  1. Not sure if Outlaw would have the sound you're looking for, but they do offer a 30 day in home trial.
  2. Thanks for the review! I just got an Outlaw 970 as well. With their $200 discount on the 997, I may upgrade when it comes out be right now I'm enjoying the 970. I'm only using it for 2 channel stereo at the moment, with RF-7 mains driven by a QSC PLX-2402 amp. Probably the biggest advantage is moving to an optical input for my audio over my old Pioneer's RCA analog inputs. How do you like the Outlaw amp? I'm probably going to get one in the near future to get my surround setup going but I can't decide which one to get. I'm tempted to go with one of the 200W/ch amps - for headroom as much as anything else. My QSC is rated at 425W/ch and it makes the the 7s sing with a very relaxed sound. My old Pioneer was rated at 100W/ch and it would get about as loud, but it didn't have the clarity, presence or relaxed sound. It was more fatiguing to listen to as well. Now I just need to find some RB-75 or RS-7 speakers for surround use. I've already got an RC-7 just waiting for my amp purchase to get into the mix.
  3. Glad I found this thread. I'm running my RF-7s off a QSC PLX2402 amp, and it really does make them sing. I just ordered a new Outlaw pre/pro and was planning to add an Outlaw 7 channel amp and selling my QSC, but maybe I should go with a 5 channel amp and keep the 7s on the QSC? Regardless, I've got nothing but good things to say about the QSC. If you're looking for a dedicated amp for thr 7s, you can't go wrong with one.
  4. Someone on another forum I frequent was discussing tube amps and mentioned he has this VT60 tube amp for sale. Here's a link to the amp's info: http://www.arcdb.ws/VT60/VT60.html Anyone here have any experience with this or any idea what a fair price would be?
  5. Has anyone tried both the RF-5 and RB-75 with the RF-7? I'm thinking about either of these to go with my RF7s and was wondering how they compare if anyone has tried them both.
  6. That's it. I give up. I'm going back to Laserdisc until this gets settled. [:S]
  7. I'll have to check on them. They guy only wants $250 for the pair, and they're here in town so I can pick them up and hopefully listen to them before buying. If there's nothing wrong with them, I'm having a hard time finding a reason NOT to buy them. I could always use them for a bedroom system. []
  8. It should do the job. When I got my RF-7s, I was running them on a 20 year old Pioneer VSX-5000 receiver and they sounded good. Once I added a QSC amp, even still using the Pioneer as a pre-amp, they really came alive. It was an amazing improvement. But I certainly wasn't "roughing it" with just the receiver.
  9. What do you think? I've got RF-7 mains with an RC-7, but I'm looking for some surround speakers. I found a deal on 2 Heresy speakers here in town that's almost too good to pass up. I'm wondering if they'd match up at all with the RF-7s.
  10. I'm running RF-7s with a QSC amp on an old Pioneer AVR. I can definitely tell I'm getting hiss from the Pioneer. With it off and the amp on, there is no hiss at all. Also, the hiss goes up quite a bit when using the Pioneer's digital signal processing. I love the RF7s, but they will expose any weak links in the signal chain. I'll be upgrading to a new preamp before long. I may wait to see if Outlaw is going to release HDMI on their next flagship model.
  11. Actually Direct Injection is for gas engines, too. Most modern F.I. is port injection - the fuel is sprayed into the intake port at the back of the intake valve. Direct Injection sprays the fuel directly into the combustion chamber. The Pontiac Solstice GXP 2.0L Turbo uses direct injection and gets 260 HP out of it's 2.0 L. It's the highest specific output engine GM's ever released. By comparison, the supercharged version of the engine that comes in the Cobalt SS has 205 HP. I'll leave the 'putting a Chevy engine in a Pontiac' rant for later. [:#]
  12. Your description of widescreen is correct, for the most part. There are some film makers who use "Super 35" when filming. It's captures a taller image with widescreen width and is then cropped for either widescreen or flat (full screen) display. In those cases, you lose some of the original picture with either method - it just crops to fit the format you want. Regular widescreen films are cropped on the sides unless they do pan and scan when presented in flat. Here's a comparison of full screen and wide screen versions of The Incredibles.
  13. I'm almost afraid to hear something like that. I'm reveling in my RF-7/QSC setup now. I don't want to hear something I'll never be able to afford that makes my current setup sound like crap by comparison. [st] Oh well. I'd jump at the chance to drive a Ferrari I can't afford. Don't know why my audio desires should be any different. []
  14. I knew there was a reason I love this forum. []
  15. Not to stray too far off topic, but I know what you mean. I have a pair of RF-7's that I was powering with a 20 year old Pioneer 100 W/ch AVR (VSX-5000). They could play quite loud - no doubt due to the high efficiency. I then added a QSC PLX-2402 (425 W/ch) and the sound quality difference was staggering. Even at similar loudness levels, the quality was much improved with the QSC amp. While the bass never seemed to be lacking before, now it has a more "real" feeling and sounds more effortless. That open and airy quality you hear people talk about. You could easily pick out the differences in an A-B comparison - even if both were set for exactly the same SPL. My uneducated guess is most of the RF-7 efficiency is due to it's horn. The woofers - especially at their impedance drop - will require more current to keep up with the horns. The volume may still be there, but the bass won't have the same presence or punch behind it.
  16. I'll throw my hat into the ring. If it hasn't already been sold to a previous poster, PM me and let's do a deal. I don't wish to step on anyone's toes for anyone who's already expressed interest. If those deals don't go through, let me know.
  17. The dog barks for 3 bones. Time to take the dog to the pound to get fixed. Let the cat in the back door. I have the flea dip.
  18. Budget and security would be my primary considerations. I wouldn't take a big dollar system to a dorm room only to have it trashed or stolen. I've got one of the early ProMedia V4.200 systems (4.1, THX system) and it still rocks as hard today as it did when I bought it, back in the late 90's. I used it for my home entertainment system in my apartments after college and it served the purpose very well. Now, compared to my current RF7 / QSC system, it sounds like an old 40's radio playing through tissue paper speaker cones - but for what it is, a PC sound system, it's one of the best I've ever heard. Only when compared against equipment costing many times as much do you notice what it's lacking. That said, a ProMedia 5.1 Ultra setup should blow my V4.200 system away. I'd go with the 5.1 Ultra setup and not look back. Even if it's stolen, you're out a few hundred instead of over a thousand bucks. You hear a lot about the 5.1 subs dieing, but what you don't hear about is the ones that don't die. So, don't worry about the sub. Make sure it's got good ventilation and let it rip. If it dies, then worry about repair or upgrade. It's not like they're all going to fail. For a more compact system, the 2.1 setup is pretty hard to beat.
  19. I looked at their price on B Stock...........the 7075 was 50.00 less than the new one, and as you stated- a full Warranty! Also, B-Stock has FREE SHIPPING, which can save quite a bit. Shipping for a 7075 to my address is about $50, so buying B-Stock would save me $100 total.
  20. I prefer the Big Green Egg. http://www.biggreenegg.com/ [H]
  21. This makes me afraid to listen to any Heritage, lest I become unhappy with my RF7 system. [&] Someday I want some Khorns and a nice tube amp for 2 channel listening. I've already spent too much on my RF system. I'm afraid what I'd do if/when I get hooked on Heritage.
  22. You got that right! Anyone find out where his "store" is? I live in Raleigh and it might be interesting to go check him and his place out first hand.
  23. Are you certain you're getting RF7s? If you get them, try it out with the RC35 and see if you notice much timbre change across the center channel. Of course getting the RC7 would be the best match, but see if the RC35 works for you first. I certainly wouldn't let that be a deciding factor on whether or not to get the RF7s.
  24. Yeah. At the end of the day, I can't wait to come home to the music. It literally brought tears to my eyes when I first powered it up and demo'ed Bach's Tocatta & Fugue in D Minor. It also allowed me to add my RC-7 that had been just collecting dust since I bought it. I'm running it off of one of the Pioneer's unused stereo channels. It's Center channel is just L+R, so there's no active processing, but it fills in not only the sound stage, but adds a bit more midrange compared to the RF7s. Oh yeah. I'm a happy camper. Only problem it seems is the more stuff I buy - the longer my shopping list gets. Need a pre/pro and amp to get some surround, and probably a pair of RS-7 if I can find them, oh and then I need a RSW-15 sub - in Cherry. And, uh, when I go 7.1, do I get something like the RB-75, or try to get another pair of RF7s? And that hasn't even touched upgrading my CD, DVD, et al. Yup, I've been bitten by the bug - and the Klipsch bug's got TEETH!! [H]
