  1. Lastly, you mentioned the poor picture. Are you seeing ghosting - you will see a primary image and a weaker image beside it. Or are you seeing the actual dots of color changing from one color to another - usually a the boarder between an object in the foreground and the background. Also, are you in an urban, suburban area or a more remote location? Any TV or Radio antennas nearby? Paul
  2. I would try moving the sub to a different circuit as a start.
  3. Are these KG4.2s or Promedia 4.2s? That will help us troubleshoot your problem...
  4. Scooterdog Your center sounds interesting, especially since I too have La Scalas and am looking for a center. What year La Scalas do you have and which crossover? How well does it blend it with them? I might want to see the pics and if you have drawings/schematics.
  5. Cluless- I will point out the obvious, but expensive, alternative. Extend from the circuit that feeds the outlet in the hall - your next choice - and install the box as close as you can to the amp. Of course this suggestion and about $3 will get you a decent cup of coffee. Paul
  6. Cut-Throat very wise sentiment, but I don't think one can ever "overdose" on art, one should learn to expand one's taste and try new things, if you don't like it no big deal, try something else.
  7. All those pretty wood grains made me feel bad for my flat black La Scalas...hmmm, maybe I should refinish them to black lacquer. Honestly, those exotics are beautiful. At least my KG4s are oil oak. Paul
  8. Another place to start is to unplug the interconnects from the back of your receiver one at a time and to listen for the one that stops hum. Also, if you have a turntable, make sure it is grounded to your receiver.
  9. If there is a fuse, you should check it as well. Be sure to unplug your sub from the wall outlet. Also, try another plug or try plugging in something else into that outlet to make sure it is working.
  10. Sorry this didn't post the first time...here it goes again. First try disconnecting all the cables from the wall outlets except one, preferably the one with the longest cable run or farthest from where the cable enters the house. Does that improve it at all? If it makes the picture perfect or close, then I would try an amp. b. Try a good quality cable between the wall outlet and the cable box or TV. If you have both a cable box and a TV, swap both for better cables. The poorly shielded ones the cable company normally give you and the tiny ones you get with VCRs, are not well shielded so they allow in a lot of interference which you will see as noise. 3. If you have a network box on your house - one place where the cable from the street comes into the house and then split into seperate paths for different rooms - and you can access it, see what the picture looks like right there if you can. Also, if there is a ground screw on it and it is not used, try running a length of 12 gauge solid copper wire from the screw to the Earth, strip off about 4 inches on insulation and push directly into the ground. Does that help? D. If you do get a tech to the ranch, ask him (or her) to measure the signal coming in off of the street before it gets distributed inside your house. Buried cables often get nicked or cut, allowing water in and signal out. I hope this helps. Paul
  11. Justin... You are going all the way to Missouri when you have THE BEST state university just down the road. The University of Texas at Austin is where you should be. If for no other reason than Austin's music scene. Paul 92 Texas Ex
  12. Amen! Don't forget to buy the neighbors some earplugs or cottonballs.
  13. I have been building custom cables for over 15 years, and have tried every brand of RCA plug that I could find and have yet to find an easy one to build. I currently use Skillcrafts RCA for my projects, but if anyone has a suggestion I will give them a try.
  14. Andy - check out this link http://www.proav.de/index.html?http&&&www.proav.de/data/cables/pinouts.html or Google for "5 pin DIN pinout" And take care soldering your RCA's as I find those to be the most difficult plug to make - or maybe I just haven't found a good one to build . Paul
  15. Justin- I would suggest taking a note from Ozzy Ozbourne and throw sliced bread over the fence. If nothing else, they might think you are a little disturbed and take care not to p*ss you off. I have to admit I like the idea of using a learning remote to play with their system, of course if you do this the best thing to do would be to turn it up until it implodes. Then no more loud music...of course, your other complaints will need a different solution. If their boat has an internal fuel tank, plug up the vents for it, it will cause a vapor lock. The engine will run for a few minutes, then starved of fuel, sputter and die. After sitting a while - depends on how well the vents are block - it will restart and run until starved of gas again. Good Luck! Paul
  16. Does anyone know when Klipsch switched from plywood to MDF?
  17. Thanks Gil, They are currently flat black not the black laquer, and I like them like that, as you can just see a hint of the wood grain showing through. Also, I think to change now to black laquer, I would have to remove all the old paint, then paint, but this is just a guess. Any thoughts on network upgrades, the AL seems lackluster to me. I am thinking of either building ALK's or looking for a pair used AA's.
  18. My La Scalas were saved from an abusive home and as a result they have some scratches and gouges I need to repair. They are LS FB (flat black) TG (top grill)with the AL networks and no noticable upgrades. So, my first question are these made of birch plywood or MDF? Do you recommend wood filler, wood dough or Bondo? And, after the dents are fixed I need to repaint them, so any recommendations for paint? Also, the wedge edge in both bass bins is missing its paint, not that it is any big deal, but has anyone else had this happen? Thanks, Paul
  19. I too agree with Fish. Klipsch fills the gap between bland sounding speakers and overpriced esoteric speakers. That and the fact that most of us on this forum like the live sound our Klipsch provide us with. My La Scalas sound better than the $10k pair of Monarch Audio speakers I heard, and at half the volume. And, they don't need 500 watt mono blocks to do it. JG, I do recommend that you go out and listen to as many speakers as you can, you will learn what you like and don't like. Good luck and enjoy the music. Paul
  20. Tom, How do the AA or ALK networks compare to the AB I have in my '88 La Scalas? I have read a great deal of praise for Al K's networks all over this bulletin board, but I have not had a chance to listen to them yet. Paul
  21. 1. Earlier this very month, I purchased a pair of damaged , but still working, '88 La Scalas to replace my still loved KG4's. When space allows I plan a full heritage HT setup, using K-Horns if possible, but more likely all La Scalas. 2 and 3. 34 4. When I was 16, my high school marching band had a pair, that once I heard them (La Scalas) I knew I heard a real speaker. They filled up an immense band rehearsal hall (approximately 20' x 60' x 25') and I could still hear individual instrumentalists and at the end of a song, there was this beautiful sustain, that died in the wind. And since then, I have seen them in clubs, still impressing audiences. 5. Probably used, just due to cost issues and I prefer the Heritage speakers made from plywood versus MDF, even though a few members of this forum have made the argument that the MDF is better for engineering reasons, the plywood seems like it will last longer, just like PWK intended. Off the topic, this makes me wonder what PWK would have though of "disposable" Hi-Fi gear. That is, that it is often cheaper to replace with new than to repair a broken piece of gear. 6. Yes, I believe if PWK was still here it would have joined the heritage line. I also think the name should be changed to "Requim" Paul
  22. I would suggest you try that RS noise filter on the head unit. I know every time I have installed a new car stereo, I used a cheap one every time and have never had a problem. And I would also follow Gil's advice and lift the shield on one end of each of the RCA cables. Paul
  23. You guys forgot: "Unskinny Bop (Bop)" by Poison and "Pour some sugar on me" by ???
  24. Q-Man: I have seen Valhalla and it is your HT Room, 2 K-Horns and 5 La Scalas, I am drooling and the thought. One day . . . One day I shall have a setup that nice. And nice cabinetry.
