  1. PS: In case you did not go to Joe's web site yet, here is a link to his helpful page for Tips, Tricks, and More. https://www.joewoodworker.com/veneering/frequently-asked-questions.htm
  2. As per Bob Crites website for his risers: Dimensions of these risers. 14 inches wide, 12.25 inches deep, 2.5 inches tall at the front, .75 inches tall at the back.
  3. Hey ryan, If you want to cut off the front edges to turn your H1s into a "Designer" look, I would suggest using a router with a Flush Cut bit. https://www.amazon.com/Freud-Bearing-Flush-Shank-42-114/dp/B0000225YC/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=router+bit+trimming&qid=1592479123&sr=8-4 If you look closely at the 1st pic in my post with my cabinets in the raw birch construction stage you will see my panels are all over size in one direction. this is on purpose so that I can then flush cut with router to get a perfect corner. After routing a bit of sanding with an orbital sander and you are ready for the veneer. Same technique with the veneer, cut your veneer pieces slightly oversize and trim them after you iron on the veneer. I trim with an Olfa cutter for the veneer as the router can be a little heavy handed. https://www.amazon.com/OLFA-1072198-Fiberglass-Heavy-Duty-Utility/dp/B000GIO2TG/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=olfa+cutter&qid=1592479980&sr=8-6
  4. I would suggest sanding all the sides down and filling all the bad spots with a good plastic wood, then order 1 gallon of this: https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Better-Bond-Heat-Lock-Veneer-Glue.html and, one of these: https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Veneer-Glue-Roller.html And a 4 x8 sheet of paperback veneer of your choice, birch if that is what you like. https://www.oakwoodveneer.com/birch-veneer-white-flat-cut.html Then pick your poison as for the finish you want. On my Heresy3s, I did not refurbish the cabinets, I built new cabinets from scratch and then veneered with Flatcut Walnut. I used Rubio Monocoat oil plus 2c, Pure (which has no colour tint) to finish mine.
  5. I am using Bob's, CW1526C 15 inch Cast Frame Woofers. There is no complaints by me for bass performance with the FH-1/CW1526C combonation. I "think" bass is a bit better with the Peaveys vs my La Scalas, but the LSs are up in the garage getting a make over so they are not currently available for a side by side comparo.
  6. About 4 years or so ago I got it, first in my left foot and then in both, I feel your pain! I never went to the doctor either, just the internet doctor... Dr. Google. 🤓 I did a lot of what bpphoto and other have suggested, but it still took the better part of a year to go away. The only footwear I could walk in for months was Birkinstock sandles, I eventually got a pair of Birkinstock inserts for my softball turf shoes. The best thing I did was change my daily footwear exclusively to Asics, Nimbus. If you can get away with a running shoe for work, your feet will thank you!
  7. As per "Ballroom Blitz" Ready Steve... "Are you ready Steve? ...Andy? ...Mick? ...Alright fellas, let's gooooo!"
  8. What I did when I did my Jub build was, I bought 2 of Bob Crites's brackets and then built a little platform to go under the bracket. Also built a little trough to hold the bottom of the front of the lens. https://critesspeakers.com/crites-speaker-style-c.html The brackets are $24 for the pair.
  9. PS: I was getting frustrated keeping my eyes peeled for the right amp, so I followed the suggestion of a buddy to put a "Wanted ad" in Canuck Audio Mart. Much to my surprise in the first 2 days I got 3 responses! The one I bought, another that was very much the same and then a 3rd that was not quite as nice but still may have been acceptable. If you can narrow it down the the make and model that you want, you should maybe try the same thing... US Audio Mart in your case. Just be specific what you want as far as condition and what amount of tech work done, you are looking for. Meanwhile lets see that 2nd speaker all spruced up!
  10. For this AU-717, I decided to go the opposite route, as mint as I could find and untouched inside, which is what I found. My intention was to have an unmolested unit that I could have the work done by a known tech so that I could validate exactly what will be done for refurb. Knowing that all issues and potential issues have been addressed will give me piece of mind down the road. Mind you, a quality job like this will put a dent in the wallet... https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/leestereos-restoration-upgrade-of-a-sansui-au-717.641945/
  11. That is a good price on the 930, not that common up here in Canada. I paid $550cnd for my last 930, put about $300 into it for a recap. I think I sold it 2 years or so ago for about the same that I paid, $550cnd... the buyer got a nice recap for no extra. I have had 930s, a 630, and 730... all of these sounded great with my previous Cornwalls and Cornscalas. Never had one of these receivers to try on my newly built Heresy3s but I do have a HK505, integrated from about 1979 which is 2 or 3 years after the 1976 HK730. The 505 is twinpowered, it only has one transformer but has dual secondary windings in the transformer, so not a true twin powered like either the 930 or 730. There is nothing wrong with the way this 505 sounds with the H3s, more than enough power for them, at 60wpc. 3 weeks ago I picked up a very nice condition Sansui AU-717 that I have been using in the 2nd system on the H3s This Sansui seems like a very good pairing for the Heresey! Tons of power at 80wpc and gives a full musical presentation. Keep in mind with any of these vintage machines, they are 40 years old and really should be overhauled. I already have my 717 in queue for a complete refurberation, which will be as much as I paid for the thing.
  12. This is the exact look mine will have after I am done refurbing them, hopefully. Right now mine are pretty rough as you can see. Rather than do a TON of fill on my exterior, I am going to laminate 1/2in Baltic Birch via PL and screws to the top, bottom, and sides. I did a similar approach on my Peavey cabinets, which I then veneered with Walnut. To keep with the Industrial theme, I will round the edges and Duratex them after the 1/2in BB is applied.
  13. That is an incredible transformation Rexxis! This should inspire others to revive their tired classics, well done.
  14. Here is a comparison with HIP and then how I will apply to La Scalas... They are not a perfect match, but I think for the price they will do the trick. .
  15. This is the same guy, Burton, that I just got some replica "Industrial" badges for the set of La Scalas that I am about to refurbish. Great guy to deal with and my Industrial replicas are not a dead match to the OEM ones on my HIPs, but they are very close and nobody accept me would know that they are not the real McCoy.

    What I Got Today!

Thanks BigStewMan! We have always liked this breed as well. For the most part we have had 2 dogs in the house and that has always been one Golden Retriever and one GSD. We lost Max, our last Golden, about 18 months ago and figure it was time to find Odis a buddy.
  17. Several months ago I bought a used Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE to replace my "Upgraded Sonic Frontiers, Line1 preamp. The Line1 was modded by Chris Johnson at Parts Connexion, the original guy at Sonic Frontiers. It was a toss up between the 2 preamps (I was smart enough, this time, to not sell the SF before I was sure I liked the new to me W4S). The point is, Parts Connex offers upgrades to the old legacy SF products, and W4S offers upgrades to their STP-SE (still current) and if I can free up the cash, I will certainly entertain the idea of sending my STE back to W4S to get that work done?
  18. This maybe sacrilege to even post this here, but ... https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=169442.0 If so, sorry. Not mine, so please don't shoot the messenger.

    What I Got Today!

We just got some 4 legged food for our 3 year old German Shepherd, Odis. The "food" my daughter is holding is actually our new addition to the family. Indy, is our 8 week old Rhodesian Ridgeback. I think I heard Odis just say, "Mmmmm, Veal." .
  21. Not sure on price in light of the new IVs, but do LOVE the Rosewood! No affiliation. https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649612089-klipsch-cornwall-iii-70th-anniversary-edition/
  22. For the H3s I just built, I added a brace and the added about .5 inches to the depth of the cabinet to keep the internal volume approximately the same as stock. I also used 1 inch Baltic Birch for the motherboards and backs, the balance was built with 3/4 inch BB. The knuckle rap test says they show no signs of unwanted resonance.

    What I Got Today!

I like the subs very much, they really preform at a higher level that their size would suggest. I primarily use them with the Anthem HT receiver for TV and movies, with either the new H3s and soon to be better looking LSs. As for the topic of my post of a few days ago, the Sansui AU-707. Unfortunately I discovered that it had not been converted to 120volts from 100volts like my seller 🤥 told me. He did agree to take it back with full refund including all the shipping. I was very disappointed because of just how beautiful a condition this 707 was in. It did sound good, even running with 120v.
