  1. BBQ, I cant remember if Fox has any programming in widescreen but the local fox station here in Orlando definitley broadcasts in HD and it is definitely clear as hell. EJ
  2. It looked sweet from the trailer. I hope it comes out on DVD shortly after the theater run, which I'm sure will be long. I just can't hardly stand going to the theater anymore. I just get pissed off when the sound is crap and the picture screen jitters or whatever. The movie theater expirience just isn't what it used to be, at least compared to what we have in our homes. EJ
  3. I agree the stariway thing was so so cheesy. Not only was the concept unrealistic but the actual fall when he hit the ground was bad. For some reason I really liked the movie though. EJ
  4. Saw it in HD via the Dish 6000 reciever. All I can say is that football in HD is awesome. I have been watching all of the games on Fox and ABC in HD W I D E S C R E E N format this season. After you get used to watching in HD you don't even want to watch regular tv anymore. EJ
  5. I bought it yesterday. It is one of the best films I have seen in a while. EJ
  6. Update I received the Marchland box. First I will say that before the box came I set the front sprekers to -10db and adjusted the rest of the speakers accordingly so I could increase the output to the sub. This gave me the gain I was looking for but I still wanted more mid bass. I suspect a big part of my poroblem is location. No biggy as I will get it figured out. Anyway the black box is hooked up and I set the mains back to normal. I also tried setting the mains to small but really didn't notice any benifits. I thought that it really sounbded better set to large. Anyway I can't properly test anything until I get the setup into the larger room. I am hoping to do this this weekend. Oh yea, yesterday I ordered the RSW-15 from acousticsounddesign.com. They are on back order in black but should ship first part of next week. It should fill the void that I am looking for if placement doesn't do it. Anyway the way I see it once I move everything into a room that is 25x30 the extra that it will offer isn't going to hurt. I really want it to tighten things up for music listening. I am anxious to hear both Khorns in corners. Even with just one in a corner I hardley even need a sub for music but we'll see. I am hoping not to buy anymore stuff for a while. I am going to enjoiy what I have. I will end on this note. I love the SVS for movies. Wow they add so much, the sound they put out is invisible as it just blends in so nice with everything. They sound very realistic to me. EJ
  7. Wow, those things are nice. I would like to have those in my living room. I would say they are probably the nicest ones I have ever seen. It would be neat if someone from the BB bought them so we could get updates on how they like their new home. EJ
  8. Q, Looks like the project is coming along nicely. Your doing a sweet job on those cabinets. I will have to swing by so I can check it out. Maybe I can stop by next week sometime. It looks like you have rearranged things a little since I was over last time. Do you think you will have that power conditioner by next week? I would like to hear what kind of difference it will make. It looks like the AK-2 are a decent network judging by those numbers you posted, it's pretty flat. I like the way they sound in my Khorns. Hey do you think you could burn me a copy of that test tone disk you have? EJ
  9. Thnaks for the comments guys. I am really looking for any and all input that you can give. Yeh it really didn't make alot of sense to me either. It is possible that room harmonsic could be bad. I mean I have stuff stacked all over the place, it is a very congested area. The thing I don't totally understand is the impedence thing. Is it that the gain put out from my Yamaha LFE isn't enough for the Samson, or is is something else? They work well for very deep bass but just dont have the kind of punch I would expect. Can someone please explain the impedence matching and what effect it can have. Does it cause certain frequencies that pass through the LFE to be lesser? I am sure that the locations that the SVS are in now are not ideal. Oh yea, all speakers are set to large and bass is on both for front speakers and subs. It also kinda sucks because only one of my Khorns is in a corner right now so I am not getting everything from them. Does anyone know if theoretically I should expect any gain in output(db) by wiring the subs in series and bridging the Samson as opposed to running the Samson in parallel and having one SVS on each channel. I will probably be running them like this when I get the Marchland box to utilize the phasing so I can really dial them in. Any additional comments are welcomed. I will definitely know more once the Marchland box comes in and the HT room is complete so I can move them around to find the best locations for them so I don't have any cancelling problems. Thanks, EJ
  10. If all else fails youve got yourself one hell of a refridgerator magnet. I still use the magnet from an old K-77 on my fridge.LOL EJ
  11. What up all, Well I got the Svs Dual Ultras and the S1000 last friday night. The Marchland black box is on backorder so I am not sure when they will get it to me. I will start out on a positive note. For HT the SVS will rumble the house big time. The low bass waves that they put out is amazing. At 33hz they almost start blurring your vision. They have a very natural sound for deeeep bass. They drop off a little at 25hz but that is as low as my test tones go and I have not tried them with the plug yet. They continue to shake pretty good up to about 55hz and then start to drop off dramatically. I will say that I was impressed with what they add to the HT expirience. I have yet to hear bass like that for home theater. I am however disappointed with them above 55hz. They just don't have any punch. I was expecting them to really hit but they really only rumble. I have hooked them up several different ways. I started with them in parallel mode as recommended. At first I didn't thnk they were getting enough power. So I pre-outed the sub channels into the main pre-ins and hooked up the ultras to the RX-V1. The 110wpc Yamaha pushed em' harder than the 500wpc Samson, imagine that. Anyway I am back to running them off the Samson in bridged mode(1000 watts into 1 channel). I wired the Ultras in series to get them to the 8ohms that samson required. I think this helped a little. Anyway I am not satisfied with my bass yet. I am starting to think I may have to get the RSW-15 to fill in the void and get some punch for music. I will wait until I get them into the almost finished HT room where I can find better placement for them. Now they are on each side of one Khorn in the corner. I have speakers on top of speakers in my living room so I don't really have alot of options for placement. I am thinking once the HT room is done I will start by putting one on top of each Khorn in the corners and see how that sounds. I will tuck them all the way back into the corner which should help tighten em' up some. I am hoping to have the HT room complete by the end of next week. Anyway I have been in close contact with Tom from SVS and we are working through my questions and concerns. EJ
  12. Tbrenn, I hope I didn't offend with my comments about immigrants. My great-grandparents on both sides were immigrants. My dad grandparents immigrated from Norway and Mom's were German. Both families were farmers. EJ
  13. Thanks Q, I may end up doing that. EJ
  14. Kain, It seems like the SVS website said that the Ultra is equivalent to two of the CS-plus's. I agree with ears, having a separate amp gives you alot more flexibility too. If you want to upgrade amp then you have a pare amo to do something with. If you want to add another passive sub it is easy to do if you get the ultra and the 1000. In a while you may want to make it a dual ultra system. Anyway that woofer in the ultra is bad a$$. I should be getting my duals today. EJ
  15. Prodj, I'm glad to hear your dad is trying to instill a work ethic in you. That will be your biggest asset as enter into the real world. As for the Land of Opporunity thing I will say success is not measured by the size of your pocketbook and when you have nothing to lose and everything to gain trying something different to earn money seems alot more appealing. Many Americans are content working for $10-$20/hr for some jerk because at least they know the bills will be paid each month and there will be food on the table. These guys work just as hard as the rich entrepeneur or buisness owner. It all comes down to what are you willing to risk to increase your current lifestyle. If your living in a box or came from some third world country you'd be willing to risk just about everything. Keeping in mind that it is not the norm to succeed on your first business venture. Many go bankrupt several times before they make it, that is not a risk alot of Americans are willing to take. That's why you need to do it when your young and do not have a family to worry about. Now consider this. We are told that if we work hard and go to college we can make our dreams come true. Well that depends on your dreams. I would be willing to bet that there are college graduates working at Mcdonalds ar Bk. Nowadays even a college degree doesn't ensure anything. Once you get done with college and you can't get a job in your feild you still have to pay off those student loans, so your strapped. Now your working at a just above minimum wage job to make those payments. You can not afford to start a business and make next to nothing or take a loss until things take off. It the viscious cycle of our economy. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the middle class are always stuck in a rut that they can not seem to get out of and the immigrants love the sh!t out of our country. Hell if they run up a huge amount of debt here they can just go back home, but why would they want to do that when they can continue to get small business loans and government funding from the Americans hard earned tax money. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be predjudice but that is really how it works. It is easier for an immigrant to start a business than it is for an American, that is a fact. EJ
  16. Do not try to splice them. You will screw up the shielding in the cables and could find unwanted interference in your signal if you splice in an extra section. This is not advisable. Go to rat shack and get couplers and add an extra short cable to the ends or just get length you need. EJ
  17. Justin, Dish Net currently has HDHBO-E, HDSHO-E, HDDiscovery, and one HD Pay Per Veiw. You need two satelites and a Dish 6000 receiver. If you don't have tan HD tuner in your TV you can upgrade the 6000 with a tuner cartridge for an extra $150. Their is no extra cost to get HBO and SHO in HD, you just must subscribe to normal hbo and showtime packages. I believe it cost 5 bucks a month for hd discovery and I think you need some kind of special converter. Pay per veiws are what they are. As far as digital cable vs dish. Both should be of equal quality as they are passing the same digital signal to you. As far as I know only Hbo and SHowtime are broadcasting HD channels. Cable may give you more HD pay per views, don't know. Best HD really though is what you can get over the air. The picture quality of local channels is outstanding. In orlando all of the local channels broadcast in HD. I think I get like 10 or 11 channels in HD. The network channels all have dual HD chjannels. One has the normal channel and the other will have local radar, or current news banner, one has like 4 picture in pictures with radar, traffic cam, regular programming and then a banner with up to the date news. Its pretty cool. EJ
  18. guys, I'm not looking for anything to set up my tv picture with. You don't need those things, just a little patience and a good source. As I said NBC network feed has very good color and sharpness for setup. I didn't like the picture setup I got from the S&V disc, you need to add a little more hue and contrast to the picture. I like the blacks to be jet black and the colors to be vibrant. The disk made the blacks greyish and colors were a bit dull. It is possible to get great color and extreme black level and not have any bleedover. Anyway I ended going back and re-adjusting it. The disc is good if you want to set sharpness but if you can handle setting the color without the disc you can get the sharpness right. When I checked mine it was on. Anyway,I am looking for a disc in 5.1 that has all of the frequency test tones for audio. Something that spans the frequency range from high to low and that can be set to emit from any one of the 5.1 speakers. Does this disc exist? EJ
  19. I want to get a test dvd with the test tones. Which one has this and where can I get it. I picked up the Sound and Vision test dvd, IMO it's worthless. Use NBC to set your color on your TV, they have the best picture. EJ
  20. Prodj, You can't argue with teens. I knew it all once too. The older you get, the less you know, otherwise your destined to be a Jack A$$ your whole life. OK Prodj, argue away, it's part of your right of passage into adulthood, but do one thing even though you don't listen at least hear what the others are saying. Someday you will look back on this and laugh about it. We have all been there. You will say to yourself, they were right. I'm sure you have the same arguements with your dad as he is probably a very wise man to be where he is. But you probably know more than him most of the time, except when you need his help. Silence is golden and wisdom is gained not taught. Prodj, I like you and I think everyone else does too. Now you can tell us until your blue in the face that you are not spoiled, but you will never convince us of it, that does not make you any less of a person to me. You did not choose your upbringing, but I bet you would not trade with any of your peers. I can remember being your age and wishing I could have the stuff some of my friends had. I got my first stero when I was 12. I paid for it with money from my paper route and I went to the local golf course every weekend and collected pop cans and sold golf balls. At 14 you have more than most of us have now and we work full time jobs, raise families, and yes we went to school, graduated from college, did everything we thought we were suppose to do to be successful in life. Unfortuantely it doesn't always work out that way for all of us, and I think were ok with that. Money does not equal happiness and being wrong or listening to others advice does not make you ignorant. Now you can either tell me I don't have a clue or you can say nothing, but at the end of the day you are still able to go home to your big house and nice stereo and watch your big screen in your bedroom. You are a very lucky young person with a very bright future ahead of you. When I was 14 I washed dishes at a japanese steakhouse for cash, had a paper route, and detasseled corn in the summers for cash, I never had an allowance and there was no such thing as time out when I misbehaved. I started working fulltime during summer vacations when I turned 16. I worked in a can factory and at a car dealership washing cars until I graduated from high school. How do you get your money? So you've heard it all before right? Well whats your story? You don't have one, you're 14. So listen to us, don't argue, and when you have a story then you can enlighten us, until then let us share our wisdom and you can share your knowledge about all of the stuff you know about. You know alot of facts, but the fact is you still have alot to learn about life. It's nothing to be ashamed of it's expected at your age. You're a good kid, so don't be a jack a$$. EJ
  21. Halo is a must have. Just got Splinter Cell the other day but have only played about 45 minutes but from what I hear it is suppose to be better than Halo. It's pretty damn cool. Ghost Recon is pretty sweet too. EJ
  22. SOSDY Same ole sh#t, different year. Wake up (5am), go to work, come home(7pm), eat dinner, sleep, and do it all over again next day. EJ
  23. I got the wife a set of Promedia 4.1. I ordered from the Ugly Hi-Fi blowout from this site. What a bargin at $150. Those things really rock and have great bass. Needless to say she totally loves them and cranks them every chance she gets. I also got her a digital camera, nothing special but will work good for posting pics of the new HT room, Hehehe. She took out all the stops for my present. It's not Hifi related but she got me a Tag Heuer watch that I had been wanting for some time now. Tblasting, I got a blow gun too. Those things are fun. You can stick the little tiki darts(3" long) about half way into a peice of 1/2" sheetrock(whoops). EJ
