  1. I'm in Lincoln, 50 min drive. Have emailed and waiting to hear back. t
  2. Congratulations on the sweet deal, I have an older model of the Merlin and compared it with the lastest version of the BBX last weekend. Have to say pretty substantial difference, so much so I have a BBX on the way. I thought the older Merlin was sweets, so I would guess the Hot Rod will be well worth the price you gave for it. You and somebody else is going to end up a great pre amp if you can only hold on to one. Take your time they both have their merits. Tom
  3. I like the quote that was attributed to Henry Ford, "they can have it in any color they want, as long as it's black." KIS. I have a Merlin and I'm saving up for the BBX, aluminium or black, make no difference to me. I'm buying one because of it's performance. t
  4. Jeff, my sons graduation is over, when are we going to get together and listen to the BBX and La Scala's do their thing? Tom
  5. Congratulations, enjoy them. They have great bass responce, I can only speak for the Forte II's, but I would guess the I's are there as well. Tom
  6. Earl, I'm interested in the La Scala's as well. I live in Lincoln NE and willing to drive. Tom
  7. Worth checking out. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ele/325432801.html t
  8. Dave you are a lucky man. I picked up a Merlin from a forum memeber a month ago and I have been nothing but totally pleased with it. Mark certainly knows what he is doing when it comes to pre amps. From the reports I've read on the forum he has nailed it with the Pcat as well. I'm using the Merlin with a HK Citation 12 SS and Forte II's, detail and realism is better than is was with my Cayin TA 30 integrated. I'ld like to find a pair of La Scala's, with in driving distance of Lincoln NE, to pair up with the Merlin. Good luck. Tom
  9. James, did you ever do an A/B comparison with and without the switch system, how did it effect your sound quality? t
  10. Thanks for the recommendations, I will look into the speaker selector. Do you have a good source the Niles and the service manual? t
  11. The thump occurs no mater what I turn off first or last, there are only fuses no switches. I'm certain it has nothing to do with the Merlin, other than they make beautiful music together. I think it's like Mark says, that's the way those old amps run. My concern is damage to the speakers. I first ran the HK through a pair of NHT Three's and had a similar problem, but not to the extreme as the Forte's. Mark, is there any recourse? Is there anything wrong with letting it sit there and idle? Shorten it's life? t
  12. I have a Harman Kardon Citation 12 power amp that I'm using with a Merlin pre (I love it) and Forte II's. I know there was a thread a couple weeks ago about the shut down sequence (follow the source). I have tried several ways and nothing will eleminate that thump. Right now I'm just leaving the amp on all the time. Any suggestions, do I need too have the amp looked at. t
  13. That was stupid of me. I'm interested in the LaScala's. Tom
  14. After hearing a pair last weekend I'm Interested. Let me know when you have a price and pictures. e-mail me @ tkeady@neb.rr.com Tom
  15. I'm looking at a pair of La Scalla's with a serial # of 27W549 & 27W250. Best I can tell from a search on the forum is that the W stands for the year producted, which I think is 1981. Can anyone advise? t
  16. After our conversation last night I'ld like to set up a listening session. Give me a call and we can set a time. t
  17. I bought a pair of KG 4's for $100, brought them home set them up and A/B them with my Forte II's. The 4's lacked substancially on the high end compared to the Forte's. I know it's not far to compare the two, just my .02. t
  18. Very nice Keith, good luck with them. I'm sure you love em. Tom
  19. That's the kind of testimonial a guy like to hear. Thanks for your input. Tom
  20. Looking for a phono preamp to run with my Cayin TA30 and Thorens TD 160 TT. Seriously considering the JM Tercel. Anyone found a better sound for the money? Tom
