onkyo 805, i thought something was missing, so i bought a LPA-1. i bi-amped and was content (for a while) with the results. i then un bi-amped because i didn't want to run double the wires for the front 3. i did loose a little there, but not enough to warrent the extra hassel and cost of more wire (i was in the process of changing out the current speaker wire for "better" wire). i still felt i wasn't getting everthing out of my system. i even had a crossover upgrade at this point. i took evreyone advice and chose a "warmer" upgrade, but still wasn't happy. it wasn't until i chose the right caps (for my likes), umc, and xpa-3, along with all the upgrade cables before i was actually happy. it also took a lot of fine adjustements and setting to get everything right. keep in mind i had an open livingroom so there was only so far it could go. if you feel you are "missing something" try to get your settings right, then try possibly an amp. some might suggest a different receiver. you may just not like the sound of an onkyo. i didn't like mine in 2CH music. HT, it was "good".
  8. how about a UMC-1 for around $325 that is tuned in? (if you know how to do that).
  9. on my set up, i set the front 3 the same, and the surrounds 1db higher. seems, to me, sound better for surround sound.
  10. i had 4 of them as surrounds, and my 7's didn't over power them. if you use a SPL meter and set them right, you shouldn't have any issues with most speaker combinations.
  11. lol, was joking about waiting. didn't really think they already have something planned. i think the "upgrade" will really come down to where you want to go in the long run. if you are happy with the umc but want it a touch better and then stay at that level for a long time, than the umc200, i think, would be the best choice. however, if at some point you want actualy balanced cables, and much better room correvtion (and all the upgraded the umc200 has) than the XMC just has to be the right option. for me, i am going to wait until the xmc is on sale and hopefully with free shipping, before i buy one. even though i don't need one now, i might need one later on down the road. good luck with your choice!
  12. +1 for "lateral" move. Called them and talked their ear off for a few hours. The main differences: 3D, Zero legacy video inputs, faster video/ audio switching, and HDMI 1.4. That's it. It has been reviewed that it sounded better, but that's always subjective. It does have a better EMQ, but using a SPL meter is "about" the same. Now, XMC, bigger difference. It does have a fully balanced XLR (BUT, its only useful with the newer amps), so my XPA-3 would "need" to be upgraded. The other main huge improvement is the new "EMQ" set up. Its not "EMQ" (forgot the name) but it constantly does room correction while playing movies/music/ media/ etc. Was told its a newer engine that's only in the upper upper class of processors. I really suggest u give them a call, they seem more than happy to talk about it. I personally wanted the XMC, but since I downgraded to 3.1, I'll get no real benefits. I did like your math earlier, the 25% off (for life) was something I never considered (the "for life" part). I think I'm going to just wait and see what comes out after the XMC.
  13. UPDATE: built and sent out 2 cables. had to remove the "sale pending" the cables were simply too short. i can make longer cables with what i have. i have enough wire to make a 52" (total 54" long) 12 awg twisted 4N cable. i also can make some 14 awg cables if you want some processor or something other than amp cables. i can also make a 4 ea 14 awg star quad cable for amps.
  14. too bad you don't want to trade! lol i am looking to down size my 7's to the 61's.
