  1. Picture of the horn driver Stephens Tru-Sonic model 108
  2. In the kitchen floor for now. Only been home for a day and have to rearrange the room.
  3. Well we're back and have a very nice Khorn to show for our efforts. 2500 miles and alot of side trips. Thanks for all of the suggestions. They were very useful. I'll start by trying to explain some of my concerns with the purchase of the Khorn. I bought it through e-bay as an estate item. A friend was selling this for another and I would need to pick up in Jourdanton TX. After the auction I contacted the seller right away and got no response for a day and a half. Other than he said the friend would contact me by phone. Nothing..... not a call, beep or contact of any sort. The name of my contact was M. Conn. After another day I went through ebay channels and got the name on the account. Googled the name and found that he was a director of a methadone and drug addiction clinic......in California. Ok, so I'm thinking some drug addict started up a false sale looking for some drug money. My contact was after all named Conn. Who do they think they're kidding. I'm needing some answers quick before I'm sending any money. After repeated phone call I get a call from the original seller. He sounds convincing and after a long drawn out phone conversation, I'm starting to feel better. M. Conn thought I was to call. Easy mistake. After talking to her I found out that this Khorn was her fathers and he had just passed away 3 weeks previously. Not entirely thinking straight. She had alot on her mind. All very logical. The father was 94 years old when he passed. He had bought it new in what they thought was 1951 or 1952. He had kept it all of these years. No modifications. No mistreatment. Just a very well loved and cherished Khorn. And nobody from the family wanted to keep it. Too big, didn't have enough room, excuses, excuses, excuses. No problem I would love to have it. He loved his music and his beloved Khorn so much that he took it with him to the assisted living facility that he spent his final years. I was told about how the other residents were complaining about how loud he was playing his music. Come on, he's 94, his hearing is not that good. So after a 2500 mile drive with two flat tires and many other exciting side stops. I came to be the proud new owner of Klipschorn serial #208, technically the 108th Klipschorn ever made. Its date of inspection and testing is Feb, 15th 1951. Works fine....sounds great, but only a 2-way. No tweeter they didn't need them then while listening to mono. So a tweeter might be on the list for the future, but no changes for now. Wanting to keep original for now. Figured its spent the last 57 years like this, I could spend some time listening to it.... in its original state. [], BadDad
  4. Spending the night in Hope, AK with K-horn serial #208 in the trunk. Vintage K-horn from 1951. Wife let me skip going to the mall for the day. We went to the Bass Pro shop in Dallas instead. She put her foot down when we started looking at the boats, dragged me outa there quick. Had dinner tonight at Amigo Juan's in Hope. Skipped the punch but had some killer fajitas.
  5. Yes, I do have one of Will's stereo Baldwin amps. I also now have 3 different mono baldwin amps, for a total of 4. Using the 3 mono's in my main system and using the stereo in the tv room.
  6. will try to stop at Amigo Juan's.....We're now spending the night in Dallas TX tonight. Will be picking up speaker tomorrow hopefully. Feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.
  7. This could possibly go very bad quick. Dealing with a lawyer in California that is setting her fathers estate in Texas. Hope her brother in Texas lets me take it. Wants to Paypal before delivery but I'm hesitating paying before I see.
  8. I was planning on taking quite a few styrofoam sheets to lay down. Also put on a heavy blanket on top of the styro. Thanks for the suggestions.
  9. Didn't try to mislead. 2500 miles is for the round trip, and yes its only one.
  10. Indianapolis to a little south of San Antonio Tx. I have a 2004 Pontiac Vibe. Crawled into the back tonight and measured every direction. Barely fits with maybe room for a small gym bag. No room for deoderant or underware though. Measured on the current Khorns. The 50's models are the same size as the modern one's right? If push comes to shove the tophat will be strapped on the roof.
  11. Just bought my first complete Klipschorn the other day. My wife (bless her soul) will be making this road trip with me. Looks like a very nice, in almost pristine shape Klhorn maybe 1953 or 54. Original owner just passed away and he was 94 years old and had it from new. Will post follow up photos and give update on the trip and the resulting wifes happiness or lack thereof She's a great gal for putting up with all of this. Will also be driving through Hope, AR on the trip and planning on making a stop to see the birthplace of the speaker. Wish me luck and any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks BadDad
  12. For the last 8 years or so iI have been using a Merdian 561 for my 3 channel setup. Nice small preamp/ processor. It has around 12-15 major sound processing type. "Trifield" is the setting that I use 98% of the time. It gives a very realistic 3 channel soundstage from any 2 channel recording. You can pair the 561 up with any type amplification.Solidstate or tubed. Whatever floats your boat. I'm using 3 Baldwin mono tube amps, all 6l6 driven. Original cost for the Meridian was around $5000 new, You can find one e-bay for around $500-$600 now. Couldn't be happier with my audio equipment and none of it is for sale now.
  13. I asked my pet parrot about hearing 23khz and she nodded her head and kept squawking.
  14. I also had a fine time Enjoyed the passion from all the Klipsch employees. Best part for me was just being given free range to play around with the listening rooms and listening to my own music. The worst part is finding out my checkbook might be lighter with some newer Klipsch speakers. Hope you had a easy flight to Las Vegas, nu2toobs.Enjoyed the brews and the company.
  15. In my home theater I just ran the projector off another electrical outlet. No new circuit. I did run new circuits for the overead can lighting and a new dedicated circuit for the motorized screen.
  16. Missed daughters soccer game...... I missed my wifes birthday for my first Pilgrimage. Was worth it though. Had a great time and she gave me the cold sholder for a few days. Best results I could have expected. Thanks for changing the day to the 20th this year though.
  17. Quick, I need to know..... is the Klipsch\OCC Chopper running with solid state or on tube gear ?????
  18. I know there are lots of music lovers here, but are there any U2 fans amongst us? Went to see the new U2 3D movie tonight at the IMAX and had a great time. Just like being up on stage. Took the wife, daughter, 2 sons, and son in-law. Nobody in our group likes them as much as I do, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Except the 14 year old. But he is bored with just about everything. All in all, a fun family night out.
  19. Ok, maybe a little more than a small chance......But if the Patriots run the table better call if Super Bowl XLII*
  20. Not a chance for the Patriots. Too Old and they are playing like they are gassed. Colts Rule!
  21. Consider your local florist for better service!
  22. If you're sending packages off of the bay, I have been using a shipping product called ShipRush for FedEx. It's free and it interfaces and plugs in all your info from the sell. You also get cheaper pricing from what I've seen. A couple of clicks and your done. Couldn't be easier.
  23. Harry, Is the Mc75 for sell? If so, how much for the MC75? Price with the entertainment center also thrown in please?[]
  24. I have some Baldwin tube amps you can listen to if interested. Running with cornwalls and home brewed Wallrus. Nothing fancy just great, powerful tube amps. Mine aren't for sale, but give me a shout sometime when you're coming to Indy.
