  1. Lone Palm is right....maxell not memorex...
  2. I'd be really careful buying an older table. You can get some nice setups for fairly cheap these days. Check out Needledoctor.com.
  3. I probably listen to 70% C.D.'s....30% vinyl. And if it wasn't for the three kids, two cats, and one dog those numbers would probably be reversed. I just get to nervous throwing a record on when my three year old is flying around the house chasing our lab.
  4. To all of you who just received the new Stereophile, check out the beautiful horns on pg 50. Don't know if there worth a crap but they sure do look nice.
  5. tblasing, can't help you out with the two caps, but I have seen and checked them out...they do make sense. Let me know how they work out for you. Thanks
  6. Deang.....I didn't really mean to characerize the reference series as harsh/brittle. What I should have said is compared to my Epic's the sound of my friends RF-3's are far more fatiging/harsh, whatever you want to call it. Also, I realize were running completely different equipment too, so it's not a totally fair comparison. I do agree with your statement about the Heritage line compared to the Reference though.
  7. Mike...Those CF-4's would absolutely sing to you with those tubes. Can't beat the soundstage the Epic's present. Never heard the RF-5's but a friend of mine has RF-3's, and they are great speakers, just a little to forward. Forward is another word for a slightly harsh/brittle sound. GOOD LUCK....
  8. Demented....the biggest "tweak" and it's really not a tweak, that made the biggest improvement in my CF-2's were using the spikes and changing two sets of interconnects. I know everyone has there opinions on cables but let me tell you I couldn't believe the difference/improvements in sound. I think a lot of people foolishly look for different speakers because there just not getting the full potential out of there exsisting speakers. What are you using for power, cables, etc? I've always thought they were great speakers but I never knew just how great until I matched my system around them....later
  9. Great read William! But no mention of the laser disc/dvd scandal?
  10. sgantt.....The Epic's were only made for two years so most of the people on this board have either never seen them or heard them. I think anyone that has had the opportunity to listen to the Epic's would agree with you that they are great speakers. I've been on this board for awhile and I've never seen anything but praise for this series. Are they mentioned as much as the heritage speakers...NO, but anyone that has heard them respects them. Remember they offer a different type sound than most other Klipsch. To some that's a good thing and to others it's not. I happen to love the sound my CF-2's deliver. So just relax and enjoy those great speakers of yours! later
  11. tholly.....Do you have an option to buy either of these speakers or are you just checking them out? First thing is the CF-3's retailed for two-thousand dollars, more than twice that of the 5.5's. I'm not saying they are twice the speaker, but that is something to consider. The Epic line, especially the 2,3,4's with the aluminum diaphragms and massive 2" horns, are "in my opinion," excellent with most types of music. They are great with imaging, very airy/depth, and can play extremely quick and loud with no distortion. Of course all this depends on your other equipment. It's been years since I've heard the larger kg series so it wouldn't be fair to make any judgements on them. I have owned CF-2's for over six years now and can tell you that I absolutely love the sound of them and have had no problems what so ever with them. Good luck....
  12. Fretshop...Welcome aboard!! Nice system..I purchased a Music Hall 5 six months ago and love it but I just don't have the time to get to listen to it enough. I really don't take my chances with three kids running around the living room, so I only get the opportunity to do vinyl when I'm all alone. I'm not going to touch the tube/ss debate so I'll just end by saying welcome again....
  13. Zoot-Horn...Thanks for the response..looks like a great company..
  14. John...you could have given him more that two hours warning? Now tell us what you really think of the LaScala.
  15. Does anyone know what type of fabric Klipsch woven cane grills are made of or who makes them for Klipsch. I'm going to be changing my black grills on my CF-2's for a woven cane type grill and I have a close relative who does this type of thing for a living. I looked through most of the books of fabrics and I found one I really like that is 100% Olefin, type Flax. It's really pretty but I think is much denser than the material Klipsch uses. I'm really not to worried about the sound issue, because I always listen to music with the grills off. Any information would be appreciated...Thanks guys!!!
  16. Mobile... I have read all your posts, and in no way am I questioning your knowledge on any front. I also understand your talking about used SS gear in the comparisons with Adcom. Can you get older "higher end" amplifiers around the price you would pay for new Adcom pieces? SURE you can...but that's where it ends. I know many people who actually like factory warranties. And remember you can also get used Adcom gear for great prices as well. Also, your always welcome to come over and hear just how grainy Stevie Nicks sounds through my Music Hall 5 and Adcom 5500.
  17. I stand behind you Boomer! Comparing a $800.00 dollar Adcom amplifier to other companies pieces that cost two, three, four times is just not relevant.
  18. Well written Allan! Makes me want to go throw a record on right now.
  19. Thanks Jim....considering I wouldn't have had to pay shipping I would have gotten a pretty good deal. Too bad I'm low on funds right now.
  20. Guys...Did anyone see what those 78 Cornwalls in Nebraska went for? I checked the other day and they were at 510.00. I sure hope they went for more than that otherwise I'm going to feel awful sick. Thanks
  21. Myram....very clean. Looks great. I like the way those 1.5's look on those nice wall shelves.
  22. The guy that has them deals mostly with antiques, dolls and etc. so he had nothing to hook them up to. He told me some guy just came in and wanted to get rid of them, said that had been pasted down through the family. I'm sure the guy pretty much gave them away, not really knowing what he had. later...
  23. Guys........just got back from looking at the Corwalls that I can't afford right now. There in very good shape, a coulple nicks and scratches but nothing big. The grill are also in good shape. Overall there in very nice shape. The numbers also match. I took the grills off and the woofers look great. Bad timing for me. Hopefully I'll get lucky again when the timing is right. GOOD LUCK....
  24. Thanks guys....I thought the 5 might be an S, couldn't really tell. I won't be able to buy them, but I'm going to go down and check them out. I will let anyone interested in them know how they look and if the two match. Prana, there in Fremont, so if you have any questions on them I'm going to check them out tomorrow morning. Also, 1978...A GOOD YEAR? Thanks guys
