  1. Wow, someone could end up with a nice set of speaks for $700. I've got a set of cherry CF-4's made in late 95 that I've been pleased with since last summer. This is a speaker you want to set up once and forget, due to the size and heft of them. I often wonder how the KLF-30's sound compared to them - care to comment? Dale (in beautiful central WI)
  2. Is there a warranty card or serial # still on the unit? If so, I'd think a warranty would still be in effect. However, in some instances, you won't get a warranty since for one, you got the item cheaper than you could from an authorized dealer. The difference in price is what you have to figure what a warranty would cost you, and if you could get by without it. Electronics are basically pretty reliable, and power amps aren't lunar modules. 3. I've got H2's & F2's, and if they were the only speakers I had, I'd probably upgrade a pair.......But at least you got me thinkin' about it again...NP...Bob Dylan - Love & Theft..............................................................................................................
  4. A very interesting comparo - thank you. I heard RF-83's last fall and was amazed at the sound. It will be interesting to see how long the RF-XX series will run, and what Klipsch can possibly come up with to top that! But for now, your report can help narrow down the process for a system that fits your room & budget.
  5. There is nothing wrong with your NAD. It is being asked to perform above it's operating limits, hence, the unit shutting down prior to damage. I would also be concerned about speaker damage if your NAD clips the output. I think most people would agree that anything over 50% volume is asking for trouble................. Sounds like you need MORE POWER - can you add an outboard amp? .......................................
  6. I'd probably look thru the "Home Theater" section, and maybe post the necessary info there, and what kind of system is in the $4k range. If you haven't already been looking at models here, I'd check out a Klipsch dealer and find a 5.1 option and do some price checking. Good luck with your room and "sound" choice! .........NP - D.A.D. - helpyourselfish..................................................
  7. Here is some add'l info from the 1991 AUDIO directory: 12" woof, 4" cone mid, 3/4 x 2.5" Heil AMT, separate Mid & Treble controls, freq resp 28 - 23, eff 93, crossovers @ 380 & 2k, impedence 6 nominal, 4 min, 14 x 12 x 34", finish type was optional, and weight 65#. LIst price $600 pair in late 1991. NP - Replacements "Let It Be"
  8. I usually start with a price point, and with that in mind, I looked at something from either Klipsch, SVS, or HSU. After a week of looking around, I picked a HSU model to run with my Heresy/Forte/KG4 pairs. I'll know more in a couple of weeks as it was just ordered, but there is plenty out there in any price range. Someone with subwoofage history should run into this thread in a while that has actual experience!.........................................NP....Sandinista!.............................
  9. I don't know how our local CC stays in business either - I was there today snooping around and they've got a lot of open floor space. Their so-called "listening room" is a joke. I buy the occasional loss-leader specials on DVD's or music, or a few blank cdr's when on sale. . . .. . . . .. . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. . . . .. . . . . ....
  10. I don't mind seeing ads listed for local Klipsch available, to anyone in the area. I would think someone with interest in them would at least offer what he thought was fair and take it or leave it. I auditioned some KG4's back in the mid 80's, and I could have gotten a pair for $440. I found my pair of Walnut KG4's at a rummage sale a few years ago, and were in excellent shape except for 1 of the 8" k-8-k's were inoperative. I've gotten my speaker pairs down to 6, so I've been rotating them in and out of the main system every few weeks. I did see a local pair of KG 5.5's come up in the local Bargain Bulletin for $300, but it is silly to get "another" pair, and have to give something else up. (Unless it's a rare pair of the 1974 Cornwall ABR, which is the Albino Birch Raw model. Someday!) BTW, I'm up in the Appleton area, usually perusing the Craigslistings from Oshkosh to Green Bay!
  11. I would not wish that on anyone, but maybe in the future, electrical companies should BURY the cables instead of installing ugly poles, with wires from here to there and everywhere hanging, drooping, and causing problems with normal seasonal ice, snow, wind, etc. Plus, they would not have to repair the things in some of the worst weather imaginable. Yuck!...................... NP - Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops..........
  12. If Fremer was a "real" man, he'd bypass the fuse(s) altogether.
  13. Being a tightwad, I'd be apt to use regular lampcord, or any kind of inexpensive speaker wire. Heck, there should be free speaker wire in every box of speakers! As for Monster, they're such a rude and uppity brand filing lawsuits left and right. Right up there with Bose for me. BTW, I don't shop at BB anymore either (and I soon may be deemed a hermit!) NP - SAHB - Next
  14. A Perfect Circle's "Thirteenth Step" is a fine recording, similar to Tool, as it's a side project of the lead singer. I could not believe the bass my Heresies were pumping out, everything just jumped out at me. SVSsubwoofers website has a list of recordings they recommend to test your system and equipment. .....................NP - Rough Cutt, via 1983 Boston Acoustic A100's.....................................................................................................
  15. List price was $525 each in 1991; I think they'd be worth $500 only if they were still in an unopened box! I think ebay prices have it more accurate, and I'd spend no more than $250 for a pair. I just think there are too many other options out there for that kind of money. ******************* ******************* NP........Lone Star - Firing on all Six
  16. Ballpark - Forte's - $500/pr.......................... Chorus - $750/pr............................................ If I was selling I'd use Craiglist in addition to posting the particulars here. Good Luck, & my condolences! NP - NOMEANSNO - 0 + 2 = 1 ****************************************************
  17. Maybe that's a pair of KLF-30's - super bargain if so. Only $25/foot! Or $1.00/pound! Would like to hear the ending to this story! NP - Last Crack - Burning Funkhouse Live................................................................................
  18. Saw Foghat 3 times in the 70's, all in Wisconsin. Have all 13 LP releases, and about 10 of them on CD. Even had a few 8-tracks back in the early days. Also, have the DVD, Foghat Live: two centuries of boogie. Foghat live is probably my fave; but man, that disc needs a re-issue with more songs on it! The re-grouped original band has "Road Cases", from the late 90's, which is a very fine performance. . . . . . . NP - UDO - No Limits ....................................................................................................................
  19. I'm thinking we're getting a little paranoid about blowing something up. If the receiver is in spec, you will be able to produce a massive amount of sound without any problems. I would not get a sub unless you need additional bottom end. Listen first, make decisions later, once you determine how much loudness you need (or can stand). My motto: crank and enjoy! NP - The Godz - The Godz (LP).............. ..............................................................
  20. I don't have a sub, but this sounds like a very frustrating issue with an expensive piece of equipment. ... Did you read about any of the other sub/amp problems in the "Subwoofer" section of the forum?... Seems like lots of problems all of a sudden...... From what I have read over the course of the last few years, there just seems to be issues with powered subs.. ....That is one reason I would not recommend a Klipsch subwoofer, altho I enjoy many other Klipsch products, as long as it does not have an "amp" powering it!.........................................................................................................!........................................................................... Hey, wait a minute; I do have a subwoofer......The wifey has a 10 year old CSW "Powered" sub that is still thumpin....................altho I do agree that this may not be real "actual" audiophile subwoofage.....................
  21. This is not my sale, but I called the guy in S/W MIlwaukee, WI. He has a pair of Forte's, pair of Kg 2.2, pair of KG 1.2, an Academy center channel, and a SW-10 subwoofer. Sub is finished in oak, the rest in walnut. Has original boxes, manuals, etc. Excellent condition. Is looking to get $850 or best offer - will not split up. Ad was originally listed in the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel. Call 414-541-5474 (Tim) The system is apparently stored at this time in their boxes, but sounds like a great deal to me! Dale
  22. My co-worker had a pair of Belle's that had a buzz - turned out to be light fixtures on the same circuit. NP - Trouble - The Skull (Remaster)
  23. I used to find numerous bargains at the old "Media Play" store in town, and years ago, found a Tommy Bolin Band "Live" cd in the bargain bin. Recording is poor, but it was the "Official fan club release exclusive - limited edition". All of the performances are from 1976, but they are from a mix of locations, including the Palace Theater, My Father's Place, Ebbet's Field, and the Northern Lights Studio. The balance of my Bolin stuff is on 2 LP's, not including Deep Purple's "Come Taste the Band". NP - Tull - Broadsword
  24. I just happened to make a chocolate cake on saturday; and yes i did take the easy way out and bought a box mix. I've been know to make pretty good apple and cherry pies from scratch, and when I mention it at work, I get some incredulous looks from the ladies. But, you know, if you can read, you should be able to cook/bake many things. I use Better Homes "New Cook Book", and usually stick to the "pies" and cookie" sections. NP - Papa Roach - the paramour sessions ND - (now drinking) Leinenkugels Original
