  1. Hello Melvin, I never look in this section, but now I bought my daughter an igroove HG for Christmas. The answer to one of your questions is that yes you can hook it up to your computer. You must use a not supplied heaphone plug to headphone plug adapter. I am not sure of the plug size, but it will be the size of a standard mini-plug used on a headphone. The HG comes with an adapter J-cup that replaces the Ipod player cup which has the necessary cable connections for a non Ipod player. I do not believe it is long enough to stretch to a laptop computer headphone jack. Sorry, I cannot compare to the SXT. In fact I have not even powered up the HG yet as my daughter comes home 1 January to celebrate Christmas. I hope this helps some. Wrinkles
  2. Other than "HIGH GLOSS" and color are they the same? I bought an HG for my daughter for Christmas and now my son wants one after seeing this one. Looking at the spec they appear to be. Am I missing anything? Thanks, Wrinkles
  3. Jon, Thanks for the ARC webpage. I have a D79 (label does not say A,B or C) which has a similar compliment of tubes and in 1986 a new set of replacement tubes was around $400.00. So now it would probably be alot more and a large cost as previously written will be the cost of new tubes. I used the D79 on a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10s and they never sounded better on any other amplifier. I use the Jubscalas now and only keep the D79 around because the DQ-10s are in the closet. Good Luck with your purchase. Audio Research Corp makes a good product, as long as it sounds good to you. Wrinkles
  4. Thought I would pass this on. Sent to me in a email. Remember to keep our military personnel in your thoughts and prayers particularly during the holidays. What are you doing? I asked without fear, Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! No one had to ask or beg or implore me, My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam', I've not seen my own son in more than a while, I can live through the cold and the being alone, I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, So go back inside, he said, harbor no fright, But isn't there something I can do, at the least, Just tell us you love us, and never forget. 1 Image | View Slideshow | Download Selected image002.jpg (159KB) Wrinkles
  5. Cal, I say Congratulations to you for not talking him out of joining. The military needs good people. It amazes me the number of parents who feel the military is not for their sons or daughters when they have not served or know very little of the military experience. Had I not served, I'm not sure which side of the fence I would be on with the US and world politics as it is today. My son joined the US Navy in 03 March of this year and went to Great Lakes bootcamp. So, I thought I would inform you of some things based on my son's experience. His only day to write letters will be on Sunday, if they are not too busy. Once the bootcamp gets rolling, you could receive a letter every Thursday or Friday. Phone calls, when allowed, occurred maybe 4 times. It will vary, dependent on schedules and how well his company is doing with their training. He will buy phone cards at the Navy exchange or NEX as they call it. About a month into bootcamp you will receive a letter stating that his orders after bootcamp may not allow time for him to take leave before going to his A School. That is what happenned with my son. He got home for the first time since bootcamp Friday night. It has been a long 9 months, especially for his Mom. What made the time away bearable for our family was his cellphone. We probably talked 2-3 hours every weekend while he was in A School. He is between schools now and has a year of school to go, so it may not be until next Christmas before we see him again. I wish your son the best. Please thank him for me. I hope the Navy gives him time to call home this Christmas during his breaks from shoveling snow. I know it will mean the world to you and your family. And thankyou for serving as well. Also, be sure to tell your son that during the last few days of bootcamp when your son will have liberty, that he must follow the rules precisely. My son told me of two sailors that violated the no smoking rules. One was set back 2 weeks for lighting up. The other sailor was set back to the beginning of bootcamp for bringing a pack of smokes back to the base. I guess the company commanders felt they had to instill their military might on these guys one last time. I bet they learned a lesson that day. Have a Merry Christmas. Wrinkles
  6. This book is on Amazon.com now for $12.77 . Or in paperback for $5.77 used at the time of my post. http://www.amazon.com/Build-Speaker-Enclosures-Alexis-Badmaieff/dp/B0018CJPIC%3FSubscriptionId%3D1NNRF7QZ418V218YP1R2%26tag%3Dbookfindercom0e%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB0018CJPIC Wrinkles
  7. Anyone have an opinion or experience with the EAW SB-184C 18" Sub Woofer ? Its a theatre subwoofer and kinda large. Too large for a home setup? http://www.eaw.com/info/EAW/Loudspeaker_Product_Info/Current_loudspeakers/SB184C/SB184C_SPECS_rev1.pdf There is one in the area for sale. I would be using it with my LaScallas. Thanks, Wrinkles
  8. I use to rerecord over at least 30-40 on VHS tapes, probably more times than that. Are DVD RWs that are used for temporary recording of shows limited in the number of times used? It seems that way to me. Maybe my DVD RWs are too cheap. Anybody else experiencing this? Thanks, Wrinkles
  9. Thanks for the comments and link. I was emailing a Craigslister about the purchase of his FH1s and Black Widow drivers only, but he wanted $500 for the pair and would throw in a Crown DC300A and a crossover which he would not describe to me in any way. It became evident that he did not want to split up the FH1s from the other gear mentioned. $500 seemed too much to me for a 1970s amp and FH1s with the 15" Black Widow drivers. Was I off here? Any idea what a pair of used FH1 speakers should normally sell for? Thanks, Wrinkles
  10. I have searched the forum to no avail. There were Forum members who were going to compare the Peavy FH1 cabinet to the LaScalla bass bin using the K33 driver in both, if I remember correctly. Some of the Forum members have commented that from their experience the Black Widow driver is not as good as the K33 in terms of distortions. Speaker reponse software programs were run and I understand that they can be fairly accurate in calcuating expected speaker response. So, I was wondering if anyone had actually run the live signal response tests and maybe just not have published the results here. Also, has anyone ever put a K402 on top of a FH1? (Blasphemy perhaps?) Thanks, Wrinkles
  11. Thanks everyone for the great ideas, explanation and laughs. I am so tired of those unexpected floor scratches. Wrinkles
  12. I have had Cornwalls in my house and the metal feet scratched the wooden floors. I have LaScalas now and they scratch the floors. Looking at the feet on the bottoms of the speakers you will find metal feet that have been roughed up or bent or driven deeper into the base. Has anyone found replacement feet that go easy on wood floors? Presently, I have my LaScalas on small throw rugs and move them around that way. Thanks, Wrinkles
  13. What is an IASKA setup disk? Sounds like a disk I could use on occasion. And where can I get one? Thanks, Wrinkles
  14. filmboydoug, My son used the French for two years and learned alot. My wife uses it to brush up on her French as well. My two youngest (11 and 16 years) started in January 08 the Japanese prgram. The kids love the Japanese as they hear it spoken in some of the Anime Cartoons they have seen. My oldest daughter used a different prgram for learning Russian. I think it was called Tranparent Language. She speaks Russian pretty well from it. Learning computer software has worked well in my house. Wrinkles
  15. Luvmykhorns, The biggest issue on the 2404H diaphragms is the ohmic value or resistance of the diaphragms. When I spoke with a JBL representative in California last December, If I am remembering correctly, the ohmic value of a new diaphragm should be around 6.25 to 6.5 ohms. If your diaphragm values measure close together, then I would not worry about getting new diaphragms. One diaphragm replacement cost me $117.00 plus about $15.00 in shipping. Wrinkles
  16. I will not be using the mids and tweeters in this setup. I will place them side by side as close as possible with K402 centered over the tops of them. I have the Crown XTI1000s. Their specs say that they can handle two ohm loads, but is parallel the best way to wire them? Maybe series? What do you think? I'll probably need to make changes to the Crown DSP file. If they do not work out below the K402s, I will move them next to the TV. I was already looking for a pair of Heresys for the TV when I found these. Thanks for all the input. I was thinking it may be a crazy idea. I guess there is a reason I had not read about anyone doing exactly this before. Worse case, it will be fun and educational. Best case, it may sound good! 17. A K402 on top of 2 LaScalas per side. Is this nuts? What can I expect? I should receive the second pair of LaScalas this weekend. Can this actually work? Wrinkles
  18. Gil, What about using orbital sanders? Same problems? I can certainly understand NOT using belt sanders. For me using a belt sander is like weeding a garden with a chainsaw. Wrinkles
  19. BigDaddy, You are very welcome. I had a good time and had some good food (BBQ spare ribs, potato salad, cheese, etc.). You are a very generous person. Enjoyed meeting you, your wife and your prescious 10 week old Sarah Elizabeth. The Bottlehead Paramour Amps sporting 2A3 tubes were the best. The Sonic Impact Amp was the worst. The nameless amp was the Dared MP5 integrated and fell inbetween, much closer to the Sonic Impact amp than to the Paramours. The Bottlehead Paramour amps are a much better amplifier than the other two that I brought. They really made your Klipsch KGs sound good. There are other tube amps out there that have cages to keep little and big fingers off of and also away from the high voltage circuitry under the panel. I do not have any recommendations in that area due to my lack of listening experience with the many varieties available. Always if possible, try before you buy with any amplifier whether it is tube or solid state. Bottlehead Paramours - 3 tube watts per channel. Chris's Crown XTIs- 275 solid state watts per channel. Your present source ? watts. Rick, I enjoyed the visit. If that potato salad recipe is not a secret family recipe I would like a copy of it please. Every audio adventure I go on seems to turn out great. What does that say about people who enjoy audio and music? It says that they must be great people. Have a great day. Wrinkles
  20. My K402 "tweeter" says Klipsch, K-69-A, Made in Thailand. Wrinkles
  21. I'm with oldbuckster on this one. Age and taste changing. The better the system, the better sounding the music. It makes me appreciate and enjoy the music more to hear it reproduced more accurately. Wrinkles
  22. Thanks everyone for sharing your methods. Wrinkles
  23. Big Daddy, The original Sonic Impact Class T amplifer was meant for a computer speaker system or a desktop speaker system for a portable CD player or anything that has a stereo headphone or output jack. You could buy their own inexpensive speakers to go with this inexpensive amp. Their output power is low and therefore attracted the attention of high efficiency speaker owners. I have one and it does pretty well. It can be damaged very easily by too high a power supply voltage to it as well as over driving it. A friend of mine had one that lasted 10 minutes. He overdrove it. But keeping it within its limits has provided much satisfaction for many people. It originally cost about $30-$40. You supplied the battery power or transformer power via a wallwart. People said that a minimum 1 amp wall wart gave it the best sound and dynamics. The original version is not made anymore. An updated version is available, but I am not sure of the price. You can read about it on the following website: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/sonicimpact/t.html There is alot of information on the web about them, especially modifying them to provide a better fequency response.
