OB How are you splitting off the signal from the 299-D for the sub????

I have read good things about the A50T.....heck hard to beat any simple EL34 amp! Hey OB tubes are another story altogether........some classic Scott, dynaco gear will beat the pants off alot of the esoteric $20000 piles of gold plated ego out there.....as for me I'm getting my Klipschorns this weekend!!!! yeah baby and then I start looking hot and heavy for an original Sansui Au-111 6L6gc integrated...if not I'll "settle"[] for some VRDs...

It really is amazing that you can find very good inexpensive equipment if you have the right speakers!!! It kills me that most folks can't figure out that the speakers are over 50% of the equation. Some Speakers require that you drive them with 1000 plus watts and to what end??? spending MO money Mo money!

Just thought I'd right my own little review based on my own experience. I was Beating myself up because I listed all my mcintosh SS gear for sale and I have a buyer coming over tonight.......Soooo I pulled all my gear out and hooked it all up in the main listening room So I could A/B all the gear... I was listening through Heresy II's with new tweeters , BC recaps and then Cornwall I's BC recaps For the gear Mcintosh : Mc 2505 , MX 112 fully serviced at Mcintosh a couple of years ago, MCD 7007 Sansui: Au 11000 just serviced, Au7900 serviced By Bristol 1 year ago, Au 7900 never serviced...Cheapo sony cd..... And For Phono's Technics Sl1210. Now I had had the Sansui gear hooked up for awhile and I was hesitant about hooking up the mac......turned on the mac with a very good Marcus Miller cd....boy was I relieved ....There was a definite dark veil over the mids and the bass was not responsive and crisp. I went back and forth several times changing sources and speakers and the results were that even the unserviced Sansui AU 7900 was more musical and transparent. The Au 11000 just kicked butt ...Now i know it has double the headroom but we are talking and integrated that sells for about 1/3 of the mac gear I have. The Mcintosh are pretty pieces, and I know they don't come close to some of the more modern megabucks units, but dollor for dollar the pre 1980 Sansui gear is highly underrated... and if you should happen to come across any at garage sales etc, try one out...they may surprise you.

I have always wanted a 124 but thats a crazy price!!! Totally agree with A.S. plenty of people who specialize in restoring and making much better than new!!! OT I hate when you guy's change avatars...I feel like I just start to know folks and then I'm thrown into panic mode going "who is that"!! [][][]

The best advice I can give you...after many years of swapping gear...Id to try before you buy. Let your ears tell you what sounds best...I know its hard to find he gear to sample...but as I have found its worth a couple hour drive to hear someones setup to see if it's your thing........ What I think sounds "warm" may sound "muddy" to you.... So sample a few different setups and try to identify what sounds good to your ears...thats more important than a forum full of half crazed, loony bin escapees , telling you what should sound good.(I was not making reference to anybody on this forum....LOLOL) That being said, you must go out and buy La scala's with ALK networks, BBX, VRD's, and a thorens 124 !!!!!

the unit I referred to was a 15 amp model, (they sell higher amperage units), so as long as you don't draw over 15 amps total you are ok....there is a circuit breaker in the unit that will trip if you draw more than 15. So if you are running pumps and heaters lights..I don't think your drawing heavy amps, 2 units should do just fine....they have a cheeper model sans led voltmeter ...you could get one with/ one without....nice to see what the power company is really sending you.

Try a furman M8DX....its a rack mount surge/power conditioner....has 8 inputs in the back 3 for wallwarts and one in the front and has an led voltage readout on the front. you can stack two of them and even get a cheep rackbox to keep everything tidy a little pricy but looks and works nice with out all the piles of wires.

Just MY Opionion ( thats not worth to much).......I have some very nice Crites recapped Cornwall I's and I recently picked up a used and not that abused Sansui AU 7900 circa 1976 ish that is rocking my world!!!! Craigslist find $225 ...I also have a Au11000 that is unbelievable !!!!!!! something about the cornwalls and a good quaility SS (there's plenty of nice tube setups also) that really does it for me!!!!

Lots and lots of variables.......Known factor, you are happy with the Cornwalls C220 sounds good with other amps?.....it's a very nice pre. The 275 is known to be the darkest of the mac tube amps and whats its state of repair???...if original 30+ years old and What tubes???? again , a lot of variables. the Mc30, MC 225, and MC 240 are reported sweeter sounding, if I were to go Mac tube it would be MC30 monos. Would I give up on the 275??? not right away I would see if I could try some different tubes or borrow a different pre from the dealer to see if it makes a difference. I think you need to be methodical and eliminate one variable at a time until you come up with the synergy you like.
