  1. Something like a blocking cap, or is there something better. If not is how does one go about choosing one, spec, and quality wise.
  2. Anything one can do for protection. thanks again. Nick
  3. Thanks Al, what if I am going to use a active crossover. Nick
  4. So there was all this giberish about 16ohm actually being more efficient, I can't explain why it something to do with spec sheets. But I have a post in technical questions about using some Altec 511bs, I was looking for a driver to use for now, and was looking at selenium drivers I have the option for 8 or 16 ohm and on another forum some one said based off of the spec sheet the 16 ohm would be more efficient. Maybe this would help. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-271 or http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-273 Had something to do with the voltage input being the same thanks duder
  5. So here is what I have and here is what I am working on, Mainly for HT. A pair of 511bs, yeah that's pretty much it. No they will be sitting on top of EV Regency cabs, which seem to have been built slightly different cosmetically but they were a strait across trade with some old kustom columns that didn't work so I figured what the heck plus it helped me get a better deal on the 511s. I was plane on putting some evm15bs, or dl15ws, both evs I would like to stuff some 15wks since they have a 4 ohm voice coil which is preferred for a later down the road k-horn project. But a good efficient 8 ohm I think would work for now, since moneys a little tight and I would like to see this project up and running before football season ends. What I was wondering is whats a good driver for the 511bs that's not to bad in sound and price, Also if I was to use a active crossover do I still need some sort of cap, in there for protection to the horn drivers. If so what is recommended, if not well that answers that question. If I do decide to go active crossovers whats a good one I know the evs are popular around here but any one tried the Berhingers, or is there a brand not to buy. Whats a good amp to put on the top end, I figured a good powerful solid state pro amp would do the trick on the subs. Is there any good low cost passive crossovers, and yes Alks are probably out of the question. I just don't have a few hundred to spend on a pair. Which something like this could happen down the road. Well if I am missing anything let me know, or if none of this makes since I am sure there will be a few of you to brake it down to understand my gibberish. thanks for any help in advance, P.S. I do have a good solid state power amp I could rob from a another system for now, and a HK power amp I could see to be fixed for the top end but I feel something like that at a 100watts might be to much. 6. Kaiser is your turntable hanging from the ceiling, if so how did you go about it. I have just moved my table from the rack to a wall mount to the fact of flimsy floorboards, that every time I walked around I had to tip toe. Now I can jump up and down next to my shelf mounted table and nothing happens. But since I have Fortes that load up the bass in the walls this is no good at higher levels, great at low levels great detail. But some times I would like to crank it up, so I think the next mounting location is from the ceiling. Nice looking room by the way I would love to have a attic room. duder
  7. I need to read through this thread more carefully, but I have a guy locally that has these laying around 15w or 15wk, I don't quite know what the difference is, except that I thought the k was for Klipsch I am probably wrong with that. But what I am getting to is that I will have to pick his brain but I swear he said they have the alnico mags, this is guy also is a ev dealer who likes to buy up all old stock when stuff is discontinued. He also explains that if they have been redone with the flat wound voice coils, not the cheaper ones(any way to prove this). They sale for around 250.00 I am sure he will make a deal with me. Also while I am jumping on this thread is there any problems with using the ev dl15w our are these the ones in the toilet. nick
  8. Rivernuggets glad they are working out for your buddy, how did you hang them from the wall. I am looking for ideas for my Heresies when I use them for surround duty. Jason thats the way to go was it a white van down by the river, I like that receiver. I just have a pair of jvc for the garage maybe someday I can find some hips for the garage.
  9. Quick up date, new shelf, feet, the Ed Saunders stylus still sounds great, bass is nice and tight. I still have little rumble sound at certain spots that I think are do to a bent motor shaft. But man it still puts cds to shame. All upgrades other than stylus are courtious of friends, so I can't go wrong. The next thing is a belt, and if I could find someone locally to stop by and help me properly setup the suspension. I have tweaked it a little made some what tighter, level, etc, etc. I think after doing all of this I need to re align my cart since the left side seems to have more out put. But all in all I love this hobbie with in a hobbie. I mgiht take in another step and get some cork since its not that much and put between the suspension, and make a mat. But we will see I have always enjoyed stuff how they were intended. signing out Duder
  10. Heres mine a few updates to the turntable, since I have purchased this from Ed, I have been adding every free tweak as possible. Since I don't have much money and do have some friends with connections. Latest updates are I found some 1" square tubbing to make the shelf and my roommate works for a glass company so that smoked piece of glass didn't cost me anything, another friend works for a local power company that has a machinest that made the feet. I still have rumbling sound but I think thats from a bent motor shaft cause it only hits when it when the belt gets tighter(i think) I need to add a spell checker, so excuse the spelling Man I have a few albums that I love to listen to especially when I make changes. The Wall is one of them and evertime I listen I hear more and more, almost brings tears to my eyes. Man I have noticed some tighter bass I don't know if that is the new feet or what but wow. Oh yea I almost forgo pics.
  11. yea I am kind of in that category. Hopefully there is more on the way.
  12. Anyone use a Behringer ufo202 with windows 7, also is it me or can you now rip music in a lossless format with windows 7. Nick
  13. Whats the total dimension of the room again. I was thinking of putting some glass french doors in the back side up with some nice curtains maybe shot that idea at her.
  14. I think this is a very good point, nicely said Seti[Y]
  15. I was going to say, they both hit it right on the nose. Sorry James your site had the belts about 15.00 higher, so saving that 15.00 I can buy some record cleaning suplies.[Y]
  16. Were do you seek replacement belts, are some of the ones on the bay worth it. I have read great reviews about the ones from Qaudio, but all of what little money I have is tied up in paypal at the moment. Thanks Duder
  17. amen to that, not that Klipsch were or are the only speakers I have ever owned, but the only speakers I have ever owned that don't need tone or bass control knobs. Mine are all flat or at zero. Thanks for great post.
  18. The tweeter diaphragms I have been getting for my k-77, are old stock so I don't know if that could be a problem. But the first time I replaced them both, I just purchased the speakers and both were out. The second time I think it was a spike in the system, but like I said I don't if it was because they were old stock from 10 years and maybe there is some dry rot or something like that. If I get spunky maybe I will try switch from r-l and see what happens. Maybe it is time for the crites c-125.
  19. Square magnets, and I am pretty sure I matched up the red dot to the red wire, I am just worried that I might have set the diaphragm wrong.
  20. Larry you hit it right on the nose sorry about the goofy explanation of the history. About a year ago I replaced both, here recently the right went out so I replaced it for the second time. If that makes any since. I will wait about a month to see if I notice any difference, if not I think the left one is out of phase, or maybe something is wrong with that one too. I will take me my time a wait and see. Thanks Nick
  21. Just wondering what would happened if somehow my tweeter positive and negative got switched at the crossover or at the speaker when I wired it up. The reason I ask is it seems that the right has brighter highs than the left, I should mention that I had recently replaced the right diaphragm, and had replaced the left about a year ago. Well I replaced both and the right went out again and had to be replaced. I know some say that there is a break in period others say no. Could this be the deal. Thanks Nick
  22. I have one on paper I am sure if you contacted Bob Crites he might have one he can email you. Nick
  23. Would removing the bucking magnet change some of the parameters of the speaker. I guess leaving it on wouldn't hurt anything, thanks for the quick responses. Nick
