  1. IMAX is shot on 70mm film stock with an aspect ration of 16x9 versus standard definition TV which has an aspect ratio of 3x4. On a widescreen TV, you should see everything you would see in an IMAX theatre without the immense size of the screen (normally 50 to 60 feet tall and concave to suck you into the movie), but beware as some newer TVs will will automatically letterbox (black bands on the top and bottom) the video to keep the aspect ratio. On regular TVs, you will not see the left and right sides of the video...you lose about 16% of the picture (I think) For me, a big part of the IMAX experience is the larger than life screen, 15000 Watts of audio power the fact that the big film looks better than any video source including HD. Paul
  2. I have both the "Live in Paris" and "Love Scenes" -- both are awesome. Any other suggestions for her work to look for? Paul
  3. I would love to make the next get together, but rather than a cruise, why not some sort of Music Festival? Jazz Fest in New Orleans comes to mind or Music Midtown here in Atlanta. Anyone know if Indianapolis has anything like this? Of course, there is somethink to be said of the 30 year old single women one often finds of cruises Cheers! Paul
  4. I would suggest a pair of KG-4s. I love mine.
  5. My guess is that the 80 and 100 refer to the bandwidth of the video signal the receivers pass.
  6. I too will be listening to the Man in Black and toasting his legacy. I discovered Johnny Cash only in 1996 after hearing his cover of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage". Sure, I had heard "Folsum Prison Blues", "A Boy Named Sue" and "Ghostriders" with the Highwaymen. But growing up in the suburbs, "country wasn't cool". But after listening to his first American album with producer Rick Rubin, I discovered what "Alternative" really means. And, then I started to discover the rest of his catalogue and read his autobiography and discovered he was as much a punk as Sid Vicious. For those of you who haven't heard it, give a listen to his version of "Hurt" on "The Man Comes Around". For me, it is the most powerful song I have ever heard. In the words of Roy Orbison, "I'm Crying" May he rest in peace. Paul
  7. I have had Cingular/BellSouth for 7 years with rarely a problem. (It took 6 months and 6 tries to get my phone seperated out of the home phone bill and into my name during the divorce). I have 500 nationwide peak minutes (no roaming charges ever) and 3500 nite/weekend minutes. One tip: if you get it narrowed down to one or two carriers, see if you have a friend or family member with that service and have them come over to your house to make sure you get coverage.
  8. Justin, Welcome back...of course being in school you may not be around much. Nice bike, I had an early version of that one back when I was in college (1990 I think was when I bought). I ride a Jamis Dakar FS now, but full suspension is overkill for campus commuting. Paul
  9. You can also look for a good electronics store in the area - one that deals to Hams, the local radio and tv stations and the technical colleges, often they will test tubes for you. They may even sell replacements. Paul
  10. Ed, you are correct...I had the remote and the meter and a beer - somehow I didn't run out of hands.
  11. RTaylor: Please post your findings/feelings because I need to improve my ALs as well and am probably going to build the ALKs, but if you like what you hear, I may reconsider. Paul
  12. Craig, While I agree the La Scala sounds great without a sub, I run mine with a KSW and really enjoy the extra "thump" the sub gives. Of course I listened to mostly rock and Blues. But even with jazz or classical, it is great to hear the pluck of the bass or whump of the timpani. Paul
  13. I wanted to share my experience yesterday with you all. Edster00 and I live close to one another here in Atlanta, and he had graciously offered previously to let me hear his Belles (about 5 years ago). Dumb me never took him up on his offer. Now, I have my La Scalas with the lackluster AL network and as I am considering building the ALK design, I imposed myself on him so I could hear them. So yesterday afternoon he had me and a handful of my favorite CDs over. I have to say, first of all, when I have a place with the space and the corners, I am getting KHorns. I love my La Scalas, but the KHorns showed what the Scalas were missing on the low end even with a sub. And on top of all that, his little flea powered tube amps at about 3.5 Watts, handled all the music we played. The only time I found them lacking was at the end of the day (and a bottle of wine) and we were playing "Fuel" off of Metallica's S&M at 106dB,they just couldn't give a little more . But, Ed's system is just enjoyable. Oh, and I will be building ALK's networks, very very soon Ed, thanks for a GREAT day. It was fun to talk and share music and equipment thoughts. I really appreciate it and look forward to getting together again sometime. Paul
  14. Another option might be to change the phase of the Cornwall woofer by swapping the leads off of the crossover (positive to negative/negative to positve). Any one see a problem with this? Paul
  15. I second the No Spam Registry...and now I'm getting stuff in Korean - like a dumb pollack like me can read Korean Paul
  16. $300 is a great price for 3, normally a pair sells for about that on Ebay. I love my KG4's, but I am not sure how you will like them compared to Cornwalls. Paul
  17. How are you connecting your DVD player to your TV? Video (RCA cable), S-Video or component (RBG)? This maybe part of the problem. Or, you have jacked up the hue brightness controls. Try resetting them to 0. If you are ever up late and one of your local stations put up color bars, you can use your eyes to adjust your TV some. Paul
  18. If you are jiggling the wire very close to the 1/8" plug and it is causing your speakers to go it and out, it is very easy to replace those plugs if you know how to solder. Good Luck
  19. Also, if you have some excess speaker cable, cut off the old ends and re-strip it so you have nice shiny cables.
  20. Bill, As of now, HDTV will not be mandated. DTV (digital broadcast tv) will be the standard in 2007. Paul
  21. Indy... We can always hope. And while we are at it, dream she does not have an issues with speakers as pieces of furniture
  22. You might want to try one of the following http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=15341802&St=7278&St2=-67523231&St3=31408665&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=4518&DID=7 or http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=15341802&St=7278&St2=-67523231&St3=31408665&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=4325&DID=7 you may be able to find them locally Paul
  23. Actually try several of those ground lifters (3 prong to 2 prong adapters) especially on the equipment that hums, turntables and subs
  24. Tony, You should have aksed them if they ever "stocked" Klipsch or Clipsch
  25. You stated "almost all the inputs" -- which ones hum, which ones do hot hum and which ones are not used at all...
