  1. I would think that plugging the peach into the Viva's direct input would be the way to go. One less pot in the path.
  2. The statement, "SET amps do not like driving crossovers" is a generalization. SET amps typically do not have a problem driving a simple network, such as a first or second order network (1st sounds best to my ears). Higher order networks can be problematic though. Under the right conditions, an SET amp can deliver excellent bass. My SET can reproduce stand-up bass better than any of my SS amps. Now if you're talking loud bass drum slam (and I do mean loud), that's a different story. Also, SET amps aren't too fond of driving low impedance loads, so if the Forte presents a challenging load, than the SET is not the amp for the job, unless you biamp with the SET up high.
  3. Ah, edwinr....(insert tongue in cheek), so trusting and naive. Completely unaware of those that are afflicted with the dreaded personality dis-order. Drama and manipulation for attention. To some it's glaringly obvious, to others, not so much.
  4. I think you're talking about passive bi-amping. It's not recommended, you should go with an active x-over if bi-amping.
  5. Hearing aid? Don't you mea, "Let me git mah ear-horn!"?
  6. I have to ask - why is your username not Omar?
  7. That was a long time coming. It was either that or "dog".
  8. That looks like the black hole of good sound!
  9. CW, I have a pair of homemade A's on my LaScalas right now, stock design except that I've dropped the midrange a tap on the autoformer and replaced the midrange cap to the appropriate value (6.8uF, if memory serves). I prefer them to either the stock AA's or ALK's. Solen inductor and dayton poly, nothing too fancy, but sounds very nice. I'll soon be running JBL2470's and APT200 tweets, at least to try out, so will have no use for the A's. If you're interested, let me know. I'm looking for $100 for the pair, and I have some pics as well if you'd like to see what they look like.
  10. Fishin's good today, huh little robin?
  11. Hey! Good for you, little robin. Moved up to 20lb test I see!
  12. I have a pair of used 2470's that I'll be running with my LaScalas. I'm going to mount them to gothover's 1" tractrix horns, and cross them to an APT-200 tweet. I still have to get the x-over designed and built. I'll report back if that ever gets done
  13. I thought about using a longer screw w/washer, but I'm a stickler for proper appearance. It I decide to sell the drivers down the road, it will help if they look correct. So I set up my dremel with a grinding wheel, and secured it in my vise. Then I wrapped the hex screw threads with tape, and gently tightened it in my hand drill chuck. Fired up the dremel and the drill, and ground the hex head wall down a bit. Worked like a charm. One down, seven to go.
  14. Good idea, aswjr, I'll give them a call.
  15. No offense taken. We all get busy, too much on the plate to keep track of. I just wanted to make sure you received my offer first, before posting to the garage sale. Good luck in your search!
  16. My 902's (new from GPA) audibly distorted (abeit very subtley) when crossed at 600Hz w/ a 6db slope, at moderately loud volumes.I also think you may be disappointed with the high end w/o some passive EQ (RC in series w/the driver).
  17. I understand completely, just wanted to make sure you got the offer.
  18. Yes, I did see the head dimension, but didn't check the hole before ordering, as I didn't have my rear cap with me at work (we have running orders for McMaster, so I just put it in). I looked at .270 on my mic, and it looked a bit big to my eye. We'll see how it pans out (a bad pun for a different screw...).
  19. Winchester21, did you get my e-mail? I have a Jolida 100 with Underwood's level 2 mods, if you're interested. $700 for forum members, if it doesn't sell, $800 up on agon.
  20. Thanks, yes, I checked those out (online, I mean). Didn't think it was what I was looking for, as the head looks a bit to wide in their pic, but Widget seemed to think those are them. I already put an order in, so we'll see when they arrive. In the meantime, I'm going to try and grind down the hex heads a bit to see if they'll do. It's certainly easier to get a hex driver down that hole, compared to a #2 philips.
  21. I posted this over at Lansing/Heritage, but figured I might get some help here as well: I have a pair of 2470's in need of rear cap screws. It's an 8/32 x 1.5" screw, but the catch is, it has a tiny head (in order to fit into the recess). I tried calling JBL parts, but they no longer carry this oddball screw. I checked McMaster Carr until my eyes were bloodshot, but couldn't find what I was looking for (that doesn't mean it's not there though, their amount of screw stock is overwhelming). I even bought some hex head equivalents, but the head's a bit too big (not sure how successful grinding down the heads would be, doesn't sound like fun). Any suggestions?
  22. SF, the quicksilvers that used the 8417 tubes were pre mid-monos and mini-mites. I've seen them come up for sale for pretty reasonable prices, because of that. Could be a good deal for anyone comfortable with doing the conversion. Edit--> I meant horn monos, not mid-monos.
